  • PREX 3001 and PREX 2026, both ex ATSF GP20 locomotives work on the Napoleon Defiance and Western Railroad. On this April day I filmed them pulling empty boxcars from one of the cold storage warehouses in Napoleon Ohio. The warehouses receive tomato paste which is trucked across the river to the Campbell's soup factory. I then followed the train west as far as Okolona. The track has seen many ties replaced in Napoleon since the last time I filmed here. Also in Okolona the switch to the grain mill has been removed on the west end. They are still connected on the east end but I haven't seen the receive cars recently.

Very nice drone shots near the warehouse and along the road and farm fields. How do you get the drone to pace the train? Does the drone have a sensor for that based on the camera image, or do you set that based on what you see in the camera feed?

@@animalou812 I have multiple photos from back in the IHRC days when the tomato paste came in via Woodburn in refrigerated cars. I don't know about the NS days preceding IHRC. On IHRC the inbound cars would often come in at levels that required multiple switches to push the cars through the warehouses. As I recall the paste was frozen in something that resembled 'paper' barrels. I have no idea when this practice reverted to insulated boxcars and then to what you see moving today.

We go from the first drone shots of an orderly clean and trash free operation to a huge junk yard in the middle of pristine fields. To top it off to the left before the siding converges with the main line, there's a huge pile of debris. That's America!
