I used to work in IT support, now software and.. it's true. 99% problems get solved by restarting the device. Just a couple days back I got into my girlfriend's car and her dashboard lights were off for some reason + high beams were only working while pressing them. We stopped at a railway intersection, asked her to turn it off/on and it worked again. :D

Here in Brazil the Chinese brands weren't successful at first, JAC had a limited success and Cherry bombed (I always wanted to do that joke), but a Brazilian company buoyed halft the shares of Cherry and made the CAOA Cherry, which is somehow a success, Brazilians are very proud people, we like things taylored our way, hence the VW here is different from the German one, I guess the Chinese brands learned from us that national indentification is important to the brand, hence Moskovitz instead of JAC.

@@alexandermieke8795 Autolatina is another animal, it was a joint venture between Ford Brazil and VW Brazil, it worked well untill Ford started to work on the second generation Gol with was the VW BR flagship, that wasn't acceptable, the Autolatina cars were 80's models renewed with share components, not newer models between the brands, that upset both VW Ger and Ford US, which prompted the VW Ger and Ford US to cut the R&D of both before they become a competitor by itself, after that both Ford Br and VW Br began to felt considerably, the only reason why they reach the 2010's was the competition wasn't as good, untill GM copied the Gol regardless and renewed, since at least 2012 the GM which was also failing is the number 1 seller here because of that project, the newer model is made in cooperation with GM Ch, now Ford os gone for good here and VW Br only resists because the government maintains it, if it was for VW Ger they would be long gone too, the day VW Ger take the VW Br R&D completely they will definately be gone, Usies and Geries aren't that different from each other, their arrogance is their downfall, Autolatina was a smart move, way before VW Ger become a bigger conglomerate, but the Germans and the Usians never accepted that the Latin Americans were faster than they were, similar thing happened to Renault and Nissan, now the Chinese will take everything, whou would've guess it?

I visited this Renault factory long ago when they started Renault 19 production. There were a few posts fixing bumpers to ready cars imported from Turkey....Hence, they did a good job launching this JAC production so quickly. Hope to see more models soon. And great video as usual, really enjoyed!

We both live in Russia and know that buying an electric car here is a futile move. The only thing I encounter less than electric car chargers are foreigners. We have no infrastructure. Gas is €0.50/liter vs €2.00/liter in the EU. Plus, you know the true parking situation that most ordinary Russians face in the муравейники. I'm not a pessimistic person - but I don't ever see electric cars becoming common in Russia during my lifetime. Great piece tho! Really nice to see you cover the intriguing Moskvich.
Agreed, in Europe, as you stated petrol/diesel are right around 2 euros, so it does make some sense going electric as you will notice savings after a couple or half a dozen years. In Russia it makes no sense since fuel is quarter of the price in EU, you would have to drive that electric vehicle for over a decade for it to pay off. Not to mention batteries probably would not like Russian winter.
We? There are over 300 charging points for cars in Moscow, including almost 100 of 50 kW+ chargers of Energy of Moscow network alone. There are also many other networks, like Mosenergo, Yandex, Plankt E and so on. And hundreds of private charging points. In total in Moscow region there are almost 1000 charging points. Needless to say about electric buses. Moscow is by far most ahead of rest of any other city in the world outside China, with almost 1.5 thousand electric buses, which is double of London.
This is JAC JS4 sold under localized brand. Moskvich 6 is A5 Plus. What's wrong about it? What about Dacia cars sold under Renault and Nissan brands on markets with no Dacia presence? There were Renault Sandero and Renault Duster, yet no questions. And there are tones and tones of examples, even Samsung cars.

Might be time to get your new car if you really want. Why ? The rubel has been loosing its value in the past 12 months by 56% against the chinese juan which means the prices will increase 5% per month and it does not look better even chinese production is also decreasing. The only workaround which we observe here are russians visiting germany to buy cars for import, there are a lot and always buying 1 car only, same for the truck guys that have purchased all the old 4x4 trucks and all those of use for military supplies, but that market has been closed and there are now restrictions in place . Only car for russians with the permission to enter EU can buy one car up to 50.000€ of value. And lot of them appear to buy even though it is a mystery how they are able to pay considering no one accepts rubel or Dollar , just euro. So might be time to prepare a decision cause chinese cars will become a lot more expensive and the used car market here is also still strong due to order backlog from the pandemic. Skoda and VW ICE cars sell still very well.
Hi, me again, from Montreal, Canada. The EV hype here is real because after government subsidies, their price is the same as a gas car, and electricity here is cheap. Plus, charging stations are everywhere. I love my Tesla 3!

This is why the sales representative mentioned it as a potential second family car. In my residential complex, we already have a dedicated charging facility, and I've noticed a growing number of charging stations across the city, making charging increasingly convenient. However, I personally lean towards a more robust electric vehicle with faster charging capabilities.
100% my bmw only has 140 mile range but it’s never been an issue; almost all my journeys in reality are less than this and with 90k miles on the clock it’s only ever had basic services to get that far. Still drives like it rolled out the show room! Very long trips I’ve started to consider the train now where it makes sense to otherwise yes a long journey needs a lot more planning than ICE but realistically that happens no more than twice a year.
yeah, they would be good for singles, students and retired people. but they are more expensive than combustion engines ones which beats that purpose unfortunately. at least in this case, i am pretty sure there are some cheaper minicars. but still this price policy makes no sense. it is just abusing limitations of production of such cars at this moment. with exception of countries where is gasoline quite expensive and or where they have some tax and other bonuses for electric cars owners (which is mainly result of producers and their investors lobbying)...

infrastructure is king when it comes to EV. But convenience is important too. Once moving to one pedal driving there’s no coming back, or at least that’s what my wife said after having her tesla m3 for a month. The quiet power the relaxed feeling while driving, those are the EV advantages. Also, after one year of having it we realized what a hassle gas stations are. For one year ownership we have used public charging stations about 8 times and for a long voiage it turned out that stopping every 200 miles or so for 30min is actually an advantage. Another thing I realized is with one pedal driving breaks will last life time. All in all i am not buying another ICE and not because the environment.

