Sculpting a Future for E-Waste

- Teenage artist Zayd Menk believes that in a perfect world, there’d be no waste. The 18-year-old has witnessed firsthand the hazards disposed technology creates for poorer communities in his hometown of Harare, Zimbabwe. Motivated by his belief in a circular economy-one where used items are transformed into something new and useful rather than thrown away-he creates intricate art from found objects. Now, he’s partnered with Hewlett Packard Enterprise and their Technology Renewal Center to build a model of London’s Westminster area, solely out of e-waste. It’s a collaboration that promotes ingenuity, sustainability and a better way of doing business.

It's pretty scary how damaging e waste is becoming, just look at dumps in Africa and india, so this stuff is hugely important
Send it back 😎 to china.

And the sad part is money can be made from waste.

@@ZaydMenk I like how sci-fi those roads and Big Ben is looking! Nice work. Have you thought about designing some sort of imaginary city like that? That should end up looking gorgeous

One of my most favourite episodes...
*also from Zimbabwe* 🇿🇼
@ 2:11 - Here-here!...awesome profile. Thanks, GBS!
Sensational.
Thanks for sharing this video.
I live in America and it seems that most people have given up on the environment. I do a similar thing by collecting my favorite prices of "junk" and making sculptures of animals out of tape cardboard and plastic mostly. You are a major inspiration! Your art is amazing. Anyone can create anything given the motivation. But nobody can recreate what you create!
Pieces* and sorry about those run on scentences.
Sentences* sorry.
Beautiful! Zero waste goal makes sense.
Brilliant, absolutely fantastic 👑
Wow good idea my friend that is one of problems all over the world including plastic waste.
Amazing and awsome! Bravo 👏👏👏
Great! Hopefully people will do this in India too.
I like the comment section of this channel because no one says “first”
Wow amazing... :-)
Aneesa Ismail Menk Asalamu Alaikum. Are you a relative to Mufti Menk ?
Yes this is what the world needs keep it up 🤙🏼
This guy is awesome! 🔥
Hey! That is some nice retro hardware.
Awesome... Keep going stronger 👍🏻✌🏻

I wonder if he sells his art? His art is lovely.
Waaaw so nice
Computer parts look like cities... I know, right? :D great idea for art. This guy is amazing
Alhamdulillah. ..☺☺☺☺
Cool artwork..
Zimbawbwe???
That's great creativity
I'm glad I wasn't the only one who thought that the circuit's look like cites.
What a fantastic video
A few times I wanted to buy some e-waste to repair those old computers, but recycling centre asked outrageous price. For them it is better to destroy than to repurpose.
To get more money
Son of Mufti Menk mashaAllah!
Abdullah Zama [Contentions] zayd is his nephew
''he knows de way''
It's not only you who have thought motherboard is kind of a city. Just... 😄😄
Been talking about this for 10, 20, 30 years though...
Hi, wish you a happy year!

Nice idea, and everything. However, you are able to see the lumps of silicon coming out from the seams.
We have the same mind omgosh 😊😊😊😊😊🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗yayyyyyyyy
Wow this is a cool thing to do with broken electronics! If I tried I would well get zapped and it would be a failure
I appreciate your work. Initially I thought you are reusing e-waste in a technical way but you are using it for art😕 Can't we use it in a better way?
Mohammed Qadeer bruh you are a failure you can’t do that so don’t complain
I am aslo same like him
0 dislikes!
Wow 😮
Yeah, when you see a motherboard it does kind of look like city
This is truly incredible.
The tycoons that benifited from all the ewaste created need to clean that shit up.
Well done!
WallE?
Allyays remember to put on a mask while cutting up cercut boards (pcbs')
So how much e-waste did HP remove from Zimbabwe vs how much "new" e-waste they gave to Zayd?
You should be able to see my school
Just saw an IPhone X AD before this video...
So how did they get their time, and record all this?!?
if anyone knows how to make a HP 250 G1 laptop run better and quieter, that would be nice.
I know that it is old but....
EEEEEEEEEEEE
🙌🙌🙌what is their original ethnicity??? Just curious🤔🤔🤔
The waste is still there after it is made into art it just is broken up and looks different
Dang
OMGGG I ALWAYS THOUGHT THE SAME, 😂😂😂😂
How to improve it
God those cities look cool. Reminds me of those times my dad (who scraps metal) will hand me a old desktop he find and i smash it with a hammer, as my 10 year old self. Good fun
my dad is an eletrical engineer who worked on the Captain America movie thats coming out
We make cities
How Cambridge still going to give him a B for art???
I'd buy one for my wall.
Yo they made roblox studio a real thing
Sawing off electronics like this would release microtoxins into the atmosphere. There are safer methods for actually recycling e-waste.
I hate to think that there is no hope for nature and I don't.
Even once humans have destroyed themselves.
So which is it: you hate to think it...and you don’t, or, you hate to think there is no hope for nature...and you don’t..think there is no hope? So that means you think there is some hope! 🤔
Zayd menk is mufti menks son
Ashaun Nessa his nephew
the white dude sounds like Robert downey junior
Mufti menk? Is that u...

I thought Zimbabwe is in africa
Yes it is
So? It is
When the British controlled parts of Southern Africa they imported many Southeast Asian laborers. Same reason why there are many in the Caribbean (Guyana, Jamaica, Trindad & Tobago) as well

What a waste. I could salvage some of those components from his "art"
This sounds like bullshit. Who is actually recycling?
Awesome!
