Aladdin Sane that this is off of is a good LP that has some real good tunes. The problem with is that it was rushed to get get out so the overall quality of the sound production is a little lacking but definitely is a good listen, check out the songs "Watch That Man", "Panic In Detroit", "Time", "Prettiest Star". it also has a different take on The Rolling Stones song "Let's Spend The Night Together".
As far as I know this is Fay's 2nd reaction to "Cracked Actor" - the first one was to a more theatrical, but less musical version from 1983. The song originally appeared on the album "Aladdin Sane" (A Lad Insane) in 1973, which was the first album Bowie released after "The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars", which together with the ensuing tour made him famous. True to form Bowie immediately began reflecting on the superficiality and temporariness of stardom and realises that his own future could resemble that of an aging Hollywood actor, who has to buy sex to feel attractive (You sold me illusions for a sack full of checks) and ends up with a prostitute, who only feels "smack" (heroin) and is disappointed that the actor isn't a good connection, who could provide her with more heroin. 😮

Aladdin Sane is one of my favorite Bowie albums. So sad that he's gone.
