    The line that always stuck out to me is when the forward air controller says, "they've got a clearer view of the situation then we do, they know what they're asking.". They knew that they were most likely gonna die, but they couldn't live with leaving a fellow soldier to certain death if there was anything they could do to prevent it. There are ppl who will die for you and ppl who will die with you and Shugart and Gordon fit into both of those categories which makes them truly exceptional soldiers and men.

    Some extra information.
    There was a third Delta operator with Shugart and Gordon that day. Sergeant First Class Brad Halling provided sniper cover in the Blackhawk when Durant crashed. As they waited for permission to go in, their helicopter also was hit, wounding one of the crew-chiefs. Taking control of one of the M134 mini-guns Halling stayed with the Blackhawk while his two comrades went in. Shortly afterwards, Halling's helicopter, Super Six-Two was struck by an RPG the cabin. The explosion took off Halling's left leg above the knee. Super Six Two managed to return to base. Initially Halling was to be discharged for his wound. He refused it, even petitioning the Army to reverse the decision. It was granted. Not only did Halling stay in the Army, within two years he was swimming and running and skiing. He was even put back on airborne status. Doing twenty years in the Army he retired in 2000, with the rank of sergeant-major.
    SPC John Grimes (Ewan Gregor) is based on SPC John Stebbins, who earned the Silver Star Medal in Mogadishu. This change came because Stebbins was convicted and sent to prison for thirty years for child rape.
    Rocket Propelled Grenades, mostly from RPG-7s, they don't travel that slowly as portrayed here. In real life you blink and you miss it. They are slowed down for the movie for the audience to understand what's going on.
    A soldier having an RPG lodged in him is Pfc. Richard Wayne Kowalewski Jr. The rocket also amputated his left arm. He was only twenty-years old.
    Othic, "but I'm shot, colonel" is Pvt. Clay Othic who was one of the first casualties of the operation, being shot in the right forearm, breaking the bone.
    The actor who played Maddox, McKnight's driver, was Michael Roof. Sadly, he committed suicide in 2009.
    Colonel Danny McKnight (Tom Sizemore) was wounded in the neck and arm during the operation.
    All of Durant's crew survived the crash, although all are wounded. When Shugart and Gordon reached them, the two Delta operators moved them about to form a perimeter, distributed weapons and ammunition. When the site was overrun those that remained were killed by the mob.

    One of the things I’ve noticed, besides the fact that delta force prefers to use hockey helmets (a direct shot from an AK, or m16, will penetrate your standard metal helmet)
    As well as wearing roller skating knee and elbow pads so if they need hit the deck they can.
    Is the radio equipment, the microphones on the delta force guys.
    The ability to communicate and coordinate, in warfare. Yeah, that’s gives you a bit of an edge.

    The commanding unit didn't expect the resistance was so strong, so this was a great strategical mistake. If there were some gunboats and Apaches, the operation should be more successful.

    This movie had an all star cast didn’t it… even some of the non main characters… Orlando Bloom, Tom Hardy, among others, lots of depth to the overall cast.

    • @DestinyAwaits19
      @DestinyAwaits19 7 месяцев назад +3

      That's what gives it its staying power. As well as the action. If the cast remained unknown then the movie would be confusing as to whose who, but since most of the actors got famous, its easier to identify each soldier.

      @@simonphoenix3789 At the beginning, but when they took over China and other empires, they got their soldiers. The Chinese were and always have been awful at warfare. Notice that whenever the Mongols fought anyone competent, they got rocked. In Japan, supposedly a storm wiped out their fleet...in Europe, supposedly Ogodei's death caused them to end their campaign there. The Mongols were basically stat-padders who couldn't beat anyone decent. If China was more competent as a military, they might have stayed in Mongolia with the sheep and remained poor raiders.
