You guys are very kind with your comments. Thank you.
You seem to have the design concept down pat.
The boat was built by our crew who were a combination of ex Hinckley employees who left Hinckley after it sold the first time and a group of young folks, many who went through the boat building school in Eastport, Maine. It was really a terrific experience to go to work with these guys. Design ideas and details were flying all over the place.
As I reach the point of life where the body is demanding I slow down it is a great boost to view your video and see one of our boats appreciated. Thank you so much and please keep up the good work! I love the classic boats.

And we tried to reach you at the last minute but we ran out of time so thank you for checking in with us and for the kind note.

Great boat as all Hinckley’s are of course

What an honor and joy to sail your haul no.1 of the OC40. She will make a good companion for whoever choose to step aboard next. Thanks Captain Q for the high marks on her condition including the nav table. :-) she sailed many wonderful trips under my watch. fair winds and following seas Sincerely, Jonathan

I've got a wish list for the two of you. On RUclips,as I'm sure you're aware, there are videologs of a lot of couples doing their nautical thing, giving the rest of us something lovely to dream about. Your channel is part of that dreamy process. One of my favorites is a couple and their boat, Uma. In the course of their adventures, they gutted their Pearson 36 and pretty much rebuilt the damn thing. It's GORGEOUS. So here's what I want you guys to do: I would like you to set up a laptop and film yourself responding to their 35 minute interior tour of what the two of them have done. YOUR MINDS WILL BE BLOWN at their inventiveness, creativity and flexibility - I'm hoping you will be not just impressed with Uma, but will be utterly gobsmacked by their efforts. I'd LOVE to see you both evaluate their incredible outside-the-box thinking. In my mind, most marine architects would completely lose their minds at the leaps those two have made aboard their liveaboard. So please, Captain and Randay, consider this your incredibly fun homework assignment: film yourselves watching their video. Everyone will have a blast! Link: ruclips.net/video/8qtMHgXM-7I/видео.html

Every detail is considered with sailing in mind and the finish is wonderful. I see the Captain has given in to facial hair finally. Next I expect to see a Greek fisherman's hat which would take me back to the days of my youth at Old Orchard. Excellent episode gentlemen. Thank you as always.

Wow, we are actually thinking the same thing Captain! I too was thinking that I could circumnavigate in an OC 40 and gunkhole along the way! She looks beamy, sea kindly, sturdy, not too drafty (I like that), has some capacity in those full bilges for fuel & H20- merely needs repowering, standing/running rigging, new wiring, new through hulls, a quick check of the gudgeon & pintles- and off we go! Love those stainless deck fittings: fairleads & bow pieces are GORGEOUS! Works of art.

I'm in love with this boat. I'm currently in the process of saving up every extra penny I make with the idea of buying a boat that I could live aboard and spend time around the east coast down to the gulf while I become comfortable with everything one should learn when transitioning to this lifestyle. One thing I've been curious about is how much money I should save beyond the cost of buying and insuring a boat. Mostly to do with all the extras involved with keeping the boat in working order, while living as comfortably as possible. I'm a 100% disabled veteran of the US Navy and I've recently recovered from my health issues to the point that I'm able to live whichever lifestyle I choose. My disability pay will be roughly $40k a year for the rest of my life. This will at least give me the advantage of having a passive income while being away from normal life.

Where you're going "ahead of time." So that "after filming" I could be standing "off camera" with my check book. This boat is not a 30 minute drive from where I live. So right now I could work on "going nautical". It is so close to reality for me to be able to afford a 50G and less "pretty good boat" and then just "move in." ~ Maybe I'd only have the boat for five years but wow. This is why Randal's posts are so valuable (with his "new" boat). ~ Oh yea... ~ So sad.about Annapolis this last weekend. ~ Oh well. ~. "The latch needs attention". Meaning, the chrome finish or the mechanism, i.e. spring or metal wear? I love the fit and finish of New England Hinckley's but the common lack of a chart table is a deal killer, this one fixes that, even the galley looked nice. And the slope to the back of the settees, another win, without...deal killer. Well done boys.

Without the bar board plug any accumulated water might build up, and even freeze and damage the hull and floorboards…

Love these boats! If you ever get the chance you should check out the OC 52! In many ways these are actually better than the Hinckley B40. Hank spare nothing in her construction and the Airex foam makes for great insulation and sound deadening. I don't think Hank made more than 2 or three of these before he built the 42 making them quite rare.

I am looking your videos (from Germany) since the 1 day - this one is for me the best yacht you introduced to us. Everything under and above deck is where i would expect it to be. Unfortunately i am (as someone below wrote) at the wrong place and time - i am 2 years older than the Captain.
Two Remarks: on almost every boat that you discussed the body painting was too thick (too many layers) and had some areas, where the layers flaked off. For me this would be the first thing to eliminate - as long as the sails and rigging is pulling me forward and the engine is pushing me. Whats your opinion?
You mention that some carbon-blasting would be necessary. Could you please describe this occasionally? I suppose that it is something similar to sand-blasting, but with deepfrozen carbon dioxide?

    • @YachtHunters

Thanks for watching and being an early adopter! We talk about Soda Blasting {sodium bicarbonate (baking soda)} mostly as the method to remove all the paint back to the fiberglass... it's relatively inexpensive and effective at getting the paint off. We've heard cost estimates of around $2000. USD for a mid-sized boat to come in and soda blast the bottom. We think it's well worth the investment to bring it back to the base layer and build it back up nice and smooth. We hope to show this in detail in a video sometime soon. thanks for the suggestion!!

Not a sailboat owner but whenever I see these V berths and the single berths near the chart table I think there should be a grab bar to lift your torso and slide your legs in sort of like the bars we had above the top rack in Navy berthing. The more time that passes the better a nice Westpac sounds, even a little counter narcotics cruise to Columbia would do. I just would not want to deal with the way some officers treat enlisted like children. That BS got old fast and kills morale. I do miss being at sea, watching the dolphins, the clear night skies, and the conversations that we would have on the long night watch. Time and distance makes everything look better.

Given that budget, time, and preference keeps me looking at the smaller end (25-35’ ish) would love to see more boats like that. Also - speaking of small boats have you got ANY idea what make/model the gorgeous light blue sloop is in your opening credits? Second harbour shot & she’s just a very pretty boat. I was wondering maybe older cheoy Lee or vintage Pearson? Would love your guess as it’s likely to be more accurate than my own 🙂. Many thx in advance.

Hers a question. Why is the standing headroom on sailboats so low? Is it a center of gravity thing? Is it a so you can see where your going thing? Something else? Although i noticed you could stand up in that one.

    • @YachtHunters
      @YachtHunters  2 года назад

      Yes yes yes and yes
Even though you spend probably less than 10% of your time below deck standing up, designers always try to give at least 6+ or minus feet of headroom in a boat. There are a few people who will need more headroom but overall that is a good starting point. In the older boats with deep keels that were integral to the hall the headroom measurement started somewhere below the waterline. As the Bilges got flatter the architects had to raise the sides of the boats to get headroom without having an offensively large Cabin top.
Keeping weight low on a boat is extremely important aspect of understanding the stability of a boat. The lower the center the greater ability of the boat to stand up to heavier wind and carry more sale for speed etc. it is very nice to be able to stand up below especially for cruisers but rarely do you find headroom in about less than 25 feet long. There are exceptions. There also is the aesthetic aspect of design to consider which goes to our soul as much as anything else. Very important
