Uncomfortable Oscars Speeches That Made Audiences Squirm

- Опубликовано: 28 фев 2018
- Making the perfect Oscar speech is tough. Even if you’ve mentally rehearsed the speech for years, there are so many people to thank.
Some, like Joe Pesci, have opted to keep their speeches extremely short, while others have gone on a bit and made some people wonder what was going on. On occasion, a star will make the audience outright uncomfortable, although, in the case of a few winners, that was their goal.
From the recent infamous Best Picture mix-up to the controversial director who received a lifetime achievement award, let’s take a look at some of the most uncomfortable Oscar speeches of all time.

What's your favorite moment from any award show?
Nicki Swift your content is so rich, I subbed
Ricky Gervais presenting the Golden Globes the first time when he took the piss out of all the stars sitting at the tables, stars who weren't there, and Scientology, the homosexuality of Tom Cruise and John Travolta, etc. ruclips.net/video/mXQShfw0EKg/видео.html
Nicki Swift. I don't watch award shows. 🤢
I stopped watching them when they became political. Actors wanna be politicians. And it is not about the best man winning, it is "we need more black people to win, or more women, or more gays".
In my opinion the best person should win.
And all the Trump bashing. What a farce.
The worst speech? Gotta be De Niro with his 5 year old boyish speech ruclips.net/video/JKud4Im6x0U/видео.html
Nicki Swift when it's over.
“we lost by the way”

That was the producers of La la Land
Me
I kind of felt sorry for Warren Beatty the way LaLa Land producers whipped that thing from his hand
I’m wondering if some of them had seen the erroneous envelope and tried to ignore the mistake so that they could get away with mistakenly winning
That refusal to accept an oscar by the native american woman is the coolest oscar moment ever. Marlon Brando was the man!
Communist Mutants From Space unfortunately if you research what he did to his costar in last tango in Paris you'll realize he isn't that wonderful
aoggrta74 do you know what you're talking about ?
aoggrta74 Their land keeps getting stolen. Haven't you heard about their protest recently?
Sofia CM It's bullshit and you know it
Just no. Glad they booed at her, pc culture has no place in the Oscars.
the marlon brando native american one wasn't cringey at all.. it was inspiring and very much needed.
Extra cringe and fake.
Ishani Trzaska I think what made it cringey was the booing. Seeing how horribly people responded to it makes me cringe for sure!
SixPack Shakur (Rep5281) how tf is it fake
exactly what i was going to say
I agree, not uncomfortable at all
There was nothing CRINGEWORTHY about Marlon Brando having that native lady decline that award for him. I wish celebrities today had the INTEGRITY to do something like that. But I know it would NEVER happen.
Jen Lee
I agree..not cringeworthy but beautiful 💖
michał Dobrzyniuk Many Mexican can trace their roots back to Native Americans.
Because celebrities that are too in love with themselves and being loved by everyone.
What you are saying is that every actor shall have an errand guy who does this sort of things
Jen Lee native mesoamerican*
I can't believe people reacted like that about the Native American woman. People are and have been so heartless about the well being of native indigenous people. It's like their lives don't even matter to anyone. It is despicable. Kudos to Marlon Brandon for what he did.
Native Americans are not forced to live on a reservations. They are afforded seperate laws and protections from the rest of us. They are the largest private land owners in America despite only being 2% of the population. They are not persecuted. They're just a defeated people riding on the guilt of naive Americans. Conquest is apart of every culture, even theirs. They are not innocent just salty
@@TheAskthelonely49 you sound like a defeated salty person. I feel sorry for you.
Still believe in the noble savage , eh?
@Aquinasish Why past 20 years when that literally happened over 40 years ago?
So sorry that native American Indians are so-mistreated. This is shameful on so many levels.
That native American woman is just... GORGEOUS
She is.

Oh thank god I thought I was the only one who said that I'm the first gay person to present in front of class.

