    Great stuff! It’s good for people to see how much work goes into just one aspect of making a bow like this

    Your attention to detail is very evident in the bows you build. Excellent job explaining your method. Thanks for sharing the information.

    Nice job on applying the skin,I've learned a lot. Thanks for the video. I Scuba dive here in Michigan and in the spring we dive among the Sturgeon on the gravel beds in the Saint Clair River up in Port Huron. I've seen dozens of them at a time. They can weigh 150 to 200 pounds and grow to 8 feet long. It makes for a unique diving experience!

      Wow, that's awesome! I bet that's an experience

    That's gorgeous waylin.
    If I were ever to try a sturgeon skin, meat or caviar I'd pay for a whole fish. Probably be thousands. But most importantly you could have a certified proxy statement of where it came from.
    I've had sturgeon swim and bump my legs while out duck hunting in the snake river in Idaho. I was in my waist boots and felt something bump my legs, Olney to realize there was a 6 ft fish within arms length. Modern dinosaurs in my back yard.

      Thank you. They really are amazing animals. They definitely have a prehistoric vibe to them.

    I have been sitting on a pair of skins you sent me over two years ago. I finally decided on the project and have a heat treated pyramid sinew backed hickory bow ready for skinning. I will probably watch the video a few more times as I screw my courage to the sticking point before I undertake the skins. I'd hate to mess up the project at this point. Do you recommend final tillering BEFORE or AFTER adding the fish skins? And thanks for all you do to share your hard earned experience with the rest of us in the bow making community.

    Have you used any other glues underneath sturgeon skin backings? Trying to think what else would let the black dye still 'pop' through.

    Are the scuts still in the skin ? Bonny thing?

    Where do you get the sturgeon skin?

    How do you get those snakey staves? Also I see a lot of snakey Osage; are there other woods that snake like that?

    • @SwiftwoodBows
      @SwiftwoodBows  3 года назад

      If you talk to guys that process a lot of staves they usually have a few snakey ones. I'm sure it happens sometimes in other woods but it seems more common in Osage for some reason, plus Osage can handle the extra character and still be a solid bow whereas other woods might struggle to hold up.

      thanks for the connect, looking at reproducing the cherokee bow that’s an inch wide. i’m making in red oak as a first one and maple as a second even have cherry but it’s milled with no sap wood.
      any recommendations on how to chase the ring on white woods or red oak where there lots of feathering n what not. perhaps you may offer different sizes for each species as your wood is the best.

      Hmm, sorry you're having trouble hearing it. It sounds fine when I play it on my devices. I wonder what the issue is. I'll try to get some captions up for it soon.

      @@SwiftwoodBows Seems like the mic position affects the volume. 0:21 is a good example, the audio becomes very clear when your head points down. The collar might be muffling the mic slightly. I just turned up the volume and could hear you fine. Beautiful bow and helpful video by the way!
