    You can definitely switch into 4 wheel drive going up to 40 to 50 mph. You only need to come to a stop to switch into 4 low. To do that you stop. Switch into Neutral, then switch from 4 high to 4 low. But going from 2 high to 4 high you can definitely just switch while you're driving...

    UPDATE - The dead battery thing - Here in Steamboat we don't often lock our doors. Thus, I'm guessing some electrical items (stereo, lights, etc) may have been left on. I have since locked it with the key and that turns everything off. Have not had the issue since.

    I have just purchased a 2020 Revel as well from Lichtsinn RV in Forest city...We live in Carmel California… So I know the drill… Flew out there and drove it home… Great ride no regrets had it since the end of September… I must say it exceeded our expectations… :-)… However I have a question for You… I have run the heater overnight and didn't have any battery problems at all… I'm curious I thought the heater ran off of the house batteries and not the chassis battery?...By the way we also have the blue gray… The only difference between is that I stripped all the decals off including Winnebago decals and revel decals...Would love to stay in touch with you… I feel like it's kind of tribal :-)...Keep on reveling

      Steamboat is at 7,000 and hadn't heard anything about needing to make adjustments. So far it's worked flawlessly. As for fuel, when I drove it back from the pick up it wasn't great. And I don't check it now. Mainly driving around town. I'm hoping the mileage will improve over time. My commute is about 14 minutes so I'm not putting on that many miles. Small town commuting ; )

    If you did not anticipated a difficult portion of the road ahead and already started climbing, you can try engaging the 4x4 in reverse gear. I tried it twice and it worked. My Sprinter is the 2016 model but technically very similar.

    • @Steamboatsmyhome
      @Steamboatsmyhome  4 года назад

      Good to know. My fear is you're headed up a huge pass and halfway up it turns from rain to snow and there's no place to stop. Error on the side of 4x4 at the bottom of the hill.

    Cool use of the drone shots. Most places I go, drones are banned so to date I haven't invested in one, plus it would be hard to drive and control the drone at the same time... :) . One question, as a fellow Coloradan, I'm taking my Revel to Winter Park for our first trip with boondocking this weekend. You said you ran the battery down and had to jump start while running the Esbar all night. How did that happen? My understanding was that the chassis and coach batteries are not connected. Are you saying the Esbar runs off the chassis, not coach?

    • @Steamboatsmyhome
      @Steamboatsmyhome  4 года назад

      Great question. I can only assume I left some other electronics on as well (radio, lights, etc). I left the key in the coach and didn't lock it. Normally when you lock it everything is goes out. But that might not have been the case. I have since locked it every time and have not had the issue again.

    3:42 What is 'lane assist braking'?
    I love the option of a 4WD RV, but surprised by needing to stop/almost stop to shift to 4WD.

    • @Steamboatsmyhome
      @Steamboatsmyhome  4 года назад +3

      LAB - will sound a beep if you drift to R/L over the lanes. If you don't steer back into the lane, the van will actually apply the right or left brakes which will pull you back into the lane. Yes, a decent idea but I don't like it. I tend to optimize roads and conditions. Thus, I'm not a fan of this feature. And Yes, stopping sucks for 4x4. But, driving in 4X4 is like AWD so it's not bad.

    Really enjoyed, nicely done and wonderful videography! We have taken our Promaster van in same snow conditions and it performed equally as well with no issues, but anything more extreme would likely be too much without chains. We should actually put on actual snow tires if we did this often (our tires are snow rated, but not full on snow tires). Still 4x4 offers much better clearance and that extra capability if/when needed, especially on rough or off roads. Curious if your coach batteries are inside the van or underneath (it looked like that was the case). Wish ours were inside. Note; we saw one video where folks said they had their DEF freeze, but they were in Alaska as I recall, and during a serious cold snap. Very nice van!

    • @Steamboatsmyhome

      Yeah - DEF at negative temps for long periods of time can cause issue. We don't get that cold for longer spells. I believe the primary van battery is under the floor in front protected and warm. The remaining batteries are under the van and getting snowy.

    What is the coldest overnight temperature you started at? I was at Hahns Peak Roadhouse and started at zero degrees F. The local Colorado diesel guys all thought it should have a block heater. Do you wish you had one? Do they make Blizzard tires in LT?

