Yes, and it means two things : Or it is because newer are (at least) not better, to be polite OR Nike deliberately WANT some athletes run in older shoes to continue de « cult » of these shoes to retain a value on the market (StockX etc.) don’t forget that Nike in last December has released a batch of older models (VF2/AF1) on their website. It can be perhaps because of the demand of people/athletes, who knows. But for sure Nike like to make their products retain value even after lot of years, it’s part of their business plan.
About a week ago Hirabayashi made a 2:06 debut in the Osaka marathon. He became the 7th fastest Japanese runner in his first race. People were more surprised about his shoe choice which was Takumi Sen 9. I think Adidas has the best variety of racing shoes across all brands.
If you follow Japanese running the fact he did that in Takumi Sens is not a surprise. In fact the current Takumi Sen is still considered “high stack” in Japan for those who used to run and train in the classic Takumi Sens. It was a great performance though. I also agree… Adidas seems to be on a roll right now with product.

To emphasize your third szenario. The dev15 appears to have (visually) a greater heel to toe drop. This could help with transition in case of achilles issues which are common in masters runners. Of course this is highly speculative.
Interesting. EK is definitely entering masters territory… if not already there. Though I don’t expect him to keep racing once he retires from the world majors.
Maybe Nike should just release the VF1/AF1 as Kipchoge's signature model. Ive never tried either, but the most common comment on any new nike release is ...not as good as version 1.
Nike definitely needs to go that direction to make it a valid racer. The protos I’ve seen are definitely carbon… but unsure if it’s full length, 3/4 or a forefoot plate/shank like the Ultrafly.
What did you race in? I saw ALOT of the pack in Asics… it was overwhelming. But I do expect that in Japan. It’s similar here in Taiwan with local runners too.

The new development shoe could be testing how to drop weight and what is feasible/not for the main launch as kind of a proof of concept

The Vaporfly Elites were VERY rare and expensive back in the day. These will be no different. Likely closer to the Evo 1 price, lottery based to buy and very rare. Nike wanted the buzz of the Evo 1 for sure. In an Olympic year… all spring races are tuneup races for the Olympic marathon… for those athletes who have that as their goal.

Weight is the next frontier in super shoes. Things are going to get crazy as brands make things as light as possible. The Chinese brands are already showing the future in many way with their ultra light weight racers.
Very tempting to buy the Sakura colourway AP3 because it is much cheaper to buy in Tokyo and the lovely colour. But I don’t have any marathon to run after Boston. So I will refrain from buying before leaving Tokyo 😅

Nike have struggled to get the Alphafly 3 out to the mass market, with the next release due on March 8th. If they release a shoe with higher performance very soon after that, they risk having a lot of disgruntled customers. In addition there is no guarantee Eliud will even be in the Olympic Marathon, as the Kenyan field has a lot of depth. Perhaps the Eliud version is just that, a tribute shoe, to be released at a time later in the year whenever peak Eliud fever happens, perhaps after the Olympics...
Ya… Nike needs a new supply chain or marketing playbook. It’s not 2017 where they can dictate market terms in running. The AF3 launch has been a complete nightmare and unchanged from the VF4% launch way back when production for ZoomX was new and there was a reason for scarcity. I am really curious what they do here…
Did you get the chance to see if more women wore the Edge Paris and more men with the Sky Paris? I think it's not only cadance vs stride BUT how much energy you create. For me for a VO2 max runs I get the best matrix in the Metaspeed Sky Plus or Adidas Pro 3 but if I take the Metaspeed Sky Plus for a long run I get foot fatigue. Edge plus works for slower runs well.
I didn’t see many that clearly… the photos I found where all the mass start and mixed. I think you are on to something. The Sky simply does not work for me. I’m glad I experimented with it and did lengthen my stride… but I am very much a cadence runner… AND I prefer the stability of a Vaporfly like plate closer to the ground.
@@i.p2088 Stabilirybod the low plate to the ground vs the plate directly under the foot. Not the foam. I wouldn’t call the VF stable… but I would call the plate configuration stable. There is a difference. It’s why I’m going to pick up an Edge Paris this time around… I think Asics may have resolved my problem with the shoe with FFTurbo+.
Remember… the shoes need to be sold. Dev15 looks like it has a REAL tongue, not a bootie style upper. If so… that’s what I have been waiting for (I dislike bootie style uppers).
In my mind, in a world of carbon-plated and super-critical foamed super shoes (named after supercars), the Adidas Adizero Adios Pro Evo 1 is what I would call one of the first true hyper shoes in the same vein as hypercars.
I’d go one step beyond that. The Prime X is a hyper car… flashy, loud, garish, but trash for racing… the Evo 1 is a F1 car, fast, performance first, stripped down, cutting edge for racing. Adidas did say that they set out to with F1 in mind for the Evo 1.
I didn’t see many in the photos. That doesn’t mean they weren’t there. Mizuno is very popular here in Asia… but most of the Mizuno shoes people run in are not the high profile ones shown in the west.
Hi I have a question about rotations. I competitively race everything from the mile to half marathon (I have ran a marathon). My goal weekly mileage is 80 miles (though weekly mileage isn't too important). I have tested out racing shoes and I love the Alphafly. I use the dragonflies for trackwork. My slow long-run shoe is the Gel-Nimbus 25. I want another pair of shoes for long tempos/fartleks and another for daily runs (I don't really like the pegs though). How can I build off my rotation?
Based on what you currently are running in and your preferences from this post I’d say the Asics Superblast is the best option for you. Take a look at my “Boston 12 vs Asics Superblast” video as to why.

The good thing about the Olympic marathon is it is still a runner’s race and not just a shoe brand competition… but still, all the top brands want Olympic medals for PR.

Haha. Nike would need to massively change. They don’t rerelease old models (in running) and only retro 20+ year old shoes.
Got a little tip, the streak fly 2 was experiementing with either a shank/ or full carbon, higher stack but more of a takumi sen wanna be!

Dev 15 has a heel lock option. So probably not done for the Elite because they tailor make the upper for them.

Unlikely. If anyone is used to Alphaflys, it would be Eliud. He had a bad day, it happens to us all. That is racing.
Vaporfly V3 seems to be a downgrade..
That does seem to be a bit of a consensus with many elites.
