Hillsborough, NC. its the town and just about 10 miles from my home. Great to see you down this way. There's plenty of abandoned textile mills in the area if you want to check them out...
Loving the attention to detail you always add in , Dan - for example - the little wooden signs and the rules . Your keen eye always makes the vids extra enjoyable .
Before the Interstates were built through Florida many of the old motels & motor inns are still in business one right after the other when you drive the state highways through tourist towns, pretty cool.
Great video! It is always cool when someone explores places near you. I have passed by this place many times cutting through to the highway nearby. It is in a very nice, historic town. As always, be safe and thanks for sharing!
I remember when this place used to be operating still. I was a very young kid but my parents frequently passed by this place. I can't remember when it shut down but the memories are from 03 and 04.
This not only looks like motels I remember from when I was a kid, in the '40s, it sort of resembles vacation lodges in the northwoods. Looks nice, pleasant surroundings (aside from the traffic noises). Another video I've revisited from time to time; good one, guys.
Hi Dan, I was wondering if you ever do any Geocaching while on your adventures...I dont know why I never thought of coupling Geocaching and UrbEx till now...but seeing how many places you've been to, your bound to have come across a few caches! That would be cool.
Originally it was the Ja-Max Motel, named for the owner and his wife. Late 40s early 50s. About a quarter mile west the same owner built Holiday Park, with pool, bowling alley, roller rink, buggy rides and picknic areas. Also owned the Daniel Boone complex on the other side of town. A wonderful man who built a lot of homes in the area as well. The last I remember the motel being open is just a few years ago, by some folks from India I believe.
You should've stopped in Downtown Hillsborough since you were there. It's a really old colonial town. There's a Masonic lodge from 1823 and the Colonial Inn is an old Abandoned Hotel and restaurant that was built in the early 1800's as well. Anyway, if you ever get a chance to get back this way you could get a lot of great footage.
I was just remembering thing an old friend and I used to do when we were in 7th or 8th grade. We both lived in Santa Monica Ca. There were houses that were being condemned to make room for more apartments but especially condos. So she and I would go in the houses to look around. The other thing we would do is ride very old elevators and get creeped out.
If you ever get a chance Rebecca I've done some videos on Hillsborough and its History. Yeah I told Dan he should've stayed longer and got some good footage of the downtown area. It's so old and colonial like a small New Orleans lol.
+Dan Bell, WOW, When I started watching this video I had to look twice for one reason, I am currently living in a motel that looks almost like this! Question to you, Should I film my vintage motel that is somehow still open for business? I think one of my mattresses is as old as this motel! Now i'm wanting to show you this one that is just as old as the one on your video. Let me know please and thank you for all of your videos. They are interesting to watch.
+dudegiga Sheesh.. Let the guy give us variety. Matter of fact, you go put yourself in dangerous situations and we'll see how many "more nightmare videos" you want.
So sad they painted the arts & crafts stonework white like that. Probably to expensive to run now that people want all sorts of amenities and aren't easy on/off major highways. Mackinaw City/St. Ignace, MI has many like this.
I'm sorry if I came across as rude when I posted about the fruit punch. It was supposed to be grape flavored and I was angry at the time...Anyway, GREAT VIDEO!!! I clicked on the LIKE button as usual. Gotta go feed the squirrels so they don't bite anyone.
www.landandfarm.com/property/Hillsborough_Motor_Lodge_PRICE_REDUCTION_-2524018/ Looks like the owners lived in the big white house. The land isn't cheap.
Did y’all have permission to record in this property. I know that this property was sold in 2022 but before then the owner had a sign of no trespassing sign.
I am enjoying this new channel, great work as usual!
Another one of Dan's Road Classics. Great job guys !!
Much love for these videos as usual. Well done Dan again for this xxx
I like it when we get to catch a reflection of you in a video, I don't know why but it's fun. Looking good Dan! Enjoying all these new videos.
I've passed this place before, glad someone explored it

I love the stone work on that building. One doesn't see that often anymore.
Loving the attention to detail you always add in , Dan - for example - the little wooden signs and the rules . Your keen eye always makes the vids extra enjoyable .
+Hackney Bird thanks!
Sad to see an old place in this condition. Thanks for the upload, Dan!
Dan Bell. I love your videos. I like how you are respectively doing your filming. Great steady hand. Keep the videos coming.

I live in this little town! It is called Hillsborough, NC. A very historic town, very important during the civil war.
Oscar Llanos hes also on the wrong side thats fairview which is the hood
And really important during the Revolutionary War. Cornwallis was in town for a while.
I remember when this place used to be operating still. I was a very young kid but my parents frequently passed by this place. I can't remember when it shut down but the memories are from 03 and 04.
I pass by the Motor Lodge all the time and I never knew what it was till you made a video about it.
Waiting for the big This Is Dan Bell video. Love all the Film It that keeps me busy till then though.
I'm enjoying them! ! Good job 👍

It was put up for sale a few months ago. For $560K you can buy this old motel plus an adjacent duplex. Too bad it's on the wrong side of town...

Mattresses stacked to the ceiling = literal bedroom
Me n my gf went there in the early 90s!!!!we were kids!!!barely enough room for the bed!!
Your mic looks like one of the "Critters" from that movie series.
+BuccaneerBruce It's an audio tribble!
I live a mile from it people lived there for years
I was so hoping that you'd walk around to the back.

Nice location!
Please check out Holy Land in Waterbury, CT. You'll love it!
Has anyone ever checked out Will Krupinsky's videos? He is the young man that is traveling with Dan. His videos are great too.
+renita1387 Yes, will has some great stuff on his channel.

Honor to see my Hillsborough!

Is that a mini zepplin attached to your phone? Sounds better. Hillsborough is very close to where I went to film school.
We'll get this lodge restored and reopened to its former glory.
You can buy the place for a mere $749,000 after the price reduction - www.landandfarm.com/property/Hillsborough_Motor_Lodge_PRICE_REDUCTION_-2524018/
wow
Interesting. Wish i could buy it. Can only imagine how much it would cost to completely renovate it?
interesting none the less! 👍
Cool place
You call it a "vintage motel". I call it a dump.
That's a 6S Plus? I have one and the camera is beyond good, and the 4K video is so cool.
so many great channels dan richness
looks like it could have been re used as a private home for extended family members. like several elderly siblings and or disabled folks
i love the film it channel ☺
Beautiful old glass at 1:56.

Next time your in NC you need to go to the devils tramping ground or Hannah's creek swamp at night.
I've been in this area but not on that road.
Hillsborough, Orange County.
WHHAAT? Im only 30 minutes away from that town... been cool if I would have bumped into you guys :(

Furry microphone FTW!! (Fuck The Wind)
Ur mic cover looks like a 'tribble' (star trek ep)

Hi
+Hidden Lady hello
Did y’all have permission to record in this property. I know that this property was sold in 2022 but before then the owner had a sign of no trespassing sign.
Has anyone else notices how fat Will is getting? He is so cute with all that extra weight!!!!
No animals or pets... lol.

Dan, your friend is cute lol :)
Peek a loo.
As URBEX I would award you 1.5 out of 10 - at best.
Is it just me or has Will put on some weight? I'm not trying to be rude or anything tho.
Just because you say "not trying to be rude"... Doesn't make it any less rude. Lol.
youre rude as hell.
Sorry, but I'm honest as hell.
