I have been using this plugin for almost a year and wasn't getting much out of it. Silly me! had the input gain very low. Using SM58 as well. Tried it your way with the higher input gain, at 6dB, with a little bit of EQing, and it made a huge difference. Thanks bro. Much grateful . Greetings from the Motherland

i agree, but the reason why it sounded better is because it isolated the vocals better in the room, because it's a cardiod mic, and not a condenser mic like the other one.
Vertygo (old channel) you mean dynamic because they’re both cardioid. Dynamic mics are less sensitive so its better for untreated rooms because they don’t capture reflections as much

I could tell the difference on my phone speakers easily. Mic 1 is a nice warm large diaphragm condenser. Mic 2 is a dynamic mic with digital processing. You don't need to spend a fortune on a large diaphragm condenser, samson C01 costs $70 new
Well I guessed right, there is way too much low end on the Shure I used to use it, it sound's way different, vocal on Neumann sounded more smooth but You did really good job to try to mimic 103! :)
Just so much more expression out of the Neumann. It brings up crisper nuances that the cheaper mic just doesn't pick up ( although the clipping almost fooled me). However, you did make it sound as close as it's possible
In isolation the 58 actually sounds better but in a deep mix I feel that upper midrange and high end of the TLM will cut through more. The 58 and its big brother the sm7b have been used on plenty of hit records.

It is the same as saying someone used a 414 or u87 there are different models and engineers don't always clarify exactly what year they used. The difference between a u87 models and 414 models is far more distinct than between an sm7, sm7a and sm7b. The sm7b is the only currently made version of the SM7 so if you want a mic in that ballpark its your only option hence why it is often used interchangeably.
I'm a firm believer in making cheap mics sound expensive, and these are undeniably close, but truthfully the vocal wasn't tuneful singing and was heavily processed, so that did a lot to mask them. A really heavily sung performance might show some different results. Still, good job.
i think most thought it was mic 2 because of the cleaner, more boring sound. In the industry you want those good sounding analogue vocals i can hear em from a mile away

those strange sounds were the U87 picking up very nuanced mouth and nasal/soft-palette sounds as he was trying to form consonants. One of the main reasons I don't like condensor mics in general, let alone an extremely room and sound-sensitive $3000 one 😂. I went with a dynamic microphone - if you want something that sounds great, and you don't have to spend an extra $300 getting a CloudLifter like the Shure SM7B, check out the Electrovoice RE20/RE320. Great mics and built like tanks.
Without watching the whole video I knew which one was which cause I’m an experienced audio engineer so I knew the first one was a 1,500 mic and the second was a 50$ mic, people who aren’t experienced are gonna say the second one is better cause it sounds LOUDER, but if y’all listen closely it doesn’t sound cleaner than the first mic tho
Ain't even that bro. It is louder but not in anyway to be a deciding factor. The second mic is a bit more harsh which indicates more equing was done to match the sonics. The first mic is much smoother.
I did guess right. However I heard more sibilance from the first mic which is why I like the sound of the second one better. In any case I still think the point was very well made. $50 really. If it came even halfway close. that's damn good! PS: Right it didn't sound as clear, again with that the $1,500 microphone carried more sibilance. Unwanted.

My first real mic was a Shure SM58, I got it when I first started doing stage performances and it's pretty much the best stage mic you can get in my opinion and since I was dead broke it doubled as my recording mic until I could get upgraded to a Neumann TLM-102...
U gotta show what you are running through prior to hitting the Daw.. which PRE.. plenty of people use SM58 in recordings.. it’s a good mic .. you can look at the wav file and tell which mic is which.. I think you might just be tryna sell your template to people who are not experienced enough to do the research themselves.. I like your hustle..

SM58 sounds better solo which tells nothing of how it sounds in the mix, even though it's not nearly as bad of a mic compared to condensers in that price range or even pricier. Being a dynamic, it's picking up less of that poorly treated room than the tlm103 which is really a hit or miss mic... so another video telling fairy tales to inexperienced kids with no good room and monitors. Aside that the SM58 sounds nothing like the Neumann, it is a good beginner mic, a far better choice than anything else below $200, especially in an untreated room.

What are your thoughts on the Rode NT -1? It’s being marketed as the quietes microphone on the market. I believe the neuman tlm has a self noise of around 7 db and the rode NT-1 is about. -4 db.
@ Thats a plus but there is just so many advantages atleast for home recording. 1- you become acustom to using the same mic you will perform with. 2- you can hold it however/wherever(laying on your bed?) and still get a usable take. 3- It has a great tone and is very musical, many Major bands and Rappers used it for studio recordings(you kind of get a live vox sound but can still make it sound very studio). 4- It's a cheap workhorse that makes you focus on how to make the recording sound the way you want it to apart from your performance and that learning curve will boost you performance/mixing ability so fast. 5- Its kind of forgetable and mic almost becomes an extension of you without noticing it like sensitive condenser that has to be set in place, can't be rattled or touched during the take, can't move while recording, although even if you wanted to set it up like a condenser you still could.
@ don't wanna bash cheap mics, but nt-1 is an average cheap condenser, could be usable in good conditions on a good voice but I'd go with a dynamic until you can afford good acoustic treatment, and a decent pre. Specs mean nothing, what is important is how the mic handles certain frequencies, dynamics, transients etc. The advantage of dynamic mics is they are cheaper to build well and capture less room, the downside is a bit less detail, you can't move too much around the mic, and they need more drive from the preamp...
Mic 2 had a little less body, albeit barely noticeable but who cares it sounded good. It just sounds like a lot of mics I've used and mic 1 sounded like what I want in a mic. Again neither sounded bad just different.

Well it is a dynamic mic. Other companies use 57 & 58 too don't they. I think sure has dynamic 57 too. 🤔

It didn't sound like the $1,500, it sounded better actually. It sounded smoother. Sometimes expensive condensers do too much.

@ I have the NT-1 Black, It's a Beast but honestly with a good soundcard or preamp I wouldve gone with an SM57 or SM58

damn but doesnt the EQ'ing defeat the purpose of using the Mic Room? Shouldnt the Mic Room do that already without having to add more manual correction? hmm... wonder if Autotune's "Mic Mod" is better for emulating without further correction?
