Let me first say, "Que bella" you are truly beautiful.. what mom would say, "a Natural beauty" and I love your humorous and serious personality. I am mixed, Puerto Rican, Haitian and Taino. At the age of 9 we went to Puerto Rico and mom introduced us to her family who were black and I asked, why was I lighter, and she stated because she was mixed as well. I had the pleasure of meeting the most beautiful relatives in so many flavors. The reason I bring this up is because of your accent, are you mixed as well? There is Dupe for that $166 it's only $24 Dr. Brenner Vitamin C serum with E Ferulic Acid. I bought this 6 months ago, still good, almost empty and very little change in it's clear color. My Skin has a less dull and brighter complexion. I recently bought the Ordinary Buffet which I use after washing with my CeraVe Renewing SA Cleanser. Can I apply Dr. Brenner's Vitamin C E Ferulic? Also there is a new KID on the block, that is suppose to be better than Ordinary Buffet, Buffet and Copper Peptides, Matrixyl, and the Argireline, called Hylamide SubQ Skin. Any thoughts on this product?
Vitamin C We get most of our vitamin C from diet, but only a small percentage makes its way to our skin. That's why topical vitamin C is important to feed our skin. □ How does Vitamin C help? 1. Antioxidant: Something that helps to block oxidative stress. Oxidative stress is the world, pollution and sun which breaks down the collagen. But vitamin C neutralizes that, so collagen won't break as fast. It also helps to make your sunscreen work better because it decreases sun damage. It's a great adjunct to sunscreen. 2. It boosts collagen production. Because vitamin C is a cofactor for two enzymes Lysylhydroxylase and prolylhydroxylase. These are needed to cross-link collagen. 3. Vitamin C evens out pigmentation. It eats up the copper which is used in the reaction to make melanin. ● 2 forms of Vitamin C: 1. Active: L-Ascorbic acid (8-20%) : Very unstable in high temp, High pH, Oxygen. Not ideal for oily, acne-prone skin. Use 10% if you have sensitive skin. Vitamin E and Ferulic acid stabilizes it. Recommendation- CeraVe skin renewing Vitamin C serum, L'Oreal Paris Revitalift derm intensives vitamin C serum treatment. 2. Inactive: Also known as esters, get activated on skin, more stable, tend to penetrate skin better (was tested in vitro, not in vivo). Most fav - Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate: As beneficial as Ascorbic Acid. Good choice for acne-prone skin (1-5%). Recommendation- No 7 protect & perfect intense advanced serum. Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate: • Most stable. ANTIOXIDANT PROPERTIES ARE IFFY • POOR ABSORPTION WHICH MAKES IT A BETTER CHOICE FOR SENSITIVE SKIN Recommendation- Glossier Super Glow Vitamin C + Magnesium serum. ASCORBYL GLUCOSIDE: Shows Similar benefits to Ascorbic Acid in vitro. •MORE STUDIES NEEDED IN VIVO Recommendation- The ordinary Ascorbyl Glucoside solution 12% Ascorbyl Palmitate: Basically useless. Tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate is a stable, oil-soluble form of Vitamin C. It's known for its ability to penetrate the skin more effectively compared to regular ascorbic acid, allowing it to reach deeper layers. This ingredient is often used in skincare products for its antioxidant properties, helping to brighten skin, reduce signs of aging, and protect against environmental damage. Beware if you have sensitive skin. It's a winner but very expensive.
Watched your video and so happy to discover that the product I bought on a whim has the last “winner” kind you mentioned. Its by Shea Moisture, Brighter Days Ahead Serum and did not break the bank
The Ordinary Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate: good for sensitive skin, antioxidant and not as expensive as other serums (although it is expensive even for The Ordinary)
Great video, as basically all your videos! I’ve just recently discovered your channel, and I’m very happy I did. Clear, detailed, fact based information. That’s what people need. Well done! ☺️ Concerning Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate, I’m currently using one of Medik8 vitamin C serums (C-Tetra) that uses exactly this version of vitamin C, but is relatively cheap compared to the products you mentioned (49€). Do you know the product? Would you say it’s not very good quality, or the low price is a hint to the fact that the concentration is too low?
I have recently found you and love your videos. You are my kind of person!! But I have a question about vitamin c and glycolic acid. I use glycolic acid in the morning, but I understand that I shouldn't use vitamin c with it?
Thank you, always very usefull! Actually I bought perricone Md esther vitamin c brightening serum and it contains tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate not ascorbil palmitate as you say in the video. Maybe they changed the formulation????
What are your thoughts on the ordinary retinols and L’Oréal and ROC retinols ? I’m looking for the best over the counter one, that actually works on a budget😆 hate wasting money on bs fake products too ! Thx girl ! Happy new year 🎆
You can get Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate Solution 20% in Vitamin F from the Ordinary for $17.80/Canadian, just giving you my 2 cents and I do love it (The ingredients are as follows: Coconut Alkanes, Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate, Ethyl Linoleate, Coco-Caprylate/Caprate, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Solanum Lycopersicum (Tomato) Fruit Extract, Squalane.