Loved watching this new video! China has done something similar in the UK buying an old car brand MG and now sells solely electric cars under this brand (which are very popular and well received!) I have a BMW i3 REX - charge it off of solar for free half the year and £2 overnight charge at home during the winter. It’s a game changer! I think those Chinese cars will sell well. It’s also nice to see a classic Russian brand resurrected.
@@RealReporter thanks Constantine but I explained it poorly - as it’s the summer it’s monthly cost at the moment is actually zero! The solar at home does all the work! In the winter yes £60 if I am driving a lot every day but realistically 1/4 if that. This replaced a diesel Land Rover that with huge fuel prices was costing me £150-200 per month! As a Russian in Russia you’re fortunate to not have to overpay for your fossil fuels unlike some of us 😅 Thank you for your reply!

Audi, Volkswagen and Skoda are coming back to Russia Volkswagen Group have announced their return to Russia under a new name: AGR Automotive Group. They made the announcement Wednesday on their Russian social media accounts, which have not seen a post since February 23, 2022. The company said that its dealers will continue to operate in the same mode as before, and also announced a lot of "interesting events", urging the audience to keep an eye out for further announcements.

Yeah, they have no choice but to suspend their operations on Russian market. But the influx of Chinese cars as they're trying to solidify their grip into Russia through discounts makes European brands struggle an uphill battle. Even if they try to reach the Russian car market, I wonder what would be the reaction of the EU.
Great video! Important is to keep factory going and safe workplaces. With time more and more localization will be done, that's a natural process. West has just shown to the world how unreliable it is and it's not anymore trustworthy. That's why the rest of the world is now watching China and Russia. China provides the industrial power and Russia provides the nuclear defense to all partners.
My guess electric cars won't be popular in Russia as gas prices are not high and electric cars are expensive. Also Russia is a a massive country and needs huge investment in charging infrastructure otherwise the cars will be limited to travel in the cities.

Tesla is designed for tropical countries such as Germany and the USA. Where I live in Russia, winter lasts 8 months, and the temperature from December to January does not rise above minus 30 °C / 86F for 4 weeks. In the remaining winter months until April, the heat is minus 20°C/68F. And don't forget about the snow, which can fall knee-deep in a day, and so on for several days in a row.

Only southern Russia is a good place to raise EV. St. Petersburg, Moscow, Ekaterinburg and all other northern cities aren't well places for batteries and chargers. They are used to tank gas, propane and other liquid fuels.
Nice video as always. I think China is ahead of any other western country in terms of EVs because of the government's focus on green technology. But European and Japanese cars are ahead of Chinese cars on ICE segment. But for a country as large as Russia, electric vehicles are not a good option just because of the lack of infrastructural development in charging stations(I don't know much about the charging infrastructure in Russia) which is completely different in China or even Europe.

Until an EV can recharge as quickly as filling a fuel tank, be reliable in Freezing conditions, and not burst into flames spontaneously they have a long way to go. In US the electric grid can hardly support it's self now without have the tremendous amount of extra capacity for EV. Also just like with smart meters and Digital currencies they can shut down anyone at anytime.

The Russian side Kamaz chose a weaker out of the top 10 Chinese automakers as partner to keep controlling interest while stronger Chinese brands like Chery would prefer much larger ownership in local manufacturing joint ventures. Now the Europeans and the Japanese have vacated quality Soviet-time autoplants for the Chinese to partner up with, better cars are being made or planned as we speak. Russia levies 50% import tax, shipping and registration cost another 20%, unfortunately the big price gap between two countries for the same car can't be arbitraged away. Love the red pioneer tie on the pretty sales lady. The translation for what the factory rep said after being asked if they were unhappy about the abandonment should read like "it is what it is. It appears that in the long run France has done Russia a great service. In America the Chrysler, and General Motors corporations have received multiple bailouts, and handouts, as well as buyouts and down sizing. Now being forced to produce largely unwanted, Impractical and unpopular electric vehicles the industry is struggling.
All they're doing is helping Russia slowly make it self stronger through becoming more self reliant. They're like a group of bullies who pick on a kid by making him carry their books and stealing his bike so he has to walk to school. He gets stronger every die while they stagnate
I do hope the Russian auto industry can get the kickstart it needs to produce vehicles entirely on its own. Given the circumstances, it seems they're doing the best they can. As far as electric vehicles go, it seems the concerns surrounding them are pretty universal. In America, I would not own one much for the same reasons you expressed here. I don't believe the technology is proven or efficient enough to be a viable replacement for gasoline or diesel vehicles. Though, for some they may be practical to have as a secondary vehicle, I personally would have no need for one. Thank you for these insights! I had my first EV experience a few days ago, very smooth, erily quiet, the moment you push the pedal, the car flies like a rocket without making a sound, to me, its a very different experience.
EVs still take forever to charge up and you frequently need to stop more often to charge which makes long trips take even longer, even in short city trips, for it to take 8 to 12 hours to fully charge just to get somewhere in a short distance is ridiculous.
I privately onwn 3 italian made cars from year 1997, 2003 and 2007. I absolutely love them and I would never even think about to change (also not partly) to these overpriced EV trash!!!
A very professionally produced film as always. My opinion on electric cars is that they're a scam and a joke. Over in the west they are already failing badly. They can't sell them because they are too expensive and resale values are terrible. They con you on distance they can actually travel before you have to recharge the car and if you are in the middle of nowhere, where do you charge? They are also not environmentally friendly like people think they are and the batteries can't be recycled and new batteries are like a cost of a new gas powered car. I could go on but you get the picture. But good for Russia over coming and adapting to foolish western sanctions.

