The only non-flanker dior homme i’ve smelled is 2020, which is boring to me - faint lemony, woody blandness. I’ve been meaning to try any version of the original, though. Eau for men is actually my favorite that i’ve smelled. There’s nothing aquatic about it, so i’m not sure why they called it that. I didn’t discover it until after it’d been discontinued in 2019. Kinda wish they still made it.
It does have some aquatic aromachemical materials in it, but the iris ionones hide them well.
Love both. I really enjoyed the new version this fall. It’s simplistic and it works.

The only one I own is the Parfum because I'm a sucker for smoky leather. And the oriental touches are nice, I like that it has a lot going on. But the Original is great too and would definitely be a better everyday scent rather than the thick smoky fumes of the Parfum. The Intense is nice enough, but a bit too sweet for me.
The 2020 is a little boring to me, but I think it's one of the better modern designer releases honestly. Definitely would rather wear it than Sauvage or Y. But I prefer the Sport version, it just has more character to it with the heightened zingy citrus and aldehyde opening and a surprising amount of smoky incense.

It's great, but I'm pretty happy with just the regular. Maybe someday I'll pick it up.
I actually really like the 2020 version however when Frederic Malle rereleased it under the name Uncut Gem ;) it was a another story,

I think you are the one who explained the best this Dior Homme complicated story to amateurs like me. I still do not understand something, all these 4 - silver stem, black stem, 2020 version and original - are eau de toilette?

Thank you for making this clear to me because at one point I wanted to buy one before 2020 black stem and I was a bit at a loss. It would be nice to also have a video about Dior Homme parfum and Dior Homme Intense, I do not get very well how these are related to the ones you already presented.
Parfum and Intense are flankers to the 2005-2019 Dior Homme, with similar profiles scent-wise.

Cheers enjoyed this one a lot ,didn’t take to Dior Homme back in the day silver stem lol , obviously I was taken aback with the makeup bag / lipstick . forward to today and yes sir I have,wear and enjoy the modern Original Version plus also the 2020 as a stand alone flanker / black sheep of the line. For me both have their place in my Dior Homme lineup and suit different settings and moods . Great job cheers D ✌️🙏👍

I like both but I prefer the 2020, which I think is one of the more elegant and versatile perfumes of recent times. It reminds of Guerlain Homme, but is a bit drier. I love it, and the more recent Sport revamp.

I don't know if it was mean to retire Dior Homme and replace it with the 2020 version, at the end of the day business is business and clearly the original was not good business for Dior, I was watching in 2021 a live with Pablo Shenfeld he is Dior's fragrance ambassador in Latin America and he said about the Dior Homme line that never was really understood in the Americas, Dior Homme Eau was a flanker created specifically for the US market, released originally to be a Macy's exclusive and kind of an attempt to be the introduction to the line, a fragrance that is more mainstream, more familiar (to me this smells like Egoiste Platinum plus a hint of iris) trying to attract people to this line and why not eventually go for the other fragrances in the line... but that also failed, I know that a good number of people (in fragcom) love this line but I think the facts show that commercially Dior Homme was not sustainable anymore, Dior Homme Intense and Dior Homme Parfum receive a lot more attention so to me the move to Dior Homme 2020 was very logical business wise, they preferred to try to attract new customers thank keep happy just a few people in fragcom... and I have to say I like Dior Homme 2020 because I judge it objectively for what it is, I didn't have the emotional reaction of the fans of the line.
I absolutely enjoy both iterations, and thanks for the insights on the Latin market.

Powder boy 😆 I confess myself still enthralled with the 2005 version. Never gave the 2020 a fair chance tbh. Smelled it the day it came out and was appalled to experience such a bland dollarstore copout that it left me speechless with disgust. 😂 Perhaps not disgust, but at the very least a disheartened form of hilarity. Sauvage Elixir was strike three, and by then it was clear what direction LVMH wanted them to go. Almost wonder if it was done intentionally to take the piss out of the west. 🤔 But all the emotions and scent associations aside, I would still be interested to see every DH formula put through a gcms to compare their relative cost. It would be unfair to assume that the new formula was frugal move.
East Asia is the biggest luxury market now, so it makes sense to pivot away from American sensibilities to maximize profits in these luxury conglomerates.

I've never emotionally connected to any Dior Homme variation, but I found the 2020 version particularly uninspiring. I don't think the classic masculine aromatic profile pursued by the 2020 variations benefits from the synthetic edges, and it feels budget-constrained (it's easier to imagine Dior releasing a much nicer version in its exclusives line).
Perhaps an exclusive version would be nicer, but I'm glad to have something I enjoy within my means from them. So many of their privé fragrances have been out of reach, then discontinued before I got the money up (like Leather Oud).
@Varanis_Ridari Oh, all their exclusives are too expensive (I don't own any of them). I mean this more as a complaint about the way they stopped investing in their for-the-masses stuff, which they didn't have to do. With Fahrenheit and Eau Sauvage still in good shape, there's no reason DH 2020 couldn't have felt more rounded.
As it stands, I think you can still find much better citrus aromatics that are as affordable or more affordable than DH 2020.
Oh I'm sure you can, and I don't think it's revolutionary by any means. See how much I wear it vs others in the field. Proof is always in the pudding. I just maintain that it is good (in my opinion), but not even close to the best.
I wonder what you think about the Celine fragrance line? also Hedi Slimane behind those. Same style as DH and Bois D'Argent dna
Never tried them, no access to them, and they're way overpriced.
I've never actually tried the original, and so while it might not be fair, I can compare DHI in its place with 2020.
DHI doesn't click with me like it does with many, but I can appreciate it. It's very well done, if not very memorable for me.
DH2020 is more appealing to me, although I also see it as kind of on the bland side. However, it does have some personality, and if I were to wear a mainline designer fragrance as a signature (outside of my longstanding favorite, The One), it would probably my top choice. It's so easygoing and likeable, which I really appreciate in a fragrance that I actually want to wear often.
Although I prefer DH2020, I'm not really the typical straight guy. I'm a big guy, I work out and play videogames, and I like "traditional" male grooming habits. but that's about the extent of my similarities with the masculine stereotypes. I'm soft and sensitive, I have zero interest in sports, I can't fix anything to save my life, I know that I like the look of some cars and that's my entire interest in cars, I'm much farther left than a democrat, and I work in a field dominated by women. And yet I typically like to wear manly men fragrances. It's just what appeals to me, probably because I grew up around those scents and identified with the marketing, idk for sure. They just feel right for me.
The whole Hedi Slimane waif-chic sad emo rich boy aesthetic was definitely against the usual grain even in 2005, but a lot of guys somehow took to it. They'd later change back though. Peer pressure is a thing. Nature vs nurture.
I own DHI and DHP, but I also like the 2020 style, though I bought the Sport (2021) version because it's sharper and has more longevity.
The new sport is good.

For the record, I’m a progressive and independent thinker who’s always thought that the macho straitjacket so many men choose to wear is some of the lamest s**t on the planet. Consequently, I’m able to wear all styles of Dior Homme, and do so with no pretension whatsoever.
I enjoy switching the mood between more rugged masculinity, to more gentile/sophisticate, or going full dandy fop mode and dousing myself in an old feminine perfume. Vascillating back and forth is fun.