      In the negative for sure. Maybe -10?? No issues. I hear it's not until -20 to -30 that the DEF starts having issues

    Awesome video Charlie. Kiko here from Vegas, remember me? Nice clear shots by the Mavic 2. You won't believe this, but I found my Revel there in Frederick, CO at Transwest. They gave me the best deal. Hoping to close the deal soon. Love to see you enjoying your Revel. Keep making those awesome videos. Cheers! - Kiko

    I don't understand how Winnebago can call this a 2020 model. It's on a 2019 Mercedes chassis and was assembled mid year '19. Seems confusing if not deceiving. Otherwise, good video, very informative and I'll even go as far as saying it's entertaining.

    • @Steamboatsmyhome
      @Steamboatsmyhome  4 года назад

      Might have something to do with the delay for the Mercedes is so long and by the time Winnebago gets them and does their things it's the following year.

    • @sethriddle7615
      @sethriddle7615 4 года назад +1

      The 2020 is in reference to the Revel model not the van. It's pretty common to see the old chassis style on a new class B upfit.

    • @Steamboatsmyhome
      @Steamboatsmyhome  4 года назад +1

      @@sethriddle7615 My guess is it takes Winnebago several months to get the chassis and then the complete the build out. Thus, they want to stay relevant and deliver "new" product.

    Great video! were you able to do something to adjust the sliding door rattles when driving?

    • @Steamboatsmyhome
      @Steamboatsmyhome  4 года назад

      FYI we live on a dirt road so it mainly rattle on that road. Much less on pavements. And I feel it's in the area os the passenger seat belt??? SO no, I have not done anything about it. Other have complained about the window shade but ours seems to not rattle there.

    Hey Charlie, Great video. I'm interested it getting a Revel too. Was wondering how tall you are (I'm 6' 3") and how is the interior head room in the coach and headroom in cab? I know the Winnebago specs say 6'3" but am interested on your take. Thanks.

    • @Steamboatsmyhome
      @Steamboatsmyhome  4 года назад

      Hi Paul - I'm 6 foot. And it feel roomy. Driving it's not issue. Inside the coach, it's right at 6'3" or a shy less. The bed there's plenty of room.

    Are the stock tires bf Goodrich ta ko2's? Looking for options for our sprinter. How is the road noise on open dry highway?

    • @Steamboatsmyhome
      @Steamboatsmyhome  4 года назад

      Yes, those are the tires. Again, they are decent in the snow. But yes, they are a little noisy in dry pavement,. I ended up buying some stock take offs from a 2019 Sprinter 4x4. Steel wheel and different tires. Better for snow. But I have not swapped them out this winter. Next year.

    great video, going to be selling our Westy and getting a Revel as soon as we finish our move to Utah. Agree heated seats would be nice I replaced my VW seats with Recaro's and installed heaters when I put them in never use my heater now. I bet you could get aftermarket heaters for the Revel, my upholstery guy added quick connects so when I turn the seat around I unhook the wires and no problem. ENJOY

      I will look into that. And the coach heater takes a while to get warm as well. Life in the Rocky Mountains : )

    hi so with the 7 speed and the 4 wheel drive what kind of mileage? and how much solar do you have? and that is a 144 wheelbase? thanks

    • @Steamboatsmyhome
      @Steamboatsmyhome  4 года назад

      Hi Mike - They say the 7 speed should improve mileage but so for I'm just driving around town and it's not great. Maybe around 14-15. I don't often check for accuracy. The solar is 200 watts and that is stock. Yes, it's the 144 springs. Thanks

    • @Steamboatsmyhome
      @Steamboatsmyhome  4 года назад

      Hmm. No issue here. These are not the diesel engines from the past where you have plug in the glow plugs. This van starts right up at -10 and it lives outside.

    Hey man what a great video. Great Overlanding toy.
    I recently went to dealer, and test drove that badass, I liked it. What is your MPG? The dealer said its 20MPG combined. Yours must have been a lot heavier and should have more consumption, right?
    thanks in advance

    • @Steamboatsmyhome
      @Steamboatsmyhome  4 года назад +1

      Yeah, I heard that too and maybe once it breaks in. Around town I'm around 15 mpg

    • @camvan7396
      @camvan7396 4 года назад +1

      No you won't get 20 mpg combined. I have a 2019 4x4 with stock Michelin all-season tires. I get 16 to 18 mpg over 7,700 mostly highway miles. It's a lightly loaded upfit, nowhere near as heavy as the Revel. The MPG is my main disappointment; I got about 19mpg average (80K miles) in my 2015 sprinter 4x2 cargo van same 6cyl engine. I blame the aerodynamics plus the 4x4 losses. The huge ground clearance must make a lot of turbulence.
