My dad grew up on a farm where they had to plow with horses. When you said only 5 horsepower I pictured my dad say, have you ever tied 5 horses to something. lol
Working at JBA Speed Shop in SD for several years taught me a lot on this. Jay was the original owner of JBA Exhaust so this was always a big area of interest for us. Having an engine and chassis dyno was great for seeing what losses you had from engine dyno to Chassis dyno. What styles of headers and exhaust style/sizes did. I miss that and all the cool builds of course.
I absolutely dig seeing how things are made and behind the scenes, makes you appreciate how something goes from an idea to something we see on the shelf (or our virtual cart or wishlist). The tweaking and hands-on, human touch is still something that can’t be completely replicated by a machine. Great vid Brad, thank you!
I have the MF Overland exhaust on my 2020 JL Rubicon. I’ve been very pleased with sound, added clearance and a bit of performance and no drone. It’s a great quality system.
Whether it's a water crossing or playing around with all these exhaust configuration options, you've found a way, Brad, to make Fluid Dynamics a lot of fun! Geek is good!
Brad, super cool that you continue to evolve as you have on this platform. Working with them on an R&D project like this means they trust and believe in you and what you stand for not only personally but professionally as well. I'm only a for fun channel as stated in previous comments (jeepNdirt) but if I could one day get away from the Engineering world of manufacturing I might have a chance at creating more content and learn how enjoy this as much as you do. Great stuff brother.
I just put the axle back Magnaflow SS Street Series on my JK. It took only 40 minutes from the time I walked into my shop until I started the engine. Super easy! It sounds awesome! Very little drone when tooling down the highway at 70 mph.
This is great and a an awesome benchmark to start. I really like the clearances that were gained. Power may not be whats desired. But that clearance sure is.
Fantastic video! I love the technical details that were given. I think the open pipe sound was the best but, like you mentioned in the video, it needs to be tested to make sure there's no drone at speed.
Super cool that Magnaflow used you as a test pony. Being involved with some behind the scenes technology has to be a blast. And who doesn't like a better sounding exhaust note and hopefully a few more horses under the hood?
my first upgrade is always the exhaust, slapped the cat-back 'rock crawler exhaust' on my 21 GLadiator, sounds great, better performance immediately, and more clearance.. can't wait to see what's next.
Hey! My wife and I came across your channel as we were researching ways to outfit either our '23 Wrangler or '15 Ram for offroad camping. We watched your Big Bear and North Rim Grand Canyon videos of the various configs of the folks' rigs that traveled with you. Very impressive! What I'm most interested in is your connection to the Marine Corps. I noticed a 1stBn RTR flag and a CommBn flag in your garage. I was a DI at 2ndBn RTR PISC, and served on Okinawa with 7th CommBn. My wife could've sworn she heard you say "Oorah" on one of the videos we watched. As we research our outfitting options, I'm thinking this may be our "go-to" channel for ideas. Semper Fi!
This was one of the most interesting videos that I thought would not be! Never thought about straight pipes creating eddies. Very interesting! Thank you!
Looking forward to the follow up video & hopefully hearing thay are putting them into production. Hopefully they will be available for the JK owners in Australia.
The open version sounded great! I wish they would do something with eu approval for the diesel, it won't sound better, but the rest would still be fine
Love the sound of the Open Magnaflow, at least with me hearing. Now if only someone would make a 10 to 15 gallon spare fuel tank to go where the muffler is and do a muffler delete or redesign
@@stevefrew5842 Sounds great, I want to start some overlanding, mostly just me since my wife likes a indoor bathroom and shower..lol. The extra fuel will be a great relief when getting into some back country.
I usually don’t leave comments. But this video was fantastic. I have learned a lot about mufflers and technology behind it. Looking forward for the next video. Well done Brad.
The thing about most dynamometers, is they measure power at wide open throttle. We drive at part throttle most of the time, if not all of the time. And fuel economy at a given speed on the highway is another comparison. So 7 months later, what is your summary of the exhaust experience?
That Was Super Interesting & Great Knowledge, I Had No Idea At All, & I Will Spread The Word About That & Your Ch. EVEN More,So Thanks To You & MAGNAFLOW, That's UNREAL !!! 👍👍👍
Thanks to you N Magnaflow, great info, great options, did they do a dyno test fully open and with it closed? Will be looking forward to your field time results.
I really enjoyed the video, the info was interesting! I wouldn't have a need for this myself, as I'm not dragging the exhaust at all. If I do ever get to a point where this type of change would benefit me I'll be all over it.