Jolie saying she was "SO IN LOVE with her brother" has to be the most cringe worthy. Like Stephanie Seymour perving on her son..
THEDUDE
THEDUDE The reason why she seems too "affectionate" towards her brother is because the same morning her mother underwent a complicated surgery that no one else knew about, because of which she was completly broken and was just a bit relieved that at least one of her closest family members was with her, hence the affection.
Angie has bpd same as me, we feel emotions tenfold and no idea how to get them out sometimes.
When my mother passed away, I sure as hell didn't lock lips with my brother, just saying.
@@juicebox3839 So, basically, you're creepy.
little feather speaking on behalf of brando was so iconic
*moronic.
The Vicious Chicken of Bristol so glad to know you don’t mind native americans being marginalized and mistreated :) you seem sweet :)
ShelbyCates the world seriously needs more people like you.
ShelbyCates How ignorant. You know nothing about my views on native Americans. There's a time and place for this kind of protest, and an awards show is not it.
This did nothing to help the plight of the Native Americans, it just ruined the career of a nude model.
The Vicious Chicken of Bristol no
Half true on the Brando part. He was angry over what was happening at wounded knee in 73. The government still didn’t let us Indian people practice our culture and Hollywood still painted us as villains and savages in movies. It was a protest that was right.
@@xtusvincit5230 Dude everyone's ancestors are the same. Sinful people who do sinful things. We cant point at one group and say that they are any more or less sinful. That goes for old Hollywood painting Indians as only villians and new Hollywood who wants to do the with whites.
@@timriggins70 Your ideology is showing. Not all ancestors are the same just as not all people are the same. Do you think that Muslims who support terrorism are the same as nonviolent Amish? Get real.

Right?
Konsuelo Ramírez I think his heart was in the right place and I applaud him for that. I just think that he should have went about it differently

There will NEVER be another Audrey.

@@ker_possible a goddess
2:23 I have new found respect for Marlon Brando. That's a baller move.
brando was actually pretty activist, forward thinking and progressive. he scared the shit out of hollywood lol
He ruined the career of another actress he should’ve gone himself and not accepted the award
TᕼᕮᗰᕮSSIᕼᗩ There had to be a more powerful Native American to speak for Brando instead. But maybe she wasn’t pretty enough.
derwen talia Brando was an arsehole. To his family/kids, to his costars including (confirmed) raping one and to pretty much most people. He could’ve been an activist but that doesn’t make him a saint
@12345grov Well the way I see it, he gave voice to someone to speak for their own comunity. He didn't put a gun to her head and make her do it, he simply gave her the chance, and she took it. I think you're being more disrespectful to her by implying that she was not capable enough to decide for herself and to understand what she was putting up with. I mean, sure, it must be shocking and intimidating to have Marlon Brando ask you to do something like that, but she still made her own decission.
little feather accepting on Brandos behalf was the best Oscars moment ever
Refusing not accepting