I know this is an older video but I wonder what you think about Maelove The Glow Maker w Vitamins C (15% L-ascorbic acid), E and Ferulic Acid. The price is much better than SkinCeuticals and appears to be a decent lower priced dupe.
Please can you make a video about Paula's choice 25% vitamin c & glutathione serum and how that will effect our skin based on your professional opinion. You've mentioned anything over 20% vitamin C is too much for our skin. I keep coming across brands that make higher percentage vitamin C products. I work at cosmetics/skincare sales department and I love educating customers on these things. Please please please help me help them. Thank you ❤
How does the formula of Timeless Skincare 20% Vitamin C +Ferulic Acid + Vitamin E stack up against Skin Ceuticals? It’s much more affordable and seems really similar!
What do you think about Drunk Elephant Vitamin C Serum and Timeless (the latter is supposed to be a dupe of SC, but, frankly, doesn't oxidize as quickly as the Skinceuticals)? Thank you, great video!!!
@@eafafeayd I did. I don't approach the topic emotionally. I want the competent derm's opinion, and not about the company, but rather about the product's efficacy/ingredients compared to other products.
I read that Drunk Elephant had to change their vitamin C serum formula, because it was very similar to SC. It seems SC has their formula patented and sued DE. So long story short, DE had to reformulate the serum and it is not as good since then. I’ve read a lot of reviews from a lot of different sites, and majority of people did see a change from the old formula to de new one. They all say is not as good as it was at the beginning. This happened around 2018/2019, not sure they already reached a settlement though. But the info is on the internet if you want more deets. Personally, I have tried de DE (2019) and I am currently using SC, and l do find SC superior, it feels different and you see real results. Not sure what I am going to do to keep buying it but I refuse to stop using it. It’s just amazing. I think there are better options than DE after they apparently changed something in their formula.
@@ibarbie_1127 I am actually looking for an opinion re the product quality, pros and cons. I wouldn't want to drug any legal matters into this discussion.
Dr. Idriss, It looks like Dermalogica BioLumin-C Serum's contains aminopropyl ascorbyl phosphate, not magnesium ascorbyl phosphate, like you mentioned. Do you think AAP is appropriate for dry, sensitive skin like MAP? What do you think of AAP? I want to use an effective form of vitamin C, however, ascorbic acid and TETRAHEXYLDECYL ASCORBATE are too drying and irritating. Thank you very much! I love you and I have learned so much from you!
Doc you are too much fun! Such a good way to explain things 👌🏻 kudos! Question..what about Ethyl Ascorbic Acid? What's the difference ? Is it good or useless lol?
I am so confuseeed. I’m the first 2 minutes this dermatologist states that vitamin c has a ton of studies that speak to its efficacy. Yet, I’ve been following dr dray for years and she has said multiple times she doesn’t use vitamin c because there are no studies proving its efficacy. So which one is it someone please ???
And La Roche Posay Pure Vit C serum - would u recommend it? It is one of the instable one? Thank you and please make a video about the in depth mosturizing lesson :)
Dr.Dray says it don't have enough studies showing it actually gets into the skin, thats y she don't use it n has videos about vit c. So if it don't absorb does it still help under sunscreen?

what are your thoughts on ordinary’s l-ascorbic acid 8%+alpha arbutin 2%?
I don't know her opinion, but it's been really helpful with my acne marks :)
I have this one, I would like to know too.
@@laya1901 thanks for the reply! do you use it in AM routine?
@@eafafeayd Yes!
@@laya1901 did you get breakouts? and did it make your face reddish 😅 how long did u use it? i have so many questions😂
ugh when she said “and masary” at 14:31 i died 🥺🥺🥺 arabs unite for our dr. idriss
That was everything 😂🤑
Your so funny and I actually learned something….
I love the beauty pie 10% vitamin c capsules, with vitamin E and individually packaged so they are more stable.
I really love the one from Geek&Gorgeous, they make it fresh before they send it to you !
It is the bomb! And so cheap!!!
That is the percentage of vitamin C in Geek and Gorgeous serum? Thank you.
@@hummingbird7286 15% +fer.acid + vit.e
ive used half of the bottle by now but it stings a little bit sometimes for a short while after application. idk if the ascorbic acid is too much for my skin as they also say on their website that it can irritate sensitive skin. not sure what to replace it with or if i should try using it every other day or something.. otherwise i love it for the ingredients and price
I saw zero results from that one
Great video! Helpful, systematized, well explained...just 10/10!
I find it so helpful thank you so much for your help, i'm 26 years old a bit late to introduce vitaline c to my skincare routine but now that i have a clear idea about it i ll defenitely do it . Thanks tou youuuu
Great job. Comprehensive and very practical review.
I just got one today and was excited to hear when you broke down all the different types... Only to find that the one I have is useless 😭 omg haha thank you for the info though! Super thorough and interesting!
Lol wish my teachers were this good in school I would learn a thing or two
Wish us teachers were paid nearly this much 😅
@@anditspaganpoetry while I agree teachers should get paid more your comment makes it seems that’s the only reason why teachers doesn’t connect with their students.
thank you so much for all these amazing videos and information. My understanding for skincare and ingredients is growing and i love that i can shop more consciously now
Let me first say, "Que bella" you are truly beautiful.. what mom would say, "a Natural beauty" and I love your humorous and serious personality.
