Mick Ronson was trained classically to play piano, recorder, violin, and (later) the harmonium. Check out his " Slaughter on 10th Avenue" & song "This Is For You" which is very tearfully powerful.
Cracked Actor’s still a perfect song to walk into a club on; Time, not so much, but it works well at 5 am when everything’s falling apart and you wish it was 1973 or 2033 or 6138. Pretty good year!
Mick Ronson could have been much more known if he'd had a thirst for stardom. Great guitarist 🤘And David was beyond words. What a freaking legend. What a voice!
Thank you! We’re actually taking a pit stop this week at another Bowie track (width of a circle studio version) but we are picking back up the album next Wednesday :)
Another reason for not splitting the listening to Panic in Detroit and Cracked Actor is that they were the last 2 songs on the first side of the album. Time was a perfect start to side 2.
Bowie always seemed thoughtful in the way he arranged the songs on his albums. I always found it best to play them in the order that he thought best. Good responses. See ya.
This was the first Bowie album I bought (not the first I heard) when it came out. I still love it! Mike Garson’s piano n Mick’s guitar are supercharged!!!
David live lp listen! Cracked actor, monage daydream, width of a circle, rebel rebel and many more wilder better than studio, be amazed, one of my top live lps!!
I bought this album a few weeks after it came out age 13. I first played it on the family stereo in the lounge. The line "Time, he flexes like a whore, falls wanking to the floor" very nearly got me into trouble. Luckily, Mum was distracted and didn't hear it! Swear words were just not tolerated in the 70s....
My little brother as a toddlers first sentence was “crack baby crack”. My parents werent pleased, as I played this repeatedly from the day it came out as I was 13 year old too.
When I got this album back in the day, that 'W' word wasn't on my personal radar, and I didn't know what it meant... I was twenty (and still a 'V' ...til three years later!!) talk about naive?! Loved the album, though Ziggy is my favourite... I think..(?!) Hard to pick any favourite of DB... I just know that when the news came on the tv in 2016, I burst into tears when I realised what they were saying about him. Grew up listening to him and life seemed empty without David Bowie in it. R.I.P. David.
Never apologise for your kids Lee. Time will tell you. Bowie's voice on "Time" is awesome, so very theatrical & full of passion & meaning. The Lyrics are some of his best. I must see if you have done "Golden Years", a very funky Bowie.
I'd be really interested to see your reaction to "Outside", a largely-forgotten Bowie album from the Nineties which is a very strange, very beautiful piece of work. And also features Mike Garson on piano!
Loving re-visiting this album. Time is my favourite overall track, so much going on and the guitar and piano work together so well. I'm looking forward to the next two and the next two. Cheers.
These are my 2 favorite songs from the album. Time is one of my favorite Bowie songs period! The live version from The Glass Spider Tour in 1987 is one of the most beautiful live vocal performances I’ve ever seen! Check it out when you can 😊
You should check out Whomanfoursays, an album by Canadian singer Dalbello, where Mick Ronson co-wrote, played, and produced. I read that they had access to a Fairlight synth that none of them really knew how it worked, and they just experimented a lot. "Gonna get close to you" was kind of a hit
I disagree with others here, "Cracked Actor" is quite cool, but "Time" is a fantastic track and one of my favorites. Brilliant dynamics, yes, i will get flogged, but oh well.
I’ve never heard these before… Cracked Actor is rocking. (Does he really say, “Suck, baby, suck!” ?!🤯) Bowie’s theatrics 👏🏻 It’s Herculean of Lee to do 6 or 7 videos a day… ! but it’s such a great variety of music.
Obviously you love this and let's face it, what right minded peep wouldn't but you for sure need to visit Lou Reed's Transformer. The input from both Bowie and Ronson is in-yer-face. You'll love it.
It would be interesting to hear your reaction to Mick Ronson's solo albums. Garson appears on some. "Slaughter on 10th Avenue", "Play Don't Worry" and "Just Like This" are the ones I like best.
Yet two more classic songs from a classic album. If you ever get a chance.....it would be great to have a reaction to "Preparing to fly" by The Waterboys. The album its from is "Dream Harder" ...so different from anything The Waterboys had done before...or after!! It rocks.
@@L33Reacts “Time” is so theatrical. “The sniper in the brain.” Brilliant lyrics and themes and oh-so-true, all delivered with classic Bowie wit. It’s one of those tracks that are sort of fundamentally “right” on all levels for me ❤ “Cracked Actor” reminds me to remind you to check out Bowie movies. “Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence” especially, with Ryuichi Sakamoto. For lineups, you’re moving into Fripp territory with the Scary Monsters album 👍
There are 3 fantastic songs called Time, this one, Pink Floyd's Time and Time by Tom Waits. There are also 3 fantastic songs called I Want You (The Beatles, Dylan and Elvis Costello). Which is a interesting bit of music trivia I believe, but then again, maybe that's just me 🙂
There are tracks on this album that are the height of glam rock (enhanced by Bowie), especially the next track ‘The Prettiest Star’. If you want a real taste of pure glam rock and what the mood and scene was like in the early-mid 70s then you should watch ‘The Rocky Horror Picture Show’. Great underground film with fantastic music. Really low budget and tacky and absolutely seminal and ground breaking.
Ha! Your daughter is stealing the show from Bowie 😅 But I do agree with you about people, ridiculously, polarising music. I'm a music fan. I'm not a music snob, and by that, I mean I love all types of music whether it's rock, pop, reggae, funk, soul, classical, folk etc. As long as it's good, with some melody. Keep on exploring Lee. You'll find plenty of gold nuggets in all genres.
Hi Lee's little girl! I've got a feeling you won't like the next two. The first of them is ok, but "let's spend the..." is bobbins and shouldn't be on the album in my onion ;)
Mick Ronson was trained classically to play piano, recorder, violin, and (later) the harmonium. Check out his " Slaughter on 10th Avenue" & song "This Is For You" which is very tearfully powerful.
A day without some Bowie is a sad day indeed!
Agreed.
"Can I finish?" "Yeah."
Mick shines on the man who sold the world album - that LP doesn’t get the attention it deserves- any DB album is gold
‘His trick is you and me, boy!’
Cracked Actor’s still a perfect song to walk into a club on; Time, not so much, but it works well at 5 am when everything’s falling apart and you wish it was 1973 or 2033 or 6138. Pretty good year!