Love it. (And great, direct into "Meet the new..." *thwump* sound-effect - brought me right into the story). I watched your Q and A vid from a while back about how you maintain your English pronunciation/accent, so I thought you might want to know that I think you say "ummm" and "uhhh" quite a lot in unscripted spots. Its noticeable to me, but I can't speak for others. I don't know if you do this in Russian, or because you are focusing on perfect pronunciation, or what. But you're a pro so I thought you'd want to be aware. I'm a native English speaker, but had to learn two other languages. I must say that I've noticed that you're idiom skill is as top-notch as your accent skill! Keep up the good work!

The Tesla is only the second best seller (UK) because Elon is giving Businesses and international companies give away deals. The EV private sector is dying. But the western Globalists want 15 minute cities so they don't want you to go far. Oxford UK is already a 15 minute city. I would look into it...used to be a conspiracy like most things that are true now. Like Bill Gate, George Soros and the EU now wants to block out the Sun! Not sure if Russia will agree with this?

I live in western New York state. During last year's blizzard people with EVs couldn't charge them efficiently because it was too cold. One guy tired for over eight hours and barely got any charge to the cars battery
Hell, American cars made in China are still half the price of this, 40 grand for something that doesn't start, jumpy suspension and over 10 year out of date styling? I'd stick to an old Lada or drive a Volvo if I had any other choice out there.

I think Toyota got it right, with their electric/gas powered hybrid car they introduced many years ago. Improving on that type of vehicle as the years go by, would have solved many problems such as air pollution and more distance travelled. 😀
Japanese manufacturers make a lot of hybrid cars, and have done for a good few years now. There are a lot of hybrid vehicles here now, as New Zealand imports new and used vehicles from Japan (we also drive on the left). Mine is a Toyota hybrid. Pure electric cars are still expensive right now, but they’re definitely going to supplant ICE pretty quickly. Then people stuck with those will be complaining about how hard it is to find gas, and how new mechanic’s don’t understand how to maintain their car. Talk to the guys who run coal-fired locomotives.
Some manufacturers got it right and make profitable products, but some like Volkswagen are digging themselves their own grave shutting down gas powered vehicles to replace them with electric ones that nobody wants to buy. I think the right choice is to make cars that people want and not that journalists want. An attempt to please green activists will lead to the loss of jobs, which means people will live much worse, the green agenda is not worth playing with human lives
$37,000 is expensive especially for an electric car. Here in the states I think they run $50,000. I refuse to buy one especially if there is ever a power outage. Gas operated cars are about it for me. The $22,000 price tag for a gas car is about the same as in the states. You would think you might be able to get it for a little less in Russia. Maybe they will have some rebates or something.
@@yashpatel261You wouldn't be able to get any gas from the gas pumps in a power outage either though, gas stations don't work at all without power. And you can even use the electricity in these cars for backup power for an entire week or more if needed.
I have a 10-year-old electric Renault Zoe that I love very dearly, amazing car even in the harsh nordic winters! Heat pump means loads of heat, so you never have to worry about the car starting and you never have to wait around for the car or cabin to heat up! Our newer Polestar 2 has been great for cross-country trips in Europe too!
The first car I rode in Russia back in 2000 was my future father in law’s Moskvitch in a weird green colour. Not the greatest of cars but still worked in all weathers.

As a car guy it's exciting to see 😊 Here in DK, we are going all in on ev, but there are so expensive but will be worsein a couple of year's when there gonna get hit with the Tax hammer like petrol cars.. petrol and diesel cars is also expensive and have a 150% tax on the buying price. No cheap cars here, and i pay 1000 usd a year in emission TAX for a 2018 Opel insignia 2.0 diesel, and it gets 18 km/l but our politicians HATE diesel.. U have called it a war, showed us the sanctions consequence on the buying power and so on.... Just sad the west has that narrative. We have the same car in México under the brand “JAC”. They’ve been in Mexico for the past 5-6 years, they were the first Chinese manufacturer to enter the country, and also was advertised as a “Mexican car” because they’re manufactured locally. They’re “good” cars, relatively cheap for an electric suv (there’s a city which entire police car fleet was replaced by these EV’s) and currently competing with the wave of Chinese brands entering the Mexican market. (GWM, Chirei, Changan, etc)
Nice to see we aren’t the only ones being gouged on prices of electrics. They could be making and selling these for way less money. We’re just being gouged. And if anyone actually cared about the environment, they could make very affordable versions

One of the main points to electric cars is given the huge price for batteries after max 10 yrs, the resale will be zero, and a huge amount of people will no longer be able to afford to drive. We'll mostly be on public transit, while the rich can still drive. WEF in action. I mean really, anyone with any sense can figure out there is no way we can charge all those cars. The whole grid would have to be rebuilt.