Vitamin C
We get most of our vitamin C from diet, but only a small percentage makes its way to our skin.
● 2 forms of Vitamin C:
Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate:
• Most stable.
ANTIOXIDANT PROPERTIES ARE IFFY
• POOR ABSORPTION WHICH MAKES IT A BETTER CHOICE FOR SENSITIVE SKIN
Recommendation- Glossier Super Glow Vitamin C + Magnesium serum.
ASCORBYL GLUCOSIDE:
Shows Similar benefits to Ascorbic Acid in vitro.
•MORE STUDIES NEEDED IN VIVO
Recommendation- The ordinary Ascorbyl Glucoside solution 12%
Ascorbyl Palmitate: Basically useless.
Thank you so much for such an informative video!
Watched your video and so happy to discover that the product I bought on a whim has the last “winner” kind you mentioned. Its by Shea Moisture, Brighter Days Ahead Serum and did not break the bank
Thank you for these. Cheers from Tunisia
The Ordinary Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate: good for sensitive skin, antioxidant and not as expensive as other serums (although it is expensive even for The Ordinary)
Okey now I need a consultation 😀
Great video, as basically all your videos! I’ve just recently discovered your channel, and I’m very happy I did. Clear, detailed, fact based information. That’s what people need. Well done! ☺️
Concerning Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate, I’m currently using one of Medik8 vitamin C serums (C-Tetra) that uses exactly this version of vitamin C, but is relatively cheap compared to the products you mentioned (49€). Do you know the product? Would you say it’s not very good quality, or the low price is a hint to the fact that the concentration is too low?
Are any of the products mentioned safe to use for people with rosacea?
I have recently found you and love your videos. You are my kind of person!! But I have a question about vitamin c and glycolic acid. I use glycolic acid in the morning, but I understand that I shouldn't use vitamin c with it?
Biossance's Vitamin C + Squalane Oil has Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate, if anyone is looking for another option.
Wow! Thank u for always sharing your knowledge. I often hear abt Drunk Elephant's Vit C. I'm surprised u didn't mention it.
Glow recipe has a vitamin C serum ( containing THD Ascorbate ) for $45
the body shop vitamins c line has tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate ! Non affiliated comment haha, I just got it after watching your video :)
Can you go further into detail about why Vit C isn't ideal for oily skin?
Thank you! Love you!
Thank you ❤
Your skin is glorious🥰
So glad I found this/ Subscribed, coming from another artist
How does the formula of Timeless Skincare 20% Vitamin C +Ferulic Acid + Vitamin E stack up against Skin Ceuticals? It’s much more affordable and seems really similar!
Just as good but the bottle leaks sometimes.
@@traceytrotter9934 Have you tried both?
What do you think about Drunk Elephant Vitamin C Serum and Timeless (the latter is supposed to be a dupe of SC, but, frankly, doesn't oxidize as quickly as the Skinceuticals)? Thank you, great video!!!
Interested in feedback on Drunk Elephant as well.
you should watch the video of @cassandrabankson about drunk elephant 😅
Can u talk about vitamin E in skin products?
Hi, i love your knowledge & your personality. I was wondering what do you think of the Perricone MD vitamin c ester brightening serum!
Timeless produce an L-Ascorbic acid with E and Ferulic acid for less than $30
Thanks. Very interesting.
So..I should put my vitamin c serum in the refrigerator??
Hello Shereen thanks for your help. Is La Roche posay pure vitamin C 10% a good choice?
Medik8 c tetra also contains tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate
Doc you are too much fun! Such a good way to explain things 👌🏻 kudos! Question..what about Ethyl Ascorbic Acid? What's the difference ? Is it good or useless lol?
thanks for this! what is your opinion on la roche posay vitamin C products?
Hi Dr Shereene, what about ethyl ascorbic acid? Where does it fit into the the hierarchy?
Thanks lots Doctor
Which one is best for dry skin????
I am so confuseeed. I’m the first 2 minutes this dermatologist states that vitamin c has a ton of studies that speak to its efficacy. Yet, I’ve been following dr dray for years and she has said multiple times she doesn’t use vitamin c because there are no studies proving its efficacy. So which one is it someone please ???
What Dr Dray said is that while there are studies done on topical vit c, they are not “rigorous blinded placebo controlled clinical trials”.
Different doctors have different opinions.
And La Roche Posay Pure Vit C serum - would u recommend it? It is one of the instable one? Thank you and please make a video about the in depth mosturizing lesson :)
why do other sites claim the opposite? saying ATIP is better than THDA? Also, what are your thoughts on Ethylated Ascorbic Acid?
Dr.Dray says it don't have enough studies showing it actually gets into the skin, thats y she don't use it n has videos about vit c. So if it don't absorb does it still help under sunscreen?
Respect and like your channel.
Thank you! Well explained
great video, is it okay to apply on damp skin
I know this is an older video, but do you have thoughts on DRMTLGY vitamin C (& their sunscreen for that matter)?