There are decades of Bowie to explore.
Cracked Actor sounds like it would be great to see it performed live! Time is a song that belongs in a cabaret!
What a album! Cant believe its 51 years old. Production is awesome. Still have the original album on vinyl
One of my favorites on this album. No one mentions it but Ronson’s guitar layers are the closest to Brian Mays.
I love the crunchy distortion of cracked actor. It's such a fun song to jam to.
The version of "Cracked" from his 2000 BBC concert, with the core of his last touring band (Slick; Garson; Dorsey; Campbell), is scorching.
💯
On his Glass Spider Tour Bowie with angel wings stood on the head of a giant glass spider while singing Time. Goose bumps. 60 feet above the audience.
@@thunderspike1892 Pretentious? Moi? 😂
I really like how you are going through entire albums.
Thank you! We’re actually taking a pit stop this week at another Bowie track (width of a circle studio version) but we are picking back up the album next Wednesday :)
Cracked Actor is my fave song of all time. Pure power. Thanks Mick.
Yeah! Somebody listened to "Time"!!

there is a live bbc version from the year 2000 that will blow your mind
Best version. Whoever was in charge of sound at the bbc that night deserves a medal
This was the first Bowie album I bought (not the first I heard) when it came out.
I still love it!
Mike Garson’s piano n Mick’s guitar are supercharged!!!
I think this was a time when bowie didn't have enough time to produce great music. He was very busy.
David live lp listen! Cracked actor, monage daydream, width of a circle, rebel rebel and many more wilder better than studio, be amazed, one of my top live lps!!

When Bowie sung the song on NBC’s The Midnight Special he switched the word “wanking” with “swanking”. It is a fabulous (very 70s) performance 😊
My little brother as a toddlers first sentence was “crack baby crack”. My parents werent pleased, as I played this repeatedly from the day it came out as I was 13 year old too.

Beautiful comment. The huge void left by Bowie will never be filled.
Wait till you get to Lady Grinning Soul! :O
One of my all time Bowie songs ❤
Definite top 5 for me~
Love this album❤❤

A fantastic pair of songs

we should be on by now
Bowie is always good ... love the melody in "Time"
I bought this when it came out! Love it! Might be my favorite.
Awesome review - top stuff mate ⚡️⚡️
Based on the time he spent in Hollywood.

I love Trevor Bolder's bass lines, sound and presence on here too. You were evidently elsewhere. 😂
Looking forward to your assessment of Space oddity
Taking it to the end of time💙👍
Sweet little girl!
my fave song of his early years
Both of these are incredible!

Lee, if this one doesn’t get to you… ❤ Top form from Mr Bowie
Oh I absolutely loved these two. And it retroactively made me love panic in Detroit even more. I knew it would happen Lol

Maybe it's when taking the Lord's name in vain. Any other cursing isn't as bad. Most people curse including myself but I don't take the Lord's name.
