Great advice! And if your fly gets stuck while fishing roll cast to free the fly up from the snag before just breaking it off. And learn to cast using both hands if possible!
Hello Dan, noobie here. Could you give some advice regarding how you would cast in a fast current situation? I found it challenging to pick up the line and cast back to where it was. Thx
Those are very good tips. I wish that all fishermen had the courtesy to go to another place. I've experienced this bad manors. Definitely check regs. I learned a hard lesson..once. I fished a rvr that had rotating closures n well, it didn't workout so well. Keep the good videos coming. God Bless n Fish on!
Good morning, FFD! Bought my daughter one of those inexpensive-package setups and you're 100% right about getting what you pay for. Luckily, the rod is rather excellent for a beginner and the reel, while heavy for an experienced angler, works fine. The line was TOTAL garbage and we wound a mid-priced replacement to get her started - and now she fly fishes (although not as often together as I wish...). So, one does not have to spend $500 to get into this obsession (until waders, boots, etc. become a necessity). Not sure I agree with "no such thing as a perfect cast" 😉🙃. ☮ from North Idaho.
Just about to start fly fishing in UK Saw you stood there in the rain, “must be something relevant to me in this” Yep some very good sound tips that I hadn’t thought of, many thanks 👍 I will check out casting video…
Googans are the worst. I can excuse someone new, but I far too often have people walk in on me and start fishing without a word. I can tell after watching them cast if they are new. Most aren't. Many come from places where it is not uncommon to fish in close proximity. A guy from NY walked in on me ( claims to be a guid to boot) last year and after wading in and starting to fish just below, he asked what I was using. I said a nunya fly, but was considering switching to a 10mm. If I find people fishing a stretch, I speak to them to find out which direction they are fishing and then move off in the opposite direction starting well past them.

I would like to more about that smart phone mount you have. I've been looking for something like that. Can you share where you got it?
I put this together myself using an old GoPro chest mount and the top of a cheap smart phone tripod from Amazon.
@@FlyFishDan you should market that

That is pretty poor form for sure
Les débutants ne peuvent pas faire d'erreurs avant de commencer, puisque c'est en commençant qu'ils deviennent débutants.
Ah, la sagesse des débuts : là où les erreurs ne sont que l'apprentissage de l'expérience !