Electric cars in extreme weather are not the best cars to have. Using AC (air conditioning) or the heater, will drastically reduce your range. I owned one in the Phoenix Arizona area. Temperatures were in 46 to 48.5 in the summer and would get down to 5.5 or lower in the winter. I'm sure using the heater to defrost the windows of the car in Moscow would give you 100 km on a full charge. I used the heated seats per the driver's manual instead of the heater in the winter and the AC intermittently on my ride home. Going to work in the morning I endured the 32.3 degrees.
EV users in winter in the cold regions of China will install a fuel heater by themselves. The fuel consumption is about 1L per day, but the performance of EV returns to 90% of that in summer. It sounds awkward, but it is still cost-effective.

I can personally attest to that as well, living in northern Sweden I have a 10-year-old Renault Zoe, which is the best winter car I have ever owned, it gets warm instantly with the built-in heat pump, so you never have to wait around for it to get warm.
@@sagradamoly4234 There is actuallly one ferry company that has banned hybrid, hydrogen and electric cars from its ships, you're completely right about that, but multiple others allow it, and there's actually even multiple fully electric ferries in service in Norway now. Then when it comes to how many fires there are it's much more rare for electric cars, official fire statistics in multiple countries (Norway, Sweden, Australia and the US) show that an electric car is 1/20th as likely to catch fire as a gasoline or diesel-powered car, and these numbers have been independently verified by studies as well (of course official statistics are already a very reliable source to begin with). The fires are of course more intense and long-lasting when they happen, but new battery technologies have come onto the market now that help with this, like the very popular LFP-battery type, which hardly burns at all and usually self-extinguish. TheConversation has a very good article on this that links to all the different sources fittingly titled "Electric vehicle fires are very rare. The risk for petrol and diesel vehicles is at least 20 times higher". It's very good, recommend reading it. 👍
This is a bad car. He doesn't know how to drive straight. He has an "empty" steering wheel without feedback. Even on the 11:28 video, you can see how the author constantly turns the steering wheel on a straight section. I drove this car myself and almost threw up. It does not keep a straight line and a rut and throws it from the slightest breeze. Opel 2012 has no such problems if it is serviceable.

I used to work for the VW, and i can tell you car industry is "getting creative" everywhere, especially in europe post sanctions, If you want it more bluntly, car industry is missing resources and is in deep shit, new car prices skyrocket while quality has tanked significantly over the past 15 years, to the point where chinese cars are catching up to the european cars in terms of build quality, only innovation that is going on is in cost reduction, and finnicky useless stuff, like smart features and gadgets. expensive dashboards are replaced by touchscreens, with dumb useless features like ability to change colour of lighting in interior while the interior itself is made of cheap plastic and emission standards have pushed reliable big displacement engines out in favour of sub 2 liter engines with 2 turbos tuned to the limit just to save on some co2. Complex air suspension, and other high tech systems sacrificing reliability and practicality in favour of comfort and complicated hybrids that are a nightmare to fix with plenty of things that can go wrong. Finnicky, boring, overpriced, full of gimicks and features that are more likely to cause headaches than benefit, and poorly built with not enough spare parts to keep majority of them on the road for forseeable future. Dont expect any of those new vehicles to even come close to the build quality or lifespan of legends like the sub 5th generation golf, old VW jetta, Mercedes E series and the like. Or even old BMW 3 series, you cant clown on russian car industry and at the same time act like car manufacturing didnt take a nosedive in past decades in the west, russia is doing okay considering their situation and means. By the way, little known fact is both mercedes and VW has plants in russia. Our neighbour has an old LADA NIVA, and that thing still drives, hes had it since i was a little kid, i am 30 now.
The transition from petrol cars is a hybrid which is a step forward from petrol and solves the out of range electric car distance issue. Isn't it ironic that diesel railway locos are the original hybrid systems ?
Railway locomotives use diesel electric power to drive electric traction motors on the drive wheels. Using a gearbox like hybrid cars wouldn't work in a locomotive. The same diesel electric combination is used in submarines, stationary generators and the massive dump trucks used in mining.
NEVER EVER buy a battery car (they're not really "electric" cars anyway - they're BATTERY cars). In addition to cold weather start/running issues, they've been known to spontaneously burst into flames (even aboard transport ships (causing REAL problems) are MUCH heavier than petrol vehicles and are not as "cheap' to charge up as claimed. And even more, insurance companies are now starting to realize all the downsides and have begun to increase premiums and don't even think about how much repairs and replacements will be. This isn't about the electric motors, or other tech in the vehicle, it's about BATTERIES. Bottom line is that battery technology just isn't mature enough yet. RUN don't walk away. Just think about it this way - if the West is pushing it, is it something you want to do? My research tells me the Lada's have come a long way and are very reasonably priced.
You are talking bullshit without any evidence. All car batteries are required to last at least 10 years or 300 000km and keep 80% of their capacity. If car is in a crash and fire is detected, the car battery needs to last 5 minutes without catching fire to past the certification test.

I’ve been driving a Mercedes’ 2007 e350 convertible with 6 cylinder and have had minimal problems with it for 5-6 years. I bought it used for 5000.00 cash with 97,000 miles. It’s a great car but the top motor never worked. The seals were bad when I bought it but I haven’t bothered taking the top down but once. It nice when it’s working! It’s a very reliable car and decent gas mileage! I recommend Mercedes cars! I also had a e Series AMG v8 it rode great but was a gas guzzler!

Russia did like most of the west, rather than spend time developing their own. They just bought stuff, because it's easier and cheaper. Buying chinese labor was cheaper, buying microchips was cheap and easy. Importing cars are easy. In short, outsourcing things are easy and convinient, and works in a globalized world. Not so much in isolated markets, and if things like sanctions happens, you're on your own and are now in a race to revive or build those industries.

