- Here is a demonstration of excessive rear diff pinion backlash. There is absolutely none of the typical other symptoms such as whining, roaring or any gear noise. I suspect it's just slightly out of spec and will do another video showing how to get the backlash back in spec.
Thank you for sharing this, its the same sound my dodge is making.
Gotta be vibrating at some speed...
Hi. Did you make a video on how to get the backlash back in spec?
Please do an update video, I have this exact problem
I'm looking for how much play the pinion have
Thank you for sharing this! I have a Chevy 2500HD four-wheel drive I thought it was the u-joints change those and still having the same problem, I was not sure if it was a transfer case or the transmission! And I was also thinking it could be the rear the differential the pinion gear, so can you shed some light on what you did to remedy this problem???
bro i have the same problem....i've tried replacing the engines mounts, throttle position sensor, u joints, trans mount, trans oil/filter, resetting the ecu. I have a chevy k1500. Have you found a solution yet?
@@alfredobocanegra92 the problem is the rear differential the backlash is too excessive and I believe that this is caused by lost of preload on the pinion gear , if you have a lot of mileage on your truck, Jack the rear end up remove the tires remove the driveshaft buy an old manual torque wrench one that Read's in inch pounds only for used pinion gear bearings constantly moving in a rotation clockwise with the inch pound torque wrench it should read anywhere from 15 inch pounds to 30 inch pounds if they are brand new pinion gear bearings it should be close to 30 inch pounds if not Dead on 30 inch pounds... My pinion gear was reading about 6 inch pounds so that is a great loss of preload for the pinion gear so basically everything is loose therefore creating excessive backlash on the ring gear... The only remedy is to rebuild the pinion gear assembly which consists of two bearings and the crush sleeve and setting the correct for new bearings which is 30 inch-pounds and then adjusting the backlash on the ring they sell kits for this and marking paste to correctly set the backlash and how the pinion gear rides on the ring gear!!!! Not a very easy task to do it's very meticulous!!! I hope this is helpful
@@user-bn3ji1tm3oNo preload or bad pinion bearings will make a horrible loud roaring sound between 40-55 mph. You’ll know it when you hear it, you’ll still hear it over the radio. It doesn’t sound like a clunk or a whine, it sounds like a 36 inch electric fan running in the car with you.
did you ever figure out the problem? My truck sounds the same. When i first accelerate i hear a click and shift of weight almost, same when i stop. Also, when i shift into reverse it clicks. Anything helps, thanks.
My jeep does the exact same thing. Did you ever get a resolve for it?
@@unccliff1 The G80 Gov Loc was worn out. I now have a Yukon Gear Duragrip.