Lies again? Squirt Squirm
i had no idea about Angelina and her brother...EWWWW that's gross WTF
Anny Meyer Jolie is wild. She had sex at the age of 13/14 while knives were involved because cuts and blood excite her ...
Yep, she was really creepy in her vampirina days.
Bitch its just a kiss, they are not frenchkissing... Shut your bitchass mouth
mei nopnopmo how did you know
Anny Meyer she's a disgusting woman. Plus she dresses her daughters like boys. No wonder Brad pitt left her
Didn't know Angelina had some Cersei Lannister in her
She used to be wild back then until she met Brad Pitt and then turning into some disney princess 😁 (except I still think if it's just her way trying to hide the fact that she stole Brad from Jennifer Aniston).
When I think of another actress who can play that role (which is played excellently by Lena Headey by the way), only Angelina comes to mind.
This is a VERY FUNNY BUT APPROPRIATE COMMENT 🤣
shes probably from alabama
She was HIGH AF on X according to many
Gwyneth Paltrow's speech was actually longer than "Shakespeare in Love", but with less fancy talk and surprisingly seductive 16th century nudity.
OMiGgGaWwWdDDd! That's so hilarious... And true!
Weinstein was behind the win-clearly Cate Blanchett should have won.
Her "emotional" speech was faker than Kim Kardashian's butt.
I'm still cringing!
She actually DID thank Harvey in that speech. And seeing as how she sort of WON the Oscar that year, maybe she wasn't too shabby in the role? Just a wild theory, I suppose.
I don’t think many people know where Gwyneth’s emotions were coming from. It wasn’t just the Oscar; her father had just been diagnosed with cancer. Her grandfather, who joined them at the afterparty, was terminal. Another family member had just passed away. All of that hit her at that moment. Regardless, what should it matter? She just won an Oscar. However she wants to express her feelings about the moment, she should be able to do it.
I agree! I don't think it was cringeworthy at all--she was young, was dealing with a LOT of loss, and had just won an Oscar, which is emotional in itself. Let's give the poor woman a break!
Love people like you x
I get that, but she somehow acts like she’s the only person to ever lose a family member, even now, so many years later. It’s just her attitude.
She just buy a oscar. Harvey Weinstein paid for it.
Is that guy actually Angelina's brother? cause ew
yes. they look very simliar
They did kiss each other on the lips like many other siblings or parent/child or friends duos do, some families and friends do, some don't.
A couple photographers snapped the photo in that exact time and it looks like a deep kiss, but if you would see it in video they only kiss each other's lips for one second. That and they both have voluptuous lips.
TheXalos I kiss my parents (well, only my mum) and close friends on the lips but NEVER my siblings. Maybe cheeks and forehead, but lips? Ew.
it's disgusting, would never in my life kiss my parents or siblings, that's just weird as hell..
Leijion it's only disgusting if you see it as something romantic or sexual, it's like people who think that breastfeeding in public is provocative
My favourite had to be Alfred Hitchcock’s acceptance speech. “Thank you”
I'll never understand how they gave the Oscar to Gwyneth over Fernanda Montenegro and Meryl Streep
And Cate Blanchett for Elizabeth 😌
NOBODY understood that one.
she had a thing with Weinstein so many things can sway the vote
She deserves it
Money, sex, who knows?
Marlon Brando having a native american woman accept the award is actually unbelieveably progressive for that time. It's pretty amazing. Not only did he not accept the award, but he didn't even choose to talk about it himself but had someone who ACTUALLY suffered through that stuff go up and talk. He didn't speak for them. Quite amazing honestly.
Can't watch? Tough for me too, but I made the sacrifice. Here you go:
*1. Sam Smith - 2015 Best Original Song* - Au contraire, dear Sam. Many gay men - known and unknown- have won Oscars. Ignorance is a miss.
*2. La La Land Producers - 2016 Best Picture Nominees* - Moonlight actually won leaving La La Land producers in...well...la la land.
*3. Sacheen Littlefeather for Marlon Brandon - 1973 Best Actor* - She held her hand up to an offended Roger Moore basically telling Hollywood to keep the little golden idol that they worship and treat Native Americans right. Thank you Sir Brando for sending your memorable minion.
*4. Gwyneth Paltrow - 1999 Best Actress* - weep, cry, sniff, snort, ugh. Cate Blanchett in Elizabeth was outstanding - grrrr!!!
*5. Elinor Burkett - 2009 Best Documentary, Short Subject* - Ahhhh. Kanye West must have been so damn proud.
*6. Angelina Jolie - 2000 Best Supporting Actress* - She loves, loves, loooooves her brother.
Marlon should have been there by her side rather than letting her take the full blow of heat from everyone.
Real legend
I feel for Littlefeather. She is a person and not a platform, and that’s why talk shows didn’t book her. Brando did a shitty thing: he sent in a young and powerless person to fight his own battle with a powerful opponent. You can be a human rights advocate and exploit people in the process, and that is exactly what happened here.
You shouldn't victimize her. She is a strong woman who made her own choice to do something radical and she suffered the consequences. She's better known now because of it than she ever would have been otherwise.
It was for wounded knee in 73.
D Kelly,Jr yes she was ? She was Yaqui and lipan apache
Ann C She made her own choice and he never forced her to do anything lol.
Nastassia do some homework this was during wounded knee in 73
Gwyneth Paltrow certainly made me squirm with that speech first she didn't deserve that award from any margin and second gave such a long speech and aggravating the situation she sobbed
I remember Judy Dench looking really annoyed.
She blew Harvey too many times for that
It's normal to feel that way. Many people have had the same reaction while getting an Oscar, so, what makes her any different and cringey ?
Gwyneth Paltrow actually gave me all the creeps, first she was a young winner, second she didn't deserved it and third she's crying

Glenn Close is starring in that "The Wife" flick, she might well get her chance for Oscar next year. Who knows?

She's used to having an assistant clap for her, but without that assistant there to do it for her, she'd forgotten how to clap completely.
It was almost as intense as that time that Peter Griffin forgot how to sit down.
calling out cultural appropriation and lack of representation in media in front of some of the world’s most influential people isn’t “uncomfortable”.
well it is for them
Not uncomfortablele nor helpful. If the wealthy influential elites in society cared, most, if not all, of the social problems and inequities would not exist among the common person.
Does anyone even watch the Oscars anymore? Hollywood is a joke.
If Hollywood is such a 'joke', why does their product keep earning billions of dollars every year?
the fact we're giving them the $ and attention makes it that much more of a joke
But if we ARE giving them that much money and adulation, they must be doing something right! I am not saying there is no mediocre artistry out there, I am simply pointing out that, for the most part, the higher-quality artists are finding outlets - and an audience.
I still watch the Oscars for my favorite actors and actresses.
polifatts i dont too late 4 me but i see a bit on sky tv 😊
When Gwyneth Paltrowe won and made that speech is the day I stopped watching the Oscars. Kate Blanchette should have won, hands down no question.
The most cringy thing to come from the Oscars was when Meryl Streep gave a standing ovation to a child rapist.
marlon brando was not cringey
If I was to second guess Emma Stone she probably laughed that off. I think she doesn't have a superficial bone in her body
Gweneth paltrow drama starts at 3:40 !!
Can we just take a moment to appreciate that Little Feather is insanely beautiful, inside and out? One of the few people who’s physical beauty matches their soul’s.
The Oscars to me is just rich brats high giving n slapping each other on the back. Further boosting egos
Its actually meant to boost the box-office take of the movies nominated. And the 'horse-race' factor is meant to give it an atmosphere of suspense, just like in pro sports.
--- How Sam Smith won the Oscar for that James Bond theme song I will never know. It is the worst James Bond theme song of them all.

