LSx Swap Harness How To Simple & Free DIY Standalone on the Test Stand

- Showing the cheapest, fastest and easiest way to setup your LSx harness in your swap project. Detailed video of how to make the stock unmodified LS truck harness work by just giving it power in two spots. This method is simple, free and gets the engine running, but it sure isn't pretty.
People often ask me how I run the LS motors without modifying the factory harness so I make this quick list of what I do:
- First make sure that the VATS (Vehicle Anit Theft System) is disabled in the PCM by having a tuner turn it off when he "Flashes" the PCM. (You may want him to turn off your emissions at the same time.)
- Give power to the main fuse block terminal post.
- Then give power to pin A9 of the C1 plug of the fuse block. This will be you ignition hot. Thats it.
- Make sure that you've given the fuel rail about 58 PSI of fuel and it'll run.
I control the starter with a seperate switch or you can just jump the solenoid.

In this video, to supply FUEL to the engine, I used this very handy tool:

To have your VATS disabled from your PCM or to just buy another PCM already flashed the way that you want it, "CoolMike222" on eBay sells this service cheap and I know that he's a good trustworthy guy from previous transactions and interactions with him.
Here's a link for example.

The link below from LT1swap.com shows you a photo to help you find where to give power.

Now, that's just one example. It's the cheapest, fastest and easiest setup, but also the ugliest setup. To accomplish other harness methods for a cleaner less cluttered looking install, you must not be afraid of reading a wiring diagram. Once you look at it and see where I've told you to give power to, then you can follow that to know where to give power if you chose to run without the stock fuse block.

This is a small universal fuse block that I use when I cut the factory fuse block off for a cleaner look:

=============================
Q&A from the comments under this video:
Q: Can this be done with a drive by wire throttle body and harness?
A: Sure, I'd bet it's near the same. The main difference will be that you'll need to have the pedal and its harness connected as well, when running it. Also if interested, you can easily convert a DBW to DBC by adding the IAC and TPS pigtails to the harness and have the PMC flashed for DBC when you have the VATS removed.
Q: If I bring all the wires with harness like you did with fuse box will the trans still work also?
A: Yes
Q: Can I put this setup in my project just like this and everything will work and drive fine.
A: Yes, but there will likely be other wires that you'll want to hook up. One example is the TCC wire.
Q: What about the OBDII port?
A: If you'd like to use the OBDII port, you only have to find the one OBDII signal wire in the wiring diagram and run it and a power and ground wire to your OBDII port and it'll work.

I love the way you explain things, idk makes it easy to understand. Could you do a video on how to dress up a wiring harness so it's not so bulky?
Riley Marsh Thank you Riley! I really appreciate your feedback.
That video is on my to-do list. I hope to get to it one day. Right now, I’m still in the process of move though.
I finally get it now! You explained it better than the 191-page book I just read on how to swap an LS. This old gearhead is ready to come to the 21st century.
By far the best engine stand test video! Thanks bro. You're a genius
I love you for making this video thanks man!

Thanks for the info! The best part about an LS Swap is all of the hurt feelings when I lift the hood of my old Ford.
haha No problem! Glad that you enjoyed it.
Got any tips? Im gonna try putting a 5.3 in a 99 mustang that was originally a v6. I know itll all fit. Only thing I worry about is all the wiring and where to put stuff really. (First big project)

Thanks man that is way better than the other videos I watched thanks
Thanks for the info man, much appreciated. Absolutely killed it with the video. Very good clear to understand information.
i been putting off installing a ls in my 83 c10 but now it's on :)
It's 4 wires on the obdll port pin2,4,5,16 2 is cereal information, four and five are grounds, and 16 is power. And the serial information on your PCM is pin 58 on the blue connector
Best 🇺🇸 LS swap video ever you got me all pumped up now I want to put LS on everything thank you keep up the good work👍✌️
You just saved me a crap load of money. I was gonna buy a $750 harness and cpu, but now I will just do what you've done here. Thanks a bunch
+dawan antonio No problem! Those custom harness will look a lot better though. If you decide get get one that's cleaned up, I know a guy that is much cheaper than $750. I believe he'll redo an old one for closer to $300. Check out "LS Wiring Harness Conversions" on facebook. Good guy.
Put a shut off valve right where the air goes in on that canister, it'll run quite a while on it. I've done that to move cars around that have dead fuel pumps. I usually set the pressure a little low so the regulator doesn't open.
Good idea