I used to work in IT support, now software and.. it's true. 99% problems get solved by restarting the device. Just a couple days back I got into my girlfriend's car and her dashboard lights were off for some reason + high beams were only working while pressing them. We stopped at a railway intersection, asked her to turn it off/on and it worked again. :D

Here in Brazil the Chinese brands weren't successful at first, JAC had a limited success and Cherry bombed (I always wanted to do that joke), but a Brazilian company buoyed halft the shares of Cherry and made the CAOA Cherry, which is somehow a success, Brazilians are very proud people, we like things taylored our way, hence the VW here is different from the German one, I guess the Chinese brands learned from us that national indentification is important to the brand, hence Moskovitz instead of JAC.

I visited this Renault factory long ago when they started Renault 19 production. There were a few posts fixing bumpers to ready cars imported from Turkey....Hence, they did a good job launching this JAC production so quickly. Hope to see more models soon. And great video as usual, really enjoyed!

Modern automotive manufacturers basically are just assembling from ready components, in order to increase localisation many businesses have to be established in Russia. We just recently launched a local ABS systems assembly clone of Chinese which is a clone of Bosch).
They do the same with china cars: fixing some parts like bumpers and mirrors, and they can say « made in russia!! »

We both live in Russia and know that buying an electric car here is a futile move. The only thing I encounter less than electric car chargers are foreigners. We have no infrastructure. Gas is €0.50/liter vs €2.00/liter in the EU. Plus, you know the true parking situation that most ordinary Russians face in the муравейники. I'm not a pessimistic person - but I don't ever see electric cars becoming common in Russia during my lifetime. Great piece tho! Really nice to see you cover the intriguing Moskvich.
Electric Bicycles are way more compatible with Russian Apartment lifestyle, for everything else. Diesel and petrol cars if you want to go out of town.

Agreed, in Europe, as you stated petrol/diesel are right around 2 euros, so it does make some sense going electric as you will notice savings after a couple or half a dozen years. In Russia it makes no sense since fuel is quarter of the price in EU, you would have to drive that electric vehicle for over a decade for it to pay off. Not to mention batteries probably would not like Russian winter.
We? There are over 300 charging points for cars in Moscow, including almost 100 of 50 kW+ chargers of Energy of Moscow network alone. There are also many other networks, like Mosenergo, Yandex, Plankt E and so on. And hundreds of private charging points. In total in Moscow region there are almost 1000 charging points.
Needless to say about electric buses. Moscow is by far most ahead of rest of any other city in the world outside China, with almost 1.5 thousand electric buses, which is double of London.

This is JAC JS4 sold under localized brand. Moskvich 6 is A5 Plus. What's wrong about it? What about Dacia cars sold under Renault and Nissan brands on markets with no Dacia presence? There were Renault Sandero and Renault Duster, yet no questions. And there are tones and tones of examples, even Samsung cars.
My friend in St Petersburg purchased a Moskvich 3 a few months ago for $23k. He loves his car. He has gone on many long trips with it.

Might be time to get your new car if you really want. Why ? The rubel has been loosing its value in the past 12 months by 56% against the chinese juan which means the prices will increase 5% per month and it does not look better even chinese production is also decreasing.
The only workaround which we observe here are russians visiting germany to buy cars for import, there are a lot and always buying 1 car only, same for the truck guys that have purchased all the old 4x4 trucks and all those of use for military supplies, but that market has been closed and there are now restrictions in place .
Only car for russians with the permission to enter EU can buy one car up to 50.000€ of value. And lot of them appear to buy even though it is a mystery how they are able to pay considering no one accepts rubel or Dollar , just euro.
So might be time to prepare a decision cause chinese cars will become a lot more expensive and the used car market here is also still strong due to order backlog from the pandemic.
Skoda and VW ICE cars sell still very well.

This is why the sales representative mentioned it as a potential second family car. In my residential complex, we already have a dedicated charging facility, and I've noticed a growing number of charging stations across the city, making charging increasingly convenient.
However, I personally lean towards a more robust electric vehicle with faster charging capabilities.

100% my bmw only has 140 mile range but it’s never been an issue; almost all my journeys in reality are less than this and with 90k miles on the clock it’s only ever had basic services to get that far.
Still drives like it rolled out the show room!
Very long trips I’ve started to consider the train now where it makes sense to otherwise yes a long journey needs a lot more planning than ICE but realistically that happens no more than twice a year.

infrastructure is king when it comes to EV. But convenience is important too. Once moving to one pedal driving there’s no coming back, or at least that’s what my wife said after having her tesla m3 for a month. The quiet power the relaxed feeling while driving, those are the EV advantages. Also, after one year of having it we realized what a hassle gas stations are. For one year ownership we have used public charging stations about 8 times and for a long voiage it turned out that stopping every 200 miles or so for 30min is actually an advantage. Another thing I realized is with one pedal driving breaks will last life time. All in all i am not buying another ICE and not because the environment.

I have a BMW i3 REX - charge it off of solar for free half the year and £2 overnight charge at home during the winter. It’s a game changer!

In the winter yes £60 if I am driving a lot every day but realistically 1/4 if that.
This replaced a diesel Land Rover that with huge fuel prices was costing me £150-200 per month!

