    I really appreciate the nautical terms being translated to the less experienced people like me! This is my favorite channel to just hit play and listen to all day. CQ is such a interesting character, so much knowledge, dad jokes 24/7, candid, smart and generally a nice guy.
    Ran is the perfect duo, also smart and experienced but lets CQ do the talk, awesome camera, sound, editing and graphics, only comments when needed or to add something important.
    Such perfect chemistry It's amazing to see, so much better than all those attention hungry sailing couples that are all over the place ( and very annoying to be honest )
    You guys should get together with @SamHolmesSailing for a collab, another outstanding dude he would love you too I am sure.

    This is a really nice boat. I've developed a preference for those largish aft cabins and center cockpit designs.

    • @Antipodean33
      @Antipodean33 2 года назад

      For me the center cockpit/aft cabin set up is the perfect boat. For starters being centrally placed in the boat is the best spot to be, then you have the privacy factor of the aft cabin and the huge bonus of engine access when the engine is placed under the cockpit. For me if I'm in the market for a 40 odd footer the center cockpit is my choice

    Camera guy Randle cracks me up 😊 “You can put a pillow in there and tell me it’s a bunk.” Ha! Must be difficult to edit and cut treasure troves of wisdom at every segue. My guess is that more lateral plane is better when hove-to, right, so Chuck’s Intrepid would be my answer. Pearson 35s are to Honda Civics as Intrepid 40s are to Toyota Rav4s (not even in the same class as Jags, btw). Riddle me that for merch! Thanks for sharing, as always 😊.

I spent my youth sailing a C&C 33 on the Great South Bay with my parents and Captain Q reminds me of them and their love of sailing every time I watch. Congratulations to Ran-Day on his purchase of his own beautiful boat and thank you both for providing such a wonderful gem of yachting enthusiasm

    Aloha Captain Q and Rande! One observation between aircraft and sailing vessels; aircraft flight controls have precise control over "bank"! When will marine architechs produce," Float Controls" to affect precise control over, "Heeling Angles" on sail boats? Put "Whaleirons" on winged keels for precise heel angle control. Articulated Float Controls on winged keels that act as alierons do on aircraft to keep bank/ heel angles shallow. Keep the boat in a more level attitude in the water! Captain "Bee"!

    Cape Dory also produced a limited number of Intrepid 35's, a McCurdy & Rhodes design previously built in Canada as the Heritage 35. This was featured as a benchmark design in the book "Desirable and undesirable features in offshore yachts" published in the early 1990s.

    Very nice! I like it. I owned and cruised a similar boat that I loved. The Kelly Peterson 44. Loved the dual companionways and 15 opening ports and 5 hatches. I was great in the tropics and I never felt the need for AC. Prop in an aperateure and lots of waterline! Very fast cruiser for its vintage. Never had any significant problems after tens of thousands of miles of cruising over about 9 year. Did not have teak decks! This boat is very similar.

      @@YachtHunters Ok. Gotcha. They indeed can be a project. Especially teak decks and window. Mine a 1981 (one of the last) had few problems in the first 30 yrs of it’s life that I had her. I sold it and the new owner nearly circumnavigated with her. I crossed 2 oceans in her, making as many as 200 mile days. For her vintage, she was fast and well behaved. They can vary tremendously in condition as any boat, from crap to wonderful. The only thing I did just before I sold her was replace all the chain plates. They were ready. Never any deck or structural problems, and I gave her a workout! I bought her for 92K in good shape and reasonably well equipped. Sold her nearly a decade later for 132K in great shape and well equipped. No complaints from me. I will check out your video on it. Thanks!

    Forget the Dinty Moore. Winner, winner, chicken dinner for this boat! Chuck Paine design, very good in my book! How many of the original Morris Yachts did he design here in Maine!! Cutter rig availability a big plus!! Was the Intrepid manufactured by Cape Dory? It sure looks like it? Big engine. If this boat has enough tankage for fuel and water you are almost ready to go anywhere. I agree, if going cruising, I would move the batteries above the waterline. The boat looks to be fairly well cared for. I am sure some updates are needed, after all what is wrong with a 5 gallon bucket with a seat in the aft head!?!?! Should get plus 1 for the chart table but you subtract 1 for the rear head!! This appears to be a great boat at a reasonable price, pending survey on all systems, engine, rigging and sails. If I were looking this would be definitely on the short list! Especially if built by Cape Dory or at the same quality. Great find gents! Also looking forward to more updates on Ran-Day's boat. Lots to do!!! See you next week!

    love this channel! I follow quite a few sailing videos on RUclips, Captain Q is the go to channel for information about boats. I often “sea” sailors having to fix a leak, a crack or a hole in a boat while under sail. So now I believe every Captain should carry a few cans of “Great Stuff” expanding construction foam for backyard pond repair. Its not pretty but it is extremely effective in an emergency! You can stuff a plastic bag or a sheet etc. through a large hole then fill it with foam or simply spray it into a smaller hole or crack. Let it dry, then head to marina for permanent repair. What do you think Captain?

    The sintered bronze plate is an electronics ground, not a lightning ground. Because it is full of water, if it takes a lightning strike that water superheats into steam, literally exploding. That's why Dynaplate says not to use it for a lightning ground, only for electronics.

      @@YachtHunters Thanks Captain...I remember this EP but didn't recall it was a Bristol.

      Apologies. We were talking about an aft cockpit 39… you are talking about the center cockpit Bristol 41.1
      Both designed by Ted hood but ten years apart. The 41.1 is a beauty

    Are there any sailboats out there that you might be able to open a chair and relax? Or are the all like living in a hallway tilted at 30 degrees? What's up with that apogee?

    Question: what do they do with all that plastic wrap? Reuse it, recycle or toss it in the dumpster?

    • @YachtHunters
      @YachtHunters  2 года назад +2

      it depends on the boatyard... some recycle it other throw it in the waste bin. It's a shocking amount of material to put into the ground.

    How I hate varnished teak on a boat! You gotta stay on top of it because if you don’t it’ll never look like new again unless you sand the wood down enough to get rid of the wet wood stains. A good option is to lightly sand good varnish and paint! Ofcourse, teak is ok inside, because the sun and weather can be kept off it.

    A spare toilet under the Aft cabin bunk - an idea that is either unbridled genius or pure insanity.

      the genius or insanity depends on whether or not you have had a serving of Dinty Moore....
