  • The Mandalorian Season 3 episode 1 review is back after it's previous 2 series and Star Wars Boba Fett tie in on Disney Plus. Set after the events of Obi-Wan Kenobi it features the Mandalorian fighting across the galaxy with sidekick baby Yoda Grogu. But with previous Disney+ Star War series we have to ask, is The Mandalorian Season 3 Episode 1 premiere worth watching?

The Mandalorian is back with season 3 episode 1 on Disney Plus and well, it's more Mandalorian. If you liked the previous seasons, you'll like this it's very much more of the same (without Cara Dune). Odd long sections of nothing happening for a 33ish minute episode but it does have a crocodile fight, blasters and a space battle in it. Although the script left a lot to be desired and a lot of this feels like a vehicle for Baby Yoda merch. But what did you think of what you saw? Let me know your thoughts down below and as always, thanks for watching :)

Amazing how quickly these shows dive into drivel these days. A season lasts 10 episodes these days. Long are the days of 26 episode seasons for 7 seasons or more -- back when the writing was top-notch for most of the run. This episode was pretty lame and this is only episode 1 of Season 3.

I remember reading one of the Solo twin books. And in it they have to fight that same assassin droid. And it is a very famous assassin droid for one particular reason. Because there are multiple copies of it. If one is destroyed, another one in a secret location somewhere in the universe will be activated. And still go after the target that it was sent to assassinate. And the reason why it's in a secret location is because the person who made the droid was some type of mad crazy scientist person who went out of their way to develop one of the most perfect assassin droids. And we'll keep coming after it's target to the Target is dead and the bounty is complete or the bounty has been canceled. Destroying one will only stop it for a few months as the replacement will make its way to you. So they are acting as if in this show that this is the only one of it kind and that they only really added it in because they showed it in one of the Star wars movies. Empire strikes back and put it in there for nostalgia reasons without understanding any of the lore behind it.
You would think that Disney would have kept the extended universe and all that other stuff. Because all that would have required them do is read a shitload of books. Watch some stuff online. And they probably be able to come up with much better original stories and adapt extended universe stories for this stuff. But they didn't. They decided to hire cheap writers who don't know how to write anything. And decided to get rid of all the extended universe. I guess Disney doesn't want to be crediting other people and has to pay them royalty money instead of them getting all the money. Personally I think they would have been better off keeping the extending universe and having better stories to rely on and they would have been seen a lot more viewership and stuff.

It added to the strong implication that in previous centuries, Yoda looked very different from his elderly form. It's even hinted that he might have been larger when young. this of course was all forgotten by the people behind the sequel trilogy or the Mandalorian.
Yet another thing forgotten by the prequel/sequel production teams. Like how Darth Vader's original trilogy helmet was intentionally asymmetrical, so that it was more like a real face, but then that got 'fixed' by the people who made the prequels (because those people were idiots and didn't even bother to watch the 'making of' documentaries from the original trilogy). Or how Vader and ROTJ Luke wore black because that was the colour worn by all historical Jedi - this fact even made it as far as the storyboards for The Phantom Menace, but just before shooting began, Lucas decided audiences were too stupid to remember what Jedi are meant to look like, so gave them all the peasant robes worn by Obi-Wan in ANH.

-Vader's mask was asymmetrical because it was two pieces individually molded. It wasn't much of a glaring issue in the next two films as the process got better.

During the final confrontation, Luke's shirt opened, revealing white underneath, a visual reminder that he's pure at his core.
-Storyboards was an easy way of expressing action, they never use the film costumes, they're meant to be quick sketches, and those weren't the ROTJ outfit anyway.
-And shall I remind you that ghost Anakin's robes were no different than Ob-Wans? Or that Lucas' early sketches of young Obi-Wan and Vader had them wearing the same robes even then?

Shall we get into the truly deep lore, from the early 1980s, where Owen Lars was actually Obi-Wan's brother, and not Anakin's? Or the fact that Jabba was originally supposed to simply be the human-looking guy that they retrospectively CG'ed the ROTJ creature over, with the claim "the human was just a stand-in, and we couldn't afford the Jabba puppet until ROTJ" being nothing more than retroactive nonsense?
Perhaps you should pick up an actual book once in a while. One written prior to the prequel trilogy releases, that explains what the actual original intentions and design choices of the original movie production crew were.
Vader's asymmetrial helmet was by design. He and Luke wore black because that was the uniform of the pre-Empire Jedi, who were supposed to resemble jet-black robed Samurai. This is all discussed in-depth by Lucas and his crew in the behind the scenes material for ROTJ. You even see Luke testing his ROTJ costume out of the first time, and Lucas commenting "Okay, NOW you look like a Jedi..."

My theory is that after the disaster of the sequel trilogy, Disney assumed that the Mandolorian (a show they had already paid for) was going to fail and so were hands off with the production, allowing the creators more freedom. Lo and behold it was a smash hit due to the LACK OF MEDDLING from execs.
So, of course, they had to do a season 2, except this time the execs had their eye on it, and inevitably ruined it by doing the same thing they did with Episode 9: clog it with cameo advertisements, whilst also obviously saying “Do season 1 again!”
This can also be seen with Andor. A show nobody asked for, about a character doomed to die, and being released after the utter disasters of Boba Fett and Obiwan.

The most frustrating thing about The Mandalorian is its creative potential. My friends and I always wanted to know and see more about them. The lore and the characters leave Disney with unlimited power to do good by the Star Wars franchise, but they throw it away. The Mandalorian shouldn't be a sitcom, it should be an Odyssey.

I do wonder how much thought goes into space battles for shows like this. So space in my mind should use real life navy or air force for it's manoeuvres and traits of ships/aircraft. I feel it adds a glint of realism to make stuff more believable. For instance capital ships of different classes should different positives and negatives. Say the ship in this episode is a representation of an aircraft carrier then it's positives are access to a large number of fighters or bombers but the downside of that is a lack of firepower and being slow moving. What the scene should done is instead of having the capital ship use the threat of target lock and blowing up Mando with it's firepower. Change it instead to be that the pirate leader launches a dozen more ships in response to attempt to capture or kill him. It makes logically sense and you don't have to rely on the constant missing supposed target locked laser trope. Small change doesn't effect the plot in any way and you can still have your hero overcome or escape it. Of course the lasers from the fighters are going to miss but you can show diving, pitching, rolling from Mando to dodge them instead of the weapons being forced to miss.