Audi, Volkswagen and Skoda are coming back to Russia
Volkswagen Group have announced their return to Russia under a new name: AGR Automotive Group.
They made the announcement Wednesday on their Russian social media accounts, which have not seen a post since February 23, 2022.
The company said that its dealers will continue to operate in the same mode as before, and also announced a lot of "interesting events", urging the audience to keep an eye out for further announcements.
The Russian market is too big for these companies to leave.
Now, I can't help but think of Renault reading this, sitting there like, "Wait, we just sold our billion-dollar worth of investments for one ruble, and these guys are rolling back in? It seems the twists and turns in sanction saga are far from over :)

Yeah, they have no choice but to suspend their operations on Russian market. But the influx of Chinese cars as they're trying to solidify their grip into Russia through discounts makes European brands struggle an uphill battle. Even if they try to reach the Russian car market, I wonder what would be the reaction of the EU.

Great video! Important is to keep factory going and safe workplaces. With time more and more localization will be done, that's a natural process. West has just shown to the world how unreliable it is and it's not anymore trustworthy. That's why the rest of the world is now watching China and Russia. China provides the industrial power and Russia provides the nuclear defense to all partners.
My guess electric cars won't be popular in Russia as gas prices are not high and electric cars are expensive. Also Russia is a a massive country and needs huge investment in charging infrastructure otherwise the cars will be limited to travel in the cities.

On the electric car front. I have had Tesla for last four years. I couldn’t be happier.
PS: seeing the picture of good ol’ Ladinka brought happy memories back of when I was in Moscowa, back in 2000.
Tesla is designed for tropical countries such as Germany and the USA. Where I live in Russia, winter lasts 8 months, and the temperature from December to January does not rise above minus 30 °C / 86F for 4 weeks. In the remaining winter months until April, the heat is minus 20°C/68F. And don't forget about the snow, which can fall knee-deep in a day, and so on for several days in a row.

Thankfully through this channel and the "wild Siberian" we get glimpses into the Russian life because so many RUclips channels with anything pro Russia were removed. Everyone wants peace and until there's a human to human connection we will always misunderstand each other.
Only southern Russia is a good place to raise EV. St. Petersburg, Moscow, Ekaterinburg and all other northern cities aren't well places for batteries and chargers. They are used to tank gas, propane and other liquid fuels.
Nice video as always. I think China is ahead of any other western country in terms of EVs because of the government's focus on green technology. But European and Japanese cars are ahead of Chinese cars on ICE segment.
But for a country as large as Russia, electric vehicles are not a good option just because of the lack of infrastructural development in charging stations(I don't know much about the charging infrastructure in Russia) which is completely different in China or even Europe.

Until an EV can recharge as quickly as filling a fuel tank, be reliable in Freezing conditions, and not burst into flames spontaneously they have a long way to go. In US the electric grid can hardly support it's self now without have the tremendous amount of extra capacity for EV. Also just like with smart meters and Digital currencies they can shut down anyone at anytime.

The e-car has no future in Russia! Gasoline is gasoline even at -60 degrees Celsius, the battery dies in Siberia.
Moreover also because gas is cheap anyway, in Russia €0.50 / liter, in Europe it's €2.00 / liter. It makes sense to buy an electric car there, where you'll save much more on gas. And also, Russia is very big, you'll def want a gas car for longer distances

The Russian side Kamaz chose a weaker out of the top 10 Chinese automakers as partner to keep controlling interest while stronger Chinese brands like Chery would prefer much larger ownership in local manufacturing joint ventures. Now the Europeans and the Japanese have vacated quality Soviet-time autoplants for the Chinese to partner up with, better cars are being made or planned as we speak. Russia levies 50% import tax, shipping and registration cost another 20%, unfortunately the big price gap between two countries for the same car can't be arbitraged away. Love the red pioneer tie on the pretty sales lady. The translation for what the factory rep said after being asked if they were unhappy about the abandonment should read like "it is what it is. They've made their choice, we ought to draw our own conclusion". guess they are unhappy after all. Who could blame them. Thank tou for another great reporting!

It appears that in the long run France has done Russia a great service. In America the Chrysler, and General Motors corporations have received multiple bailouts, and handouts, as well as buyouts and down sizing. Now being forced to produce largely unwanted, Impractical and unpopular electric vehicles the industry is struggling.
All they're doing is helping Russia slowly make it self stronger through becoming more self reliant. They're like a group of bullies who pick on a kid by making him carry their books and stealing his bike so he has to walk to school. He gets stronger every die while they stagnate

I do hope the Russian auto industry can get the kickstart it needs to produce vehicles entirely on its own. Given the circumstances, it seems they're doing the best they can. As far as electric vehicles go, it seems the concerns surrounding them are pretty universal. In America, I would not own one much for the same reasons you expressed here. I don't believe the technology is proven or efficient enough to be a viable replacement for gasoline or diesel vehicles. Though, for some they may be practical to have as a secondary vehicle, I personally would have no need for one. Thank you for these insights! I had my first EV experience a few days ago, very smooth, erily quiet, the moment you push the pedal, the car flies like a rocket without making a sound, to me, its a very different experience.
Electric is the future. I want one. But the price is still high.
EVs still take forever to charge up and you frequently need to stop more often to charge which makes long trips take even longer, even in short city trips, for it to take 8 to 12 hours to fully charge just to get somewhere in a short distance is ridiculous.

My opinion on electric cars is that they're a scam and a joke. Over in the west they are already failing badly. They can't sell them because they are too expensive and resale values are terrible. They con you on distance they can actually travel before you have to recharge the car and if you are in the middle of nowhere, where do you charge? They are also not environmentally friendly like people think they are and the batteries can't be recycled and new batteries are like a cost of a new gas powered car. I could go on but you get the picture.
But good for Russia over coming and adapting to foolish western sanctions.

