Fix PS4 Slim disc not spinning unrecognized

After I dropped my PS4, discs would no longer spin after being inserted and I would eventually get an unrecognized disc message. After watching many videos on RUclips and verifying that the connecting rod and rollers were intact, and no other obvious issues were present, I realized that the little white disc ended up coming out of the carrier. Simply placing it back in the carrier fixed the problem. This may have been a fluke situation for me but I figured it was worth posting since I was unable to find any videos that describe this potential problem.
If you need to understand how to disassemble a PS4, there are many videos that can be found here on RUclips that will show you how. It is not difficult if you are not afraid to do this sort of thing.

My disc drive carrier was all together I think it’s the thing that spins the disc by the lens reader is probably broken but this video has helped me a lot and I just ordered a new disc drive

Bought a used cheap one used to make some noise and don't read discs, in my case i think the lens was just a bit dirty, it does it's job again now! Thank you

Man I might be having the same problem with my brand new ps5..I bought it yesterday, try to play a game..but I could not hear the cd inside spinning..no disc icon appeared in the top of the screen like should,not even an unreadable disc message from the console..just nothing..it didn't do anything like I'd never insert a game..I supposed it has to be some sort of disc drive issues..what do you think?

I have something similar. Starting your first disc is easy. I can play as long as I want until I replace the disc with another one. then the console tries to read it and stops. I hit the housing with my hand from above and the disc started spinning and the reading was correct. I remember taking it apart several times before. I think my problem is the same, I have to deal with it...

I thought this might of been my problem. I took the top off my ps4 and the medal cover messed with the two black arms and slipped the disc in and it worked for a day or two and started doing the same. so I took it apart again took the disc taker out and messed with things in there and some how got it working again. It worked for a few days and now the disc drive laser just gose back and forth on it's rails and the disc isn't spinning. I don't know now

Buy a new disc drive. There are two lasers, one for cd/DVD, one for Blu Ray and games. You're describing a burnt out Blu Ray laser
