I saw Spider-Man No Way Home on premiere night in a packed theater so I was obviously expecting some cheering, excitement etc. but there was a group of 6-10 high schoolers who kept yelling out jokes as loud as they could and then would repeat them if they no one laughed (and no one did) they were shushed multiple times by different groups. They threw popcorn at anyone who shushed them and the theater staff/managers did absolutely nothing. Multiple left the room to tell them and they did absolutely nothing. I’d never been more pissed off during a theater experience Great vid Jakob 🎉
I saw Marvels Civil War at IMAX, and this dude in front of me pulled out a phone, and started watching baseball. Luckly, he was surrounded by people who were not donw with that, and we bullied him into compliance.
It's not the same anymore, even the decor at least in my local theaters has become gray and stale. Bring back the fun designed carpets and good original films! Looking forward to The Substance though.
My theater is struggling to the point where they decided it was a good idea to make the lobby an arcade like Dave And Busters. Every time I go, no one uses the games...
Here’s the thing. I’m the cinephile of the group and so sometimes my friends just ask me like “wait whose the actor?” Or like “Isn’t she the one from that one show?” And I just whisper “yeah” or “he’s also in this other movie”. Sometimes when we watch marvel films and they are like “who that character?” And I try to explain it the most quiet way but like my friends are use to asking questions all the fucking time and it’s a bit annoying
Thanks for this vid. I go out to see films less and less often because assholes young and old are talking or have their extremely bright phone screens out in my peripheral vision the entire time. I'm not gonna pay a ticket price I can't afford just to be unable to hear or focus on the damn film because of awful people being awful
I recently had to ask a friend to stop talking during the movie. She then tried to negotiate with me an acceptable level of talking and I had to tell her none.
Great video! When I was watching Uncharted with my dad, there was a group of middle schoolers who talked during the whole movie and even spilled their coke. My father couldn't hold it, and eventually, he told them to shut up. Finally, they decided to leave, but the movie was ruined for me.
8:27 nah bro this is genuine criticism and I am totally with you, if I have to be "mr i hate fun" then sign me up lmao. It feels bleak and dystopian you're right
I love your editing. This video reminds me of when I saw Dune 2. The film had already been out for a while and the theater I chose at the time no one really went to, so it was empty. I was pretty invested, but I kid you not, a group of people came in at the last 45 minutes. It didn’t totally took me entirely out of the movie, but definitely distracted. I pray we all have better experiences that won’t keep us from seeing awesome movies
Another excellent video from Jakob Ross Film Guy. From my personal experience, people that work the theatre don’t care as much either. I remember the front speaker sounding off during the previews (which I assumed was probably some sort of setting). I went to get someone, they came in and said they didn’t hear anything wrong and left. So the whole time, all the dialogue in the movie had this distorted echo to it.
what you said about family films now is so true, I went to go see the Garfield movie and the whole theater was just kids who would not shut up, my fault for going opening weekend but it was a 9:30 showing, like why is your 6 year old staying up till 12 for Garfield😭
I went to watch Beetlejuice Beetlejuice with my mom and little sister, and I kid you not, this little kid sat behind us talking the whole movie and the parents didn’t do a single thing. The kid was literally screaming stuff that was happening. I’m one who believes that taking kids to theaters is a great past time, that’s what got me into my love of films with theaters being the cheapest thing my mom could bring me and my sister to when I was younger. I understand when kids say something to a parent, or say something without meaning to quietly like a couple of times, they are kids after all, but if your child is yelling the whole film and you don’t do anything. That’s a shitty parent move man.
I definitely agree theater etiquette is down. But I go to an AMC theater with 18 screens, and there is always a plethora of movies to go see so I have no problem in that department. And I agree with another comment, reclined seats are a must now a days.
When it comes to crappy hollywood movies that are shoveled out. I think its funny how theyve been doing that since hollywood started, always trying to change a director/writers movie to "Fix" the movie, and whenever they do, the movie sucks, and when they don't touch the movie. OMG, its a great movie with soul and character!
I recently went to go see Beetlejuice Beetlejuice and while i found the film to be very good, the audience was horrible. Lots of people leaving to the bathroom, people having out their phones to message people, someone using their flashlight constantly in the front row, A group of girls kept laughing uncontrollably, it was just a mess.
Hard disagree with the 4DX take, obviously they're not meant for movies like Oppenheimer or The Revenant, but for movies that you know are just quick thrill seeking explosions fun like fast and furious part 800 its genuinely a unique and fun way to experience the movie id recommend it
Great video as always! In the UK I haven't had recent disruptions. The worst I get is people rustling papers. Although the thing I always see is people not following the assigned seating, as far as people arguing over seats even as the film is starting. However I always feel others unease at realising they need to not be on their phone for 2hrs, its palpable unease. Also Pillar boxing on a 4:3 TV is evil you criminal.
Theater etiquette is so real, watching the phantom menace was awful, people with their lightsabers and turning them on during the movie was so irritating.