J loop best overall sound, Cap good under throttle and the open is too loud long term especially hiway driving...IMO, great video, good to see Magna Flow working with you!
Great, great video! It was like a 4-wheelers version of "How It's Made". I'm curious which configuration you'll end up with. I'm pretty sure I already know which one it'll be.
I am surprised you still had a stock exhaust. I put a 3” AFE on my JK years ago and I love it. It goes in place of the resonator, no rear muffler at all. Sounds like a Nissan VR engine (GTR/370z). The tunability of the MaganaFlow setup is super cool. If you removed the resonator you would get more sound and flow. Though perhaps more drone.
Oh ya, and do a muffler delete sound test. Both my kids run muffler deletes on their JKU-R with 3.6s. But they are a bit raspy right before they shift.
Should do a cold air intake kit and a programmer that will increase as well.. I noticed a big improvement on my 2002 for ranger with the 4.0 my fuel mileage went up to as well. I'm getting almost 22mpg on highway with a 5inch lift and 33 inch tires with 17 inch wheels... but love your jeep... keep the videos coming..
Great episode Brad, very much enjoyed it. Did you guys discuss electric trucks/cars and what impact it may possible have on such an iconic American company?
Technology is so amazing that it makes something as basic as an exhaust system high tech. It was really cool to see the R n D side of things. I like the sound of the "cap" version, just enough growl sound. Brad, when does the "TrailRecon edition" exhaust come out? 🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽
Just ordered it for my 2012. Was trying to hear more sound clips on your later videos on the trail and noticed you put full J pipe and resonators on. Still happy with tone? Def seems quiet until you step on the gas, which is what im hoping for
Very interesting stuff. I love your license plate. I had a 1980 911 SC and my plate was OELPLZ (Oil (in German) Please) :D The old Porsches are notorious for leaking oil.
Exhaust open sounds great. I'm wondering if you also paired this with a cold air intake and an engine tuner to get any more power out of the Jeep for towing? I have a 2017 Sahara Unlimited with a 3.5" life on 37's. I'm looking to get a new travel trailer and I am a little concerned about the Jeeps ability to pull anything over 3000lbs. I saw your old Patriot Camper here in Vegas at the shop 2 days ago and I'm trying to decide between the Gen 2 or the AOR Odyssey which is around 3100 lbs dry. That hill going into the mountains just past Primm into Cali has me worried.
Nice video. A nice sound change...a little deeper....sounds nice. When it comes time to freshen up the motor...go through and strengthen some components then drop an Edelbrock supercharger Stage 1 system on that thing.....they claim 317 rwhp and tq gains as well. I'd probably do a cam and valve train upgrades at least.....possibly even some aftermarket heads for better flow. By far your best vehicle you own imho.
I'm interested in knowing if you've picked up any drone at all. A lot of people experience a drone at around 2500 rpm on the 3.6 with a less restrictive exhaust. I do and I've definitely been considering welding on a quarter wave resonator to try to kill those frequencies.
Great video. I’m curious if they go into production. I tried the Banks exhaust for the JK and liked it at first because of the aggressive sound but in the end went back to stock; the drone was horrible on the HWY and it was just too loud on the HWY for me.
It is awesome to see how it's done, thanks! I currently have the Mgnaflow Overland and love the sound on my JKU. Btw, quick question. I saw you have the stock radio back in. Didn't you have the Stinger head unit for a while? Or did I miss a video/chat about it? I sadly need a new radio in my Jeep and would have loved to have your input in what you have seen around and used.
Just wasn’t very compatible with how I configure my dash and I had some technical issues. I’m content with the original radio, it suits my needs. Thanks for being a channel member!
Interesting video. I liked the flow data. I have been thinking about one of these Magnaflow exhausts for my 2016 Colorado. I upgraded to a Flowmaster Flow Fx and when I tow our small square drop, the drone can be a little rough. Bad news……1/8=.125 which is a decimal. 😂😂😂😂
Brad, Did you talk about existing systems like the Magnaflow Overland exhaust vs the new build? Just wondering id the Overland would have met your needs.
My dad grew up on a farm where they had to plow with horses. When you said only 5 horsepower I pictured my dad say, have you ever tied 5 horses to something. lol
LOL!
It’s interesting to note that certain breeds of horses can produce upwards of 15 hp. A human being can typically produce about one HP.
🤣🤣🤣🤣

Super good video, Brad. Very informing and intertaining. I agree with you on the open straight pipe for the best and most aggressive sound.
