    Thanks for posting your video. We went to Lauder Lake this past Monday on an overnight trip based on your video. Water level has been high recently so we paddled up the creek, which was scenic and quite enjoyable. Stayed on the same site...great spot.

      That’s great, I miss Algonquin, hope to make a week trip in the fall ( my favourite time to camp ). I really enjoy canoeing creeks, and rivers, a whole different experience from lake travel. Really glad you enjoyed my video. Thanks for the comment.

      @jamescarey7277  6 лет назад

      Thanks Quinn, I didn't have the know how until I bought a book, and then I just followed the instructions.
      It is not perfect but it sure feels good to paddle and makes it that much better knowing you made it with your own hands.
      You should give it a try, you'll surprise yourself.

    • @quinnjasarovski1146

      Since you mentioned it I guess it wouldn't hurt to at least look into it. Would you mind giving the author of the book you used a plug. I'm sure I could find something myself but why not let this fellow get some exposure, after all he helped you build a really good looking craft.

    Thank you for not putting music to this video. To me the music is the silence. You have attained a couple of my bucket list items. 1. Build a wood canoe. 2. Canoe Algonquin. While I have 100+ hours last year in my local lake. I have yet to really travel more than 50 miles from my home in PA. I need to find a canoe builder/mentor near me!

    • @jamescarey7277
      @jamescarey7277  2 года назад

      Glad you enjoyed the silence, as I do. I built the canoe just using a book and taking my time because I had never done anything like that before. At 17 I bought a 16 foot fibreglass which was heavy but I was young. I built my 15 foot white cedar canoe specifically as a lighter solo canoe that could be used as I grew older.
      All you need is a good book and time and you can build anything. My wife and I built our log home from cutting the trees to finished house, sure there are always imperfections but we did it when “ professional “ log builders said we couldn’t.
      Send a photo when you get your canoe done.
      Jim

    Greetings ! I liked your remark about how important silence is important. In the city it is difficult to imagine what complete silence is in remote places, among the wildlife. Recently I was hiking on Lake Seliger. It is located about 350 km north-west of Moscow. There are some large and many small islands. The biggest island is called Khachin. In the midst of this island there are a lot of internal lakes of a small size. On one of these lakes, which is called a Shuchie ( at russian this fish named щука s'huka) from the word pike. There really can be caught pike. At night, silence sometimes scared me. It was possible to clearly hear the sound of the brewing of your heart. It was the feeling that the ears were filled with cotton. Only very rarely, where did the muted cuckoo or owl cry came from from afar. Nature in those places very much resembles the one shown in your video.

    • @jamescarey7277
      @jamescarey7277  2 года назад

      Thank you for taking the time to write your thoughts, I really appreciate the comment. The uncluttered silence which you experience in nature is soothing to me, I feel at home and in tune with my thoughts and feelings. Where you travel in Russia sounds beautiful.

    Great video. I do love the natural sounds of the wild, just like you do my friend. Way too many people on RUclips ruin what was meant to be a beautiful video of the outdoors with a loud, and rude sound track. Natural is much better in my honest opinion.Thanks again! Greg

    Enjoying your video blog. Really nice there's no overpowering music competing with your monologue. My old Eureka Alpine Meadows tent has the same pole structure as yours.

      Thanks so much for the comment. I tend to watch the RUclips videos without the upbeat music as well. A lot of tents seem to have a complicated pole system, but I like this one for being simple, my original Eureka was even less complicated, can't remember the name of it.

    FYI....Kioshkokwi is pronounced KEY OSH COCK WEE. I have started an interior trip from all AP access points and, in fact, I am planning on heading to Lauder Lake next spring as it is an easy trip as I am up in years (68) too. I have canoed all the regular canoe routes over the last 50 years or so. A site I belong to I think you might like. It is called algonquinadventures.ca and it is a board-host site where you can answer and pose questions from the many members of the site. The previous site was called algonquinadventures.com where you can click on the triplog icon and read about many trips people have taken in Algonquin Park. I believe I have 4 posted.....my handle is "boknows". And yes, in Algonquin language, Kioshkokwi means lake of many gulls. Come back any spring and you will see why! Nice video....really appreciate it. The campsite you were camped on is the one I have been planning on for the last few months from information I have gathered on Lauder Lake. It is the nicest one on the lake I have been told.

      I used "Canoecraft-A Harrowsmith Illustrated Guide To Fine Woodstrip Construction" by Ted Moores", which you can still purchase. It is the Hiawatha 15 foot design from the book.I built the canoe from a large white cedar that fell down on our property (I think after the big ice storm of '98), a neighbor came over with his portable saw mill and cut it into boards for me and I went from there. It took a while and its not perfect, but I love it.Thanks so much for the comment, means a lot to me every time someone remarks about her.

    Do it as long as you can I do and I’m 78 now. How much does your boat weigh. Mine is a 45 lb fibre glass 14 feet. That’s plenty of weight for me. Nice job on your video. Thanks. 🇨🇦👍

      Thanks for the comments Tom, and thanks for watching. Yes, I will keep camping as long as possible. I tried to weigh my canoe with standing on a scale with it, and without it, and I got 59 lbs. I thought it would be less, and it feels less. I made it 15 foot for ease of use as I grew older, and besides, I love solo canoe trips.
