I agree, there's a lot of people who don't understand the meaning of opinion. They think they/other people are making factual statements.
I lost count of the amount of some channel viewers who leave comments such as "thank you for actually being honest about this fragrance, no one else is" when they come across a reviewer who simply shares a similar opinion. They assume that the person with a similar opinion is a specialist because they have a RUclips channel and affiliate links, or whatever, and sometimes say as such in the same comments. They have no awareness that they are simply seeking validation of their own opinion.
Yeah, there are zero qualified opinions in FragComm, not even Luca Turin. People forget that.
As someone who grew up very poor and worked my way into, well, not poor, I'm surrounded by people who grew up ultra wealthy and Luca Turin write/opines exactly like how many people in my life speak. Turin waxing "poetic" about riding in his daddy's Rolls Royce and going to the "summer house as a child" in a review is, well, what it is. But getting angry over his opinion is beyond silly. Some of his stuff is funny, some of it is super pretentious, and some of it reeks of an opinion to get attention.
People who make a hobby their personality feel personally attacked when people disagree with them. It's a sad state but the phrase "touch grass" has a meaning for a reason!
Like I get being incensed that someone you respect trashes something you love, but the reactions I'm seeing are so personal, it's disconcerting.
@@Varanis_Ridari some people are very online now. 5-8 hour livestreams, complete friend groups that are online and based on a hobby. To that end, I understand how people have those reactions. Probably not healthy and I don’t exist in that world but, on some level, I get it.

talking about Luca's (self) appointed authority reviewing/giving his opinion on a perfume and rich mitch raging against him because he is friends with the guy who owns the brand.
Actually, it's not just him lmao. There were worse offenders in forums and on Reddit.

While I have no idea what this video could possibly be referring to 😂 I know that my own reaction wasn't based on his opinion of des cendres and more with how he uses his opinions and status to strike out at people, in this instance my friend, which is what drew said reaction.
Everyone has every right to their opinion but abusing their status to strike out at people is awful... So I decided to talk to Luca the way he talks to other people.
It also bears noting that I don't like des cendres either 😂
exactly. the other day i wore vintage quorum, and i asked my buddy at work what he thought. he could have said "not a fan, thats not my style" but instead i was told i smell "like a moldy basement in an abandoned house" haha. i got the luca treatment unfortunately that time.
I don't think your friend needed/wanted defense. There's no such thing as bad publicity, and you could tell as much in his reaction to the snipe review.
I'm sure he's moved bottles from it all the same, which is ultimately a good thing. Laugh all the way to bank Eugen, you deserve it.
On that note, one of Turin's older "drive-by" reviews on Duc de Vervins (something like "sad fougère") actually made me curious enough to try it, and now I own 2 bottles. My case in point.
@@Varanis_Ridari just as far as him not needing/wanting help, I felt differently. And I wanted to help. Whether I did any good or not is another matter but I felt it.
I don't think he's sold any extra bottles but I do think there might be some people who will become aware of it that weren't previously
Maybe, but that's the issue right there: taking something personally, whether on behalf of another or not. That being said, you're far from the worst, so I'm not aiming my video at you.
You should see some of the diatribes I read on Basenotes, spurred on by a single flippant remark. Mods have their work cut out for them, that's for sure.

I knew what you were talking about and I liked listening to this video. I don't disagree with what you say about taking personally on behalf of another. If Turin had said that about me I'd have just shrugged, farted and moved on. It's different when it's someone you care about, I'm sure you know what I mean.
I got the righteous indignation and I feel like I can justify anything when I get in that state

I never said it was created by him. It was a mod of Kouros, with Pierre Bourdon as "ghost perfumer" on it, like a lot of early Creeds up through about 2002.

s***, if his opinion on des cendres (which in my opinion is an awesome fragrance because that's the kind of stuff I like) makes someone literally enraged or emotional...then they definitely shouldn't read his books lol. when I read through them there's many cases where I totally disagree with him. I never thought of that as adversarial in some dangerous way, just a dude who doesn't see what I see or vice versa. i certainly view him as less credible when he does the whole spinal tap 2 word "s*** sandwich" review thing because its just disrespectful, however

I’ve been all around the issue of opinion, I’ve only learned everyone is right and I’m wrong ….does that make me the “not” asshole 😂

I like Luca's sense of humor but he just reaps what he sows with that style of extremely superficial unrespectful reviews, if you are a stand up comedian you need to be ready to be roasted, if you keep constantly spitting on people someone will punch you in the face sooner on later. I don't want him to get too respectful and boring though 😂
The whole "I feel attacked" thing is meant as sarcasm, but some people make it literal. Also the reader/viewer needs the literary and media intelligence to know when the presenter is lacking nuance, rather than taking it literal as presented.
