    Very helpful video and saved me from hundreds from getting a new fob/key for my 2018 toyota camry. My keyring broke off so I was walking around with a loose key for weeks, risking losing my only key. Then I ordered a shell from ebay for $25 from someone else getting rid of their key and I put my key inside. That button part got tricky but this video did the trick. So thankful! It's like I have a brand new key now.

    This is a life saver. Both my original and spare key on my Ranger T6 had the release button broken and key wouldn't open. I bought a chinese case from ebay for 3 bucks (dollars) to fix one key and it worked perfectly, so after a while I bought a second one to fix my spare key. The only difference is that the key cases I bought didn't came with the screw, just clips in.
    Also, I took off the blade on my old keys and put it into the hinge mechanism of the new key. The key blade is held by a small pin that you can drive out with a very small punch and rubber mallet. Did it, and I didn't have to cut a new key blade. To drive the pin in after replacing the blade is kind of tricky, but if you are good working with your hands or have a little bit of experience as a mechanic, you can figure it out and it pushes right in and the key blade will be secured and won't fall out.

    Most helpful. Being an east coast Scot, too mean to pay for a key cutting, swapped old C-Max key blade into new case. Required 1.5 mm drill to use as a drift to release and replace the roll pin and a file down of 0.2mm from the shank of the old blade to let it fit into the knuckle. All good.

    Great video. I done the same for my c-max but converted from a normal 3 button key to a flip key. Little bit fiddly swapping circuit board and battery terminals around but easy enough. Got blade cut from an independent auto key cutter for £12. Replica case was £5 off internet. Anyone wanting to do this don't bother with timpsons they won't cut the blade.

    • @TheCarKeyMan
      @TheCarKeyMan  6 лет назад

      Hi Thomas. It's good that you got the blade cut, swapping them over can be a a bit of a pain. Yes, some shops get a bit funny about cutting other peoples keys.
      I think it's because if they mess it up, they can't just one to replace it easily. Whereas if they mess their own up, they can just get another off the shelf.
      Thanks for the feedback :)

      Hello Robert, it's a great question, with a simple answer. The replacement flip part has been designed to work with the supplied case.
      The case has been designed and made in a different factory and so although the parts all work fine, the insides are different.
      Of all the cases I've seen, the flip parts cannot be swapped about, sorry!

    • @TheCarKeyMan
      @TheCarKeyMan  5 лет назад

      Hi Robert. Basically, the new flip part has been matched to the new case. But this is different to the original Ford key. If Ford made a replacement case, that was made in the same style as the original, you could swap it fine

    • @FinnBob1
      @FinnBob1 5 лет назад

      @@TheCarKeyMan Hi again! I bought two new aftermarket cases because both of my original ones had broken in the same way. I got a locksmith to cut one key for a whopping 30€ (Finnish prices...). For the second key, I had nothing to lose by filing down the old blade (width and length) to make it fit. Filing took just a few minutes and it works just fine. Of course, you need to knock out and replace the little pin that holds the blade. So the upshot of this is that, if you don't want to pay exorbitant locksmith rates, simply file down the old blade. Thankfully I didn't get two new blades cut. :-)

    After watching this video. It is indeed possible to just repair the original key.
    Dismantle the key as shown. Remove the broken off piece from the button. Reassemble with the key in the closed position.
    Turn the back cover three times anti clockwise making sure the spring stays located. This puts pretension on the spring to flick the key.
    Hold the two halves of the key tightly and press the button. The key should flick out as it's supposed to.
    Now all you need to do is super glue the two halves back together and clamp it together for an hour or so before putting the battery back in.
    Fixed.

    • @TheCarKeyMan
      @TheCarKeyMan  9 месяцев назад

      Hi, yes its possible, but it depends on the state of your old key. It will save you a bit of money using the old key, as long as you’re happy with it that way.

  • @panhardrod

    Just a note to prospective key dismantlers. The original ford key here will not snap back together, and does not have a screw in the battery compartment, it needs glueing.

      Oh No! Are you in the UK? It sounds like the chip has been damaged when you've opened it up. If you want to call us it's 01522 514141.

      @@TheCarKeyMan Nope, someone had previously opened it and messed with it. The spring was not set correctly. I stretched the spring a little and twisted it an extra turn. Works perfectly now!
