      So far, the workload is quite manageable and the classes are quite fun; I enjoy the challenge.
      The only problem is that the teachers will expect the best from you- the teachers probably won't be as impressed as standard class teachers if you put 110% into an assignment; it's basically expected of you.

      I probably will join honors course in all subjects in high school (I’m in middle school) and in honors for ELA and double honors in math. There’s no honors in social studies nor science in my middle school.

    You forgot to mention the overall environment of the class. In honors classes, everything feels so much more smooth and students are not as distracting as in regular classes. Of course, this depends on the school.

    The honors courses at my school are still weighted at 4.5, so that downside isn’t as significant, and another thing, many AP classes at my school have honors classes as prerequisites for them. So in some cases, honors is great.

    • @YouTubeSchooling
      @YouTubeSchooling  2 года назад +1

      100%! Every system is slightly different. It’s all about finding the most logical path. A 4.5 weighting is a huge perk

    • @thewordrules
      @thewordrules Год назад +1

      I agree. Everything I've read says an A in an honor's class has a gpa weight of 4.5. A B =3.5 Interesting note: my sister taught school for 37 years and she said an honors science or math class means "they finish the whole book" as usually only about 3/4 of a text is finished. In Mi you earn a credit if at least 3/4 of a text is completed.

    I moved high schools at the end of 10th grade and in the new high school, I got enrolled in all honors classes and the one thing I can say is that the classes are “easier” in my opinion because because the distractions are minimized. Although, next year I’m taking AP physics and precalculus which has me so nervous cuz I rlly wanted to just have an easy last year of high school. 😭

    honors classes only weighing on a 4.0 scale seems like a giant red flag for that school system, a honors course and a cp course should not be the same level of difficulty and thus should not be weighed the same, ap courses are, at least in my area, weighed on something like a 6.0 scale so the fact that there is that difference seems crazy

    When I was teaching high school math, they stuck me with three regular geometry classes and one honors geometry.
    Frankly, I followed the same basic lesson plan for all the classes as there was not any special honors book or anything.
    I did require more and harder proofs, and a few test questions were more difficult, and the grading was stricter, but the classes were eventually the same.

    • @123ucr
      @123ucr Год назад

      When I took Honors Geometry in my freshman year of high school, the Honors Geometry class required more homework and the homework was slightly harder than the regular Geometry class. For starters, the regular Geometry class required an average of 12-15 problems a day, while the Honors Geometry was 15-20 problems a day and this was either from the textbook or worksheets. On top of that, Honors Geometry had more proofs (particularly with triangle congruence[ASA,AAS, SAS,SSS] and some trigonometric proofs) and more trigonometry (For example, the Honors Geometry class wanted the students to learn the law of sines and cosines, solve basic trigonometric equations and graph more advanced trigonometric (e.g., inverse trigonometric functions) plus vectors/scalars while the regular geometry class did not). In addition, at the very end of Honors Geometry, the class was introduced to conics but at a basic level. The regular Geometry class did not teach conics; you would have to wait until Algebra 2. Plus, the tests were slightly harder than the regular Geometry class but was based on the homework. If you did well on the homework and practiced hard enough, the exams will be a piece of cake. The point is that Honors Geometry was harder than regular geometry but taking it was totally worth it and prepared me for higher math classes (e.g., Honors Algebra 2 and Trigonometry, Honors Precalculus, AP Statistics, Calculus 1-3*, Linear Algebra*, Differential Equations*) The latter classes I took in College.

    • @YouTubeSchooling

      8th grade honors is harder than usual but tbh I recommend taking honors in middle school. It helps you prepare for high school/ college classes

  • @SierNotsruht
    @SierNotsruht Год назад

    Something important to note about honors is that often you do need to have taken advanced/accelerated classes in middle school to get in them, this means that what you do in middle school can effect high school and even what college you get into. It isn't fair, but that's how it is.

    Honors classes be a class where they go fast but not too fast and instead have more in-depth about the logic behind any subject. Besides, my honors classes are going up to a GPA 4.5 but I do not know if I wanna take AP math in 10th grade or not while other subjects are just two years in honors and then AP (ELA could be complicated for me about taking honors for three years and then go to AP or just stick to honors for high school)

      My high school restricted freshman from taking AP classes. 10th grade, the only AP classes you can take are in history/social studies (except for Economics). 11th grade, (you can take AP Chemistry or AP Biology if you did well in Chemistry and Biology [preferably if they were honor classes]. and AP Calculus AB and BC if you took Pre-calculus in 10th grade (For AP Calculus BC, you have to take take Honors Precalculus in 10th and then AP Calculus AB your first semester or 11th or 12th grade to be eligible). Also, in 11th grade and even 12th grade, you can take AP Language and Composition but not AP Literature and Composition (you have to be in 12th grade). I took AP Language and Composition in 12th grade but not literature and composition.