DON if a woman (or man) chooses to sleep with someone to further their career then it's not rape as they themselves have chosen a course of action. ie consent, however unenthusiastic, regretful and ignorant of consequences that might be.
I am not defending Weinstein he seems creepy and repellent and I'm sure this type of lurid transaction happens everyday in them Hollywood hills but the truth is I don't know what happened. Nor do you.
What is in the public domain is the gushing gratitude of some starlets, now apparent victims at various award ceremonies thanking the man in question.
What I would get angry about is how Weinstein checked into rehab rather than being taken down town for questioning as you and I would be, assuming you are just a regular joe like me.
So far it has been trial by media. The law of any civilised country stipulates a presumption of innocence until proven guilty.

Sacheen Littlefeather's appearance was epic. Brando used his immense star power to focus the world's attention on America's disgraceful treatment of Native Americans. Bravo to him and to Ms. Littlefeather.
Gwyneth Paltrow's career effectively nosedived after this speech.
she is hardly going hungry, tho. She makes plenty for playing Pepper Potts in the Marvel movie franchises, for example.

Ten minutes after and still cringing and writhing.
I don't get it. What's cringeworthy if she talks about 2 talented men. Did i miss something?
Brando's thing wasn't "cringeworthy," it was badass and very honorable. Calling Little Feather's speech "weird" is really tone deaf. It was well done and poignant.
Patricia Arquette! When she won the Best Supporting Actress award for "Boyhood," she made a call for gender equality. In doing so, however, she implied: that racial equality and civil rights for Blacks have been achieved; that women have been there supporting racial equality; and, that it is time for racial minorities to step up and support gender equality. The premise of her speech erroneously assumed that racial equality was achieved and also erased the role of women of color by suggesting that race and gender are mutually exclusive.
thank you. She's your typical white woman who thinks that she is the most oppressed demographic in the world when in fact white women benefit the most from white men being in power

I'm surprised Vanessa Redgrave's acceptance speech didn't make it on here.
I actually give props to her for that one.
The Marlon Brando nonacceptance was the only moment here that had any depth and meaning. The rest just showed how shallow, pointless, and phony Hollywood and its people have become.

You forgot the penultimate cringey Oscar speech: Sally Fields: " You love me! You really love me!"
What about Vanessa Redgrave’s speech when she won her Oscar? Does anyone remember that?
Yes, I do. And it definitely should have been included, I agree. She spoke of "Zionist hoodlums," but the best part was Paddy Chayefsky chastising her when he was at the podium.
How could you NOT have Sally Fields "you like me, you really REALLY like me" on here???? That's the first one I think of when it comes to Oscar speeches!!!!
The Native indian has a perfect shining hair.
Honestly, entertainment awards aren't meant for politics. They're meant to award people. Gosh.
At 4:07, even Gwyneth's mom (Blythe Danner with an appalled expression) in the audience was cringing. Gwyneth's wussiness takes the prize plus deep inside she knew Cate Blanchett really deserved it that year for her movie "Elizabeth".
Cate went on to win 2 Oscars, so I dont think Gwyneth has too much guilt about winning over her that year.
Tom Hank’s golden globe should’ve been up here. I don’t now why, I just thought it was weird. In my opinion.
Nobody say a word about Brando that was a brilliant point to make.
Paltrow apparently told Jen Aniston and Brad Pitt to postpone their wedding so she wouldn't be overshadowed by them, when she won her Oscar!

I'm confused what was the controvery behind Gwyneth paltrows speech?
I will FOREVER wonder why Warren Beatty got called out for the mishap on Moonlight/LaLaLand. He opened the envelope. Looked at it - CLEARLY
confused....and looked to Faye Dunaway, who just BLURTED OUT, "Lalaland!" and the card actually said the name of the actress in LaLaLand, EmmaStone. It was her fault, all the way down the line. Beatty never speaks of this because he's a gentleman and Fay never speaks of it because, well, that's another video.
Wait! You didn't list one of the most bizarre Oscar speeches of all: Sally Field, who won the Oscar for her performance as a woman with 16 personalities. Talk about cringe-worthy comments: "You like me! You really like me!" Ouch. This hot mess was a comedy pundit's dream.