The sound, placement of the interviewee, narrative arc, cuts, graphics, and video effects would not look out of place in a big newsroom, but you kept enough youtuber aesthetic in some scenes. Love it. (And great, direct into "Meet the new..." *thwump* sound-effect - brought me right into the story). I watched your Q and A vid from a while back about how you maintain your English pronunciation/accent, so I thought you might want to know that I think you say "ummm" and "uhhh" quite a lot in unscripted spots. Its noticeable to me, but I can't speak for others. I don't know if you do this in Russian, or because you are focusing on perfect pronunciation, or what. But you're a pro so I thought you'd want to be aware. I'm a native English speaker, but had to learn two other languages. I must say that I've noticed that you're idiom skill is as top-notch as your accent skill! Keep up the good work!

Yes the new and second hand fully EV market has nose dived because people don't want all electric. The Tesla is only the second best seller (UK) because Elon is giving Businesses and international companies give away deals. The EV private sector is dying. But the western Globalists want 15 minute cities so they don't want you to go far. Oxford UK is already a 15 minute city.
I would look into it...used to be a conspiracy like most things that are true now. Like Bill Gate, George Soros and the EU now wants to block out the Sun! Not sure if Russia will agree with this?

I live in western New York state. During last year's blizzard people with EVs couldn't charge them efficiently because it was too cold. One guy tired for over eight hours and barely got any charge to the cars battery
Yes, however apparently Chinese EVs have overcome this . Made in USA just can't compete.
No e-car can charge if it's too cold. Even after 24 hours, you still won't get any juice into the battery.

They will not be making a car. They will still be assembling parts delivered from China. Making a car includes all designing, engineering and testing.
I think Toyota got it right, with their electric/gas powered hybrid car they introduced many years ago. Improving on that type of vehicle as the years go by, would have solved many problems such as air pollution and more distance travelled. 😀
Japanese manufacturers make a lot of hybrid cars, and have done for a good few years now.
There are a lot of hybrid vehicles here now, as New Zealand imports new and used vehicles from Japan (we also drive on the left). Mine is a Toyota hybrid.
Pure electric cars are still expensive right now, but they’re definitely going to supplant ICE pretty quickly. Then people stuck with those will be complaining about how hard it is to find gas, and how new mechanic’s don’t understand how to maintain their car. Talk to the guys who run coal-fired locomotives.
Some manufacturers got it right and make profitable products, but some like Volkswagen are digging themselves their own grave shutting down gas powered vehicles to replace them with electric ones that nobody wants to buy.
I think the right choice is to make cars that people want and not that journalists want.
An attempt to please green activists will lead to the loss of jobs, which means people will live much worse, the green agenda is not worth playing with human lives
Electric cars in Russia seem frankly not the best option, regarding the low temperatures you have in winter...
$37,000 is expensive especially for an electric car. Here in the states I think they run $50,000. I refuse to buy one especially if there is ever a power outage. Gas operated cars are about it for me. The $22,000 price tag for a gas car is about the same as in the states. You would think you might be able to get it for a little less in Russia. Maybe they will have some rebates or something.

And you can even use the electricity in these cars for backup power for an entire week or more if needed.

I have a 10-year-old electric Renault Zoe that I love very dearly, amazing car even in the harsh nordic winters!
Heat pump means loads of heat, so you never have to worry about the car starting and you never have to wait around for the car or cabin to heat up!
Our newer Polestar 2 has been great for cross-country trips in Europe too!

Here in DK, we are going all in on ev, but there are so expensive but will be worsein a couple of year's when there gonna get hit with the Tax hammer like petrol cars.. petrol and diesel cars is also expensive and have a 150% tax on the buying price. No cheap cars here, and i pay 1000 usd a year in emission TAX for a 2018 Opel insignia 2.0 diesel, and it gets 18 km/l but our politicians HATE diesel.. So probably gonna get forced to get a EV next time😢

So being a journalist is hard in Russia.. That just dont make sense when we see your Channel, because if it was true you would sadly be in prison. U have called it a war, showed us the sanctions consequence on the buying power and so on.... Just sad the west has that narrative. The author is talking nonsense, Renault is going on the B0 platform, Vesta - on a more modern branded Lada B/C platform.
We have the same car in México under the brand “JAC”. They’ve been in Mexico for the past 5-6 years, they were the first Chinese manufacturer to enter the country, and also was advertised as a “Mexican car” because they’re manufactured locally. They’re “good” cars, relatively cheap for an electric suv (there’s a city which entire police car fleet was replaced by these EV’s) and currently competing with the wave of Chinese brands entering the Mexican market. (GWM, Chirei, Changan, etc)

We'll mostly be on public transit, while the rich can still drive. WEF in action.

Most people haven’t figured out that even if we could afford an EV, we can’t afford to get one every 6-10 yrs, when we can’t even sell the old ones, because the dead batteries makes them worthless. Not to mention the fact that the power grid would never be able to support the drain placed on it if we could.

Electric cars in extreme weather are not the best cars to have. Using AC (air conditioning) or the heater, will drastically reduce your range. I owned one in the Phoenix Arizona area. Temperatures were in 46 to 48.5 in the summer and would get down to 5.5 or lower in the winter. I'm sure using the heater to defrost the windows of the car in Moscow would give you 100 km on a full charge. I used the heated seats per the driver's manual instead of the heater in the winter and the AC intermittently on my ride home. Going to work in the morning I endured the 32.3 degrees.

