    I love what the Carribean has to offer when it comes to Platanos or in Ingles Plantains. Cuba is Fufú 🇨🇺 Dominican Republic is Mangú🇩🇴 and Puerto Rico is Mofongo 🇵🇷 that's is some real Carribean dishes. GOD BLESS THE CARRIBEAN!!

    • @Aprilbird1991
      @Aprilbird1991 6 месяцев назад

      Hey actually for us dominicans is mofongo as well since the preparation from mangu differs, mangu is mashed plantains previously boiled in water while mofongo is mashed plantains in a pilon previously fried while you can add meat, garlic, oil etc to mofongo, mangu is good with butter and oil and can also be made with ripe plantains which is sweeter and softer

    • @dmvme
      @dmvme 5 месяцев назад +1

      @@Aprilbird1991It’s not, mofongo is originally from Puerto Rico. I don’t know where the misconception is coming from or if this is on purpose, but mofongo originated in Puerto Rico as mangu originated in Dominican Republic. You can easily find this information online or books.

      TRAS LAS HUELLAS DEL MOFONGO PUERTORRIQUEÑO … Anteriormente compartimos unas recetas de MOFONGO que se publicaron en 1859 (hace 163 años) en el antiguo libro titulado EL COCINERO PUERTORRIQUEÑO. Ahora encontramos otra referencia antigua de NUESTRO MOFONGO y se la queremos compartir …
      En 1870 el español JOSÉ MARÍA GUTIÉRREZ DE ALBA visitó Puerto Rico (que por lo que cuenta, la pasó MUY bien) y otros países del Nuevo Mundo, al tiempo del regreso a su país, publicó sus experiencias. Estando en Puerto Rico nos describe una comida que preparaban y consumían los negros en esa época … ¿su nombre? ¡MOFONGO! …
      Esto dice: “SANTIAGO ANDRADE es un negro retinto, joven, vigoroso, de no escasa inteligencia y de modales finos en su clase. Ejerce el oficio de CARPINTERO; es un buen muchacho, y las negrillas todas le ponían buena cara, en cuanto dependía de ellas. Los demás jóvenes de color eran también ARTESANOS en su mayor parte”.
      “ANDRADE estuvo con nosotros agasajador y en extremo obsequioso, hasta el punto de invitarnos a que bailásemos con las negritas, cosa en ellos no muy frecuente" ... "sirvióse también una especie de empanadillas, que dijeron ser de carne, Y UN GUISADO ESPECIAL con mucha salsa, formado de plátanos y carnes diferentes, constituyendo todo una masa, hecha sin duda en almirez o mortero, en que las sustancias batidas y mezcladas adquieren la consistencia de una masa dura, de la cual hacen bolas del tamaño y forma de un huevo de pava. Esto lo sirven en platos hondos con una cantidad de salsa (caldo) considerable, y muy caliente, Y LE DAN EL NOMBRE DE MOFONGO”
      ¡DESDE HACE MÁS DE 150 AÑOS! Ahí lo tienen, VIVITO Y COLEANDO.
      EL MOFONGO … ¡ES PUERTORRIQUEÑO!
      MARZO ... MES DE NUESTRA RICA HERENCIA AFRICANA🇵🇷🇵🇷🇵🇷🇵🇷🇵🇷🥳

    👋❤😁 A Boricua here! I agree with perfuming the olive oil with garlic. Let that oil and garlic dance a passionate tango in the ollita or salten (small pot or pan). I add salt to my garlic and oil, and while mashing, I add cilantrillo, (cilantro) and very crunchy chicharron. Love it with ox tail!😁👍👋😊

    Soy dominicano y admito que este es un plato puertoriqueño, pero, pero los dominicanos los adoptamos como un plato local. Es igual que los guandules. Los guandules guisados es un plato dominicano adoptado perfectamente por los boricuas tambien. No le veo nada mal a esto. A mi me gusta el mofongo tradicional, o sea de chicharrones.

      No puede ser un plato local porque es de Puerto Rico. Nosotros hacemos mangu, pero jamás diríamos “mangu puertorriqueño” o lo haríamos un plato “local” porque es una falta de respeto. El mofongo es un plato cultural importante para los puertorriqueños, igual que el mangu para los dominicanos. Los gandules guisados no son un plato nacional para nosotros, el arroz con gandules sí, que también se originó en Puerto Rico.

    In the northern Caribbean Coast of Colombia we have a similar dish to mofongo but instead of frying the plantains they are boiled. We mash the plantains, gently fry some chopped garlic and onion, add some chicharrón, mix all the ingredients together, make balls with all that mix and we call it, get ready for the funny name, cabeza de gato (cat's head) or cayeye. This recipe is made in Córdoba and Sucre, northern Caribbean Colombian coast.

    I’m going to try this recipe for
    My Haitian husband and see if he likes it. Do Dominicans typically eat it as is or do
    They add a meat or fish on the side?

    Por Fin!!! PuertoRicans need to understand we make Mofongo also!! Ok y’all claim it as yours but we make it too! Magu is Something else! But I see some people not getting that we share the same cuisine

      It's still a Puerto Rican dish just cause yall cook it don't mean it's yours,but it's awesome yalk like hour mofongo so much.

      @@daysha583 again what doed it matter where it came from,if you wanna be technical it came from Africa,are u claiming that too?? Gatekeeping a dish that errrrrybody In the Caribbean Make it,Sooo Fall Back

    • @dmvme
      @dmvme 5 месяцев назад

      @@Fullyauto4.5That’s not how it works, every nation has their cultural dishes that represents them,
      it’s not gatekeeping is respect. We would never try to claim mangu, tacos or sushi even if we cook them. Africans don’t make mofongo, they make fufu. A quick search on the internet will give you all the information you need.

    • @dmvme
      @dmvme 5 месяцев назад

      Y’all need to understand that even if you make it it’s not “local” or “dominican mofongo” as it’s our recipe and a national dish for our country as is mangu for DR. We can’t claim dishes from other countries just because we make them. There’s a lot of dishes that Dominicans claim that are not yours.