Bro you are by far one of my favourite creators at the moment, keep it up because your vibe, your content, edit, writing and everything is just perfect 👌🏻
I go to the theater at least once a week and it's getting worse every day. The worst time was last week at a special pre premier of The Substance, a lot of influencers where there and they all just kept using tiktok and ig THE WHOLE MOVIE. In fact a girl that was there filmed the ending and posted it online, and got perma banned from special film events.
I remember when i went to go see godzilla minus one in black and white, and there were these two teens giggling and cracking jokes up until the half part of the movie, eventually this group of adults lost it and told them to "shut the fuck up", needless to say i enjoyed the rest of the movie without having to hear annoying children
ngl, 4DX is a big gimmick and hasn’t worked for any other film I’ve seen… But it low key worked really well with Top Gun Maverick. The chairs only moved when the characters were in the cockpit and it kinda made my experience a lot better. I’ve seen two other films in 4DX and yeah, it doesn’t do anything really for the film. Unless we get Top Gun 3, I’d rather watch it in a regular theater.
Got to see interstellar in IMAX and it was ruined by two 13-15 year olds talking and playing with a plastic bottle the whole time as well as hearing Snapchat notifications every 5 minutes
Those kids should be condomened at hearing the rocket launch in interstellar and the soundtrack of tenet for hours at 105db till they get deaf @@JakobRoss seriously how can you be so rude at such a special moment like interstellar in IMAX. And I am very peaceful man ..😅
Trick for the candy issue: just eat everything before the movie starts! or that might just be me being a glutton and eating the entire bag of popcorn during the 20 minutes of trailers.... Also, 4Dx is literally a toned down version of a park ride (5Dx seemingly being more common). These rides can go all the way to 12Dx. And finally, nice use of AGFA's "Hey Folks! It's the Intermission Time Video Party!". If you liked their movie mashup thing included on disc 1 you should watch the "Everything is terrible" trilogy of movies, their are kinda amazing.
A good experience I had at the theaters was with DIDI. i was on vacation and went to the theater by myself for the first time (I got anxious and bought the expensive popcorn and water) and i was one of 2 people in the theater, and it was amazing. it was chill and such a good experience to just be in there with me myself and this guy. Though It was a bit sad no one was at the theater, but it was also a Tuesday.
Went to go see Inside Out 2, a family was talking through the entire thing. Then about half-way through, the projector froze, and we had to wait for the movie to come back on for 40 minutes.
I recently had a portion of Transformers One ruined because of these kids behind me. They were on their phones, constantly giggling, then one of them must've been lactose intolerant or something because they started to fart and starting to laugh at it. Thankfully they left, so they spent money on a movie they didn't even watch. Also I missed my school dance for that so if it was ruined I wouldn't have been happy.
I work at a theater. Y’all know if there is unwanted noise in the theater you can run to customer service or an employee and get a manager to come into the theater and remove or silence the unwanted noise🤦That’s y’all’s fault fr if your theater experience gets ruined by kids
Also theater etiquette is alive. People in the 70s were talking in theaters and kids in the 50s were throwing popcorn and kicking seats it’s nothing new. There is not more of it now it’s still the exact same. Most people have theater etiquette though and will be quiet during movies.
Good thing Filipinos still have theater etiquette whether I'm watching an indie or blockbuster. I agree on your take that it's normal to react loudly while watching in a theater but at least all of their phones are off. We also have 4DX here but I'm not paying for that shit. I can only watch in three separate formats: Standard, Dolby Atmos, and IMAX Can't wait to see The Substance though, which I'm gonna watch it next week.
the movie theater where i lived closed for good a few months ago and it sucks so much but i did go see beetlejuice beetlejuice in the town next to me which is like 25 minutes away from me and it went very good with no issues at all so thank god for that
we need a small play place outside of the theater rooms themselfs far away for the toddlers to fuck around in while the parents watching a horror movie or something. thats what i want
Hey Jackob it's your viewer from India and the things are also same here. Bollywood's highest grossing movie of the year is Stree 2 which is a part of universe and a sequel. And the next year is also filled with lots of sequals/franchise movies/remakes. Though we have Malayalam industry which is making good and original movies for us Indians.
never experienced 4DX but i DID see Dora in 4D at a museum when I was 9. I'd rather do that again than go see fucking Twisters and get flung out of my seat.

So it all depends on the people, try different days/times.
My local theatre used to be really cozy, they always showed indie- as well as mainstream movies. Oh yeah… it’s a restaurant now.
Its Uncharted. It was already ruined to begin with.
When I saw Shazam 2 a few years ago there was a whole school watching it on like a field trip or something, it was terrible
Now that's brutal
If a movie theater does not have reclining seats it is doomed.
oh god, I hate those seats so much.

I watched the last Transporter film in 4DX, can still feel those Jason Statham liver punches
I thankfully have avoided a lot of bad experiences, but I HATE it when people do anything distracting. I feel for you