EV users in winter in the cold regions of China will install a fuel heater by themselves. The fuel consumption is about 1L per day, but the performance of EV returns to 90% of that in summer. It sounds awkward, but it is still cost-effective.
@@RealReporterThe fact that Norway, a very cold nordic country, has the most EV sales in the entire world, with over 80% of all new cars sold being EVs, should be very telling of the fact EVs work very well in the winter.
I can personally attest to that as well, living in northern Sweden I have a 10-year-old Renault Zoe, which is the best winter car I have ever owned, it gets warm instantly with the built-in heat pump, so you never have to wait around for it to get warm.

@@sagradamoly4234 There is actuallly one ferry company that has banned hybrid, hydrogen and electric cars from its ships, you're completely right about that, but multiple others allow it, and there's actually even multiple fully electric ferries in service in Norway now.
Then when it comes to how many fires there are it's much more rare for electric cars, official fire statistics in multiple countries (Norway, Sweden, Australia and the US) show that an electric car is 1/20th as likely to catch fire as a gasoline or diesel-powered car, and these numbers have been independently verified by studies as well (of course official statistics are already a very reliable source to begin with).
The fires are of course more intense and long-lasting when they happen, but new battery technologies have come onto the market now that help with this, like the very popular LFP-battery type, which hardly burns at all and usually self-extinguish.
TheConversation has a very good article on this that links to all the different sources fittingly titled "Electric vehicle fires are very rare. The risk for petrol and diesel vehicles is at least 20 times higher". It's very good, recommend reading it. 👍
This is a bad car. He doesn't know how to drive straight. He has an "empty" steering wheel without feedback. Even on the 11:28 video, you can see how the author constantly turns the steering wheel on a straight section. I drove this car myself and almost threw up. It does not keep a straight line and a rut and throws it from the slightest breeze. Opel 2012 has no such problems if it is serviceable.

From what i have seen....Russias doing better economically than most other countries.
I used to work for the VW, and i can tell you car industry is "getting creative" everywhere, especially in europe post sanctions,
If you want it more bluntly, car industry is missing resources and is in deep shit, new car prices skyrocket while quality has tanked significantly over the past 15 years, to the point where chinese cars are catching up to the european cars in terms of build quality, only innovation that is going on is in cost reduction, and finnicky useless stuff, like smart features and gadgets. expensive dashboards are replaced by touchscreens, with dumb useless features like ability to change colour of lighting in interior while the interior itself is made of cheap plastic and emission standards have pushed reliable big displacement engines out in favour of sub 2 liter engines with 2 turbos tuned to the limit just to save on some co2. Complex air suspension, and other high tech systems sacrificing reliability and practicality in favour of comfort and complicated hybrids that are a nightmare to fix with plenty of things that can go wrong. Finnicky, boring, overpriced, full of gimicks and features that are more likely to cause headaches than benefit, and poorly built with not enough spare parts to keep majority of them on the road for forseeable future.
Dont expect any of those new vehicles to even come close to the build quality or lifespan of legends like the sub 5th generation golf, old VW jetta, Mercedes E series and the like. Or even old BMW 3 series, you cant clown on russian car industry and at the same time act like car manufacturing didnt take a nosedive in past decades in the west, russia is doing okay considering their situation and means. By the way, little known fact is both mercedes and VW has plants in russia.
Our neighbour has an old LADA NIVA, and that thing still drives, hes had it since i was a little kid, i am 30 now.
The transition from petrol cars is a hybrid which is a step forward from petrol and solves the out of range electric car distance issue. Isn't it ironic that diesel railway locos are the original hybrid systems ?
Railway locomotives use diesel electric power to drive electric traction motors on the drive wheels. Using a gearbox like hybrid cars wouldn't work in a locomotive. The same diesel electric combination is used in submarines, stationary generators and the massive dump trucks used in mining.
NEVER EVER buy a battery car (they're not really "electric" cars anyway - they're BATTERY cars). In addition to cold weather start/running issues, they've been known to spontaneously burst into flames (even aboard transport ships (causing REAL problems) are MUCH heavier than petrol vehicles and are not as "cheap' to charge up as claimed. And even more, insurance companies are now starting to realize all the downsides and have begun to increase premiums and don't even think about how much repairs and replacements will be. This isn't about the electric motors, or other tech in the vehicle, it's about BATTERIES. Bottom line is that battery technology just isn't mature enough yet. RUN don't walk away. Just think about it this way - if the West is pushing it, is it something you want to do? My research tells me the Lada's have come a long way and are very reasonably priced.
You are talking bullshit without any evidence. All car batteries are required to last at least 10 years or 300 000km and keep 80% of their capacity. If car is in a crash and fire is detected, the car battery needs to last 5 minutes without catching fire to past the certification test.
Statistics in the UK show that EV cost 22% more to fix and 14% longer to fix, probably explains a little why premiums are higher

I’ve been driving a Mercedes’ 2007 e350 convertible with 6 cylinder and have had minimal problems with it for 5-6 years. I bought it used for 5000.00 cash with 97,000 miles. It’s a great car but the top motor never worked. The seals were bad when I bought it but I haven’t bothered taking the top down but once. It nice when it’s working! It’s a very reliable car and decent gas mileage! I recommend Mercedes cars! I also had a e Series AMG v8 it rode great but was a gas guzzler!

Russia did like most of the west, rather than spend time developing their own. They just bought stuff, because it's easier and cheaper.
Buying chinese labor was cheaper, buying microchips was cheap and easy. Importing cars are easy. In short, outsourcing things are easy and convinient, and works in a globalized world.
Not so much in isolated markets, and if things like sanctions happens, you're on your own and are now in a race to revive or build those industries.
