    All genders, regardless of how defined (biologically, culturally, psychologically, et al.) should have equal rights. I don't mean this in the distractingly dismissive "All lives matter" way, but in an earnest, honest everyone matters way.

    I was 2 English credits short of graduation & workerd with a professor who was literally packing for vacation while we spoke. I had 3 days to put together something she felt worthy of 2 credits.
    I wrote a 14 page paper on feminism in Frankenstein & the influence of Mary Wollstonecraft on Mary Shelley. It still astonishes me that such a deeply complicated concept was created by a teenage girl in direct response to a challenge by men in such a brief period. I don’t think just any talented writer could have developed the layers Shelley did. Both her parents had tremendous influence on her.
    Much has been written about Wollstonecraft’s influence on Shelley but I’d love to have seen Wollstonecraft’s response to Frankenstein.

    I love the sections on intersectionality and how a lot of feminist movements have historically left entire groups of women out of their feminism, because this really isn’t talked about enough. I especially appreciate the opening example of a trans woman too, particularly given the current political climate. One day, feminism by default will include all women. I know I will fight for that day.

    Feminism helps men too by helping us see how we also suffer under patriarchy and how it impacts the ways we are allowed to feel, express, and operate in the world. Bell Hooks (who was also mentioned in the video), has done some great work in this area.

      Toxic power structures are everywhere. Seeing some from a position of privilege and some from a position of problems helps us understand other things.
      Seeing how Romani people were treated in Bulgaria helped me understand racism in the US, for example.

    • @cavemann_
      @cavemann_ 7 часов назад +3

      Is it the patriarchy or is it that the very ambitious exploit those that they think they can use? I honestly feel like this argument is missing the true source of the issue, because even when you get rid of the patriarchy you're not going to change how wealth is distributed amongst people, or how political and social power is used by people to benefit only themselves and oppress those beneath them.

    • @benmac2112

      It can help men too, but it is not an adequate replacement for [good] men's rights advocacy. Not every societal problem men face are the result of or directly related to "patriarchy".

    Nice series!
    For the next episode, the slogan surprised me cuz i have always said and done the other way around : "think globally, act locally". Which in my opinion is a way of . saying " think broadly and considering as much nuances and possible, and then implemented them by example in your everyday and local life. "Thinking locally and act globally", since to me a bit colonialism, like kins od "think in your local narrow world, and act imposing it to the rest of the global world", So I'm very curious and look very much forward for the next episode. 😊❤

    If we were to assign monetary value to the labor female family members perform in the household, who would bear the cost? Would male family members be the ones obligated to pay? Does this mean that familial relationships are, in essence, capitalist relationships? Is my wife my worker? Am I her boss? What exactly is being said by calculating labor value of a woman's household work in terms of wages?

    I would like to see a longer version of this as well.
    The subject becomes so much more complex when we begin to realize that our entire economy and society is structured around the idea of the man getting paid and the women working at home for free. It will continue to funnel all the money and power to men until we can change our society, but it is difficult to know how to make things better. Maybe more funding for college should be available to women only, to help balance everything out.

  • @samsturdi
    @samsturdi 6 часов назад +1

    4:56 I don’t think anyone was ever saying that work didn’t have value. House work has to get done and it will never be paid regardless of who does it. Caveat is women have not had control of their finances until very recently and men were “supposed” to take care of the woman’s needs and wants.

    We say just "Basketball" rather than "Men's Basketball", because it's far more popular. The difference is huge, and Women's Basketball is not even close. It's the same with other sports where the men's category is overwhelmingly more popular. Nothing to do with sexism, it's just numbers. There are sports where this is not the case (for example, swimming).

    • @Billionth_Kevin
      @Billionth_Kevin 9 часов назад +24

      Saying "it's just numbers" ignores the historical content women weren't allowed to play when the game was named, or the inherent sexism in WHY its more popular

      I think that maybe we are supposed to also examine why it is that the numbers are such. Why is it that there is a larger audience for Men’s sports? Do we perhaps have some internalized misogyny that sways the masses so?

    • @specialnewb9821
      @specialnewb9821 9 часов назад

      @TheWaffleDad sometimes yes. Sometimes no. Sports that emphasize power over technique are probably going to naturally draw more interest when its males.
      Honestly I think calling it internalized mysogyny is just needlessly provoking people. Humans gravitate to familiarity. It's just what people are used to because people like what they are used to. Not giving different stuff a chance is not a moral marker. You like what you like for whatever reason but that doesn't mean it's not valid to have a preference.