That's a good question that I'm sure he'd be able to answer. Shoot him a message and see what he says. IT's be a couple years now since he's sent me a PCM and I was living in AL at the time. I'm an on-line shopper though, so i've gotten use to waiting a week for an item to come in the mail. It doesnt bother me at all.
hi my name is steve im trying to build a ls to put in my Oldsmobile cutlass whats the best way to go ??
Hey Steven. I'd need a more specific question to help you out, because you wouldn't necessarily have to build it at all. just drop it in stock and it'll still be great.

Hey bro! This video helped me so much for my 5.3 for my stand, is there any way you can explain how to set up a DBW 5.3?
I picked up my L59 from s 2006 Tahoe. I got it to idle on the stand. I picked up a DBW gas pedal from the yard today but don’t know how to connect it to the harness/fuse block. Can you show us how to set up a DBW set up?

What happen with the bcm how delivery the signal for the ecm for active the injector.
Roman Bacame This harness model didn't have a BCM, only a PCM and its there controlling the injectors. The BCM controls the body stuff.
Definitely a bad ass...thanks for taking the time
thanks. I did know about the brake pedal for the converter release. I found the fuel pump relay wire and managed to wire all that today. I had the 52 Chevy running today for 20 minutes. Tomorrow will move to the Plymouth coupe...again thanks

Yo these videos are very informative, noticed you are a Marine . I'm 0331 . But I mean no disrespect just wondering what the deal is with your painted toe nail my man . 🤔😐
When you have a daughter and she wants to paint your toe nails it's pretty hard to say no.
Awesome! I can't believe it's that easy. I'm goon give it a shot.
Awesome video Bro,Thanks a lot never imagined it was that simple.
this is fucking awesome, but how do you erase the security system on the ecu?
You have to take it to a tuning shop and have them take it off, via hp tuners or something like that.
There's a couple ways to do it, one involves swapping it into a silverado and doing a reset process and the other is a camaro i think.
I have a 2006 Silverado with a 5.3 and another ecu from a 5.3 that I need to have the vats remove is there a link that you can direct me to
Just look up GM VATS REMOVAL, and there should be a few videos that show the method of using a different chassis to remove it. I don't want to go too far into detail because it could be used nefariously.
A link to have your VATS removed is in the video description.
thank you so much... hit or miss on good videos. well done

Wow that's awesome! I have been thinking of getting this 5.3 to put in a 31 Ford rat rod but didn't want to spend the money on a stand alone and don't have the time to mess with all that spaghetti. This is super simple!
Thanks so much for this video. It helped me make my mind up I’m going to ls swap my 1985 Trans am
just wanna tell you I did exactly what you said and did and it worked great, thank you and also a awesome informative video
great presentation Marine!
Never knew it was that simple, everybody makes it seem like it's extra hard to do. Thanks AGearHead4life
jojow241 NP man! Most make it sound more difficult because they believe that you have to strip it all the way down to individual wires. You only have to do that if you want to complete customize your harness. I usually don't have much time, but want it to look a little better than it does with this bulky fuse block. So I take it one step further than in this video. I cut the plug off that goes into the fuse block from the harness and use a smaller universal fuse block to give power to the same wires that had power from the fuse block. It's basically just all the pink wires.
Thanks! This gave me a better understanding of the whole wiring process for the LS. 👍
Excellent! That's what it was meant to do. This is the first step in LS swap wiring. I made it as simple as it could be. When I get a chance to do another video on this subject, I'll step up the difficulty level a notch.
great info will get a 5.3 with all the stuff needed to get it to work like you did. tks a lot

Awesome! Glad to hear it Gerry! Good luck!
So I commented a few months ago asking questions about a 5.3 complete with wiring harness and I planned on swapping it into my c10. I saw the video and got bored, so brought the engine to my apartment house at school. Started it in my driveway after a buddy with HP tuners pulled out the VATS for me. Had a spare walbro hanging around and it did the trick. Just need to find a trans that will work and the swap will start!
