Envious.... I used to travel the desert and find myself in moments like this. Just enjoying the view, peace and quiet.. the journey. Nothing tops it. Now I'm on the East Coast. Pay to wheel in mud and trees, you can't just "drive" anywhere. I miss the sand. Enjoy watching your videos. Thanks for sharing them!
Once again second to none videography editing and hosting skills!!!! Please always keep this style and RUclips channel running the way it is. Unlike some other channels out there.
Thank you thank you thank you... this just is who I am so that'll be easy. Just need a couple more subscribers to help things along and can't seem to get there... lol
autoedit you well deserve those subscribers. I'm sure this channel will blow up in no time. This is becoming my favorite off-road channel in a hurry. Well it is now my favorite!
You know FRED!!! haha...that's cool. Sweet vid. Anyone who thinks the desert is a dead zone only has to spend the night out there and see it come to life.
Dude you should have your own show on the Travel Channel or something. This is really great work man! I really want to take my Jeep up there some day and camp out. I camped out in the Mojave Desert a couple years back and there is nothing quite like this kind of trip. :)
You probably dont care but does anybody know of a method to get back into an instagram account?? I somehow forgot the account password. I love any tips you can offer me.
@Byron Aarav thanks so much for your reply. I found the site thru google and Im waiting for the hacking stuff atm. Seems to take a while so I will reply here later with my results.
This episode was great, over-landing style exploring is a more realistic situation for me, learned something new about the Russell cabin and flag protocols. Awesome!
It's still one of my favorite shirts! I'll be scouting out the trail later this year to see if the floods DV experience last month made them impassible.
Thank you for sharing your adventure Jason. Especially the brief history lessons of specific points along the way. Your JKU is not only looking good, but fully functional as well. Keep up the great work!
I watched your Rubicon Trail video, thought it was great. Decided to watch another one of your videos and I amazed to see you were in Ballarat! Since the mid 70's I've been to Ballarat probably 200 times. At first as a child with my folks and then once I was old enough I spent 3 summers in Ballarat on my own. My folks would leave me in the care of Paul and Lil Jones and their two sons Nick and Tom. I've been all over Panamint Valley including Barker Ranch several times. I've got stories you wouldn't believe.....
I want you to know that you and your friend Fred have given me the the Jeep bug! Can't wait to get one. Just turned in my mini countryman on a lease. Now trying to figure out the next step. I am 55 and still alive, better late than never. My younger brother just bought a jeep and he absolutely loves it. Looking forward to seeing another part of our country off road! Thanks for being you. Blessings.
Well now, that is amazing to hear! I'm thrilled to hear about you wanting to get out for some adventures. Good luck on getting a Jeep and making it your own!
Wow, just Wow. As an East coast guy who has never been out West I cant imaging those views in person. Just amazing. Would love to visit that cabin(in my Jeep) some day. Thanks for the video.
Thank you so much for this video! You were a big part of my inspiration for leaving the winter in Idaho and starting the new year camping in Striped Butte Valley. It is an amazing place, thank you for sharing!
Man you are a legend! I was just planning a trip for labor day up there(despite this heatwave coming)! Great video! Good Insight regarding the trails history and difficulty. Thanks man! Cheers from Long Beach, CA!
Thanks so much! A good rule of thumb is to get some elevation at night to help drop the temperature so this trip was a bit risky staying so close to the valley floor but worked out.
Thanks for the vid. Just spent three days overlanding all over the park in my modded JKU. Thanks to your vid, I checked out all the areas you went to. Had a blast.
I love your videos. I just moved to California and can't wait to start exploring. I just need my Jeep to hurry up and get here from Germany. Once it gets here and the weather cools off I might have to take a trip down to death valley and camp for the weekend. I would love to check out the places that you showed in this video.
That was my favorite video that you have done. Great balance of product review, Overlanding, Jeeps, and back country culture. I spent all weekend putting on my RTT. Can't wait to get out and hear the coyotes too. Thanks for the video!
Great video. Planning a first Jeep camping trip with my son in June. Was thinking about central Cali mountains to do some fishing but because of this video I'm thinking about Going out there. Thanks for taking us along on your adventures!
Totally would have take a trip there! Only gotta wait till I can get a Wrangler haha. My dad owns a stock 2010 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited with 165,000 miles on it. Runs like new. Only still has to do oil changes. Totally shows the reliability of a Jeep. Definitely will try and get it as a first car 👌
I spent the weekend on top of my JKU in the tent as well. I always get excited when I see the notification from youtube pop up on my phone to alert me that you've added a new video. They're always top notch.
Great video. The Barker Ranch part was also very interesting. Its ashame some people can't leave those old buildings the way they are for others in the future to see.
My son and I did a Jeep tour this summer thru Lockhart Basin outside of Moab. We had 2 nights of tent camping. It was pushing 100 degrees during the day, and it was windy. The first night was absolutely horrible. We didn't have a rooftop tent, so we baked on the hot ground. Second night we slept in the Jeep. It was much better, but I will never tent camp in the heat again. Those cabins were really cool. Looks like a fun trip. I still love your Jeep.
I love these types of videos, love seeing the history and trails that I'll probably never make it out to, or learn about ones near me that I could visit.
Awesome vid Jason....learned some of the history thanks to you...On a recent hike of the Grand Canyon last year, I found a horse shoe...I kept it even though hiking there with a 35 lb backpack isn't too much fun, especially on the climb out....now I know how to properly place that horse shoe on my shed...would love to drive my TJ out there someday soon...
Great video! I just started exploring Death Valley. I’ve been told to keep the doors on these cabins closed as much as possible to keep the mice out. I’ll bring some traps with me when I eventually get out there.
What an amazing video dude. I live in the UK and have been trying to convince my wife to let us get a wrangler then modifie it so we can tour europe. She has always been very hesitent due to the fact they are heavy on fuel and the tax here in the UK on the wrangler is shocking, but after showing her your video and the freedom it offers to your life she has started to warm to the idea. Again dude, fantastic video and thanks for the knowlage.
Awesome video Jason, love it. Dead jealous of what’s on your doorstep. We got some pretty cool terrain here in Australia but it’s a bit of a drive from where I am. Man, Death Valley, those donkeys! Now I know where they got the inspiration for the Star Wars Sand People sound effects!
I own a ram so I watched your videos on yours but once I hit play and saw half of this video I immediately went as far back as I could on yi ur channel. I'm all caught up now and I look foward to your videos more than dirt every day 🤣 don't stop bud! BTW where can I get info on upgrading my drive shaft for dummies.
Thanks so much, I really appreciate you subscribing and saying hello! If you have any driveshaft questions, just go to the Tom Woods website or just call them... they rule. www.4xshaft.com/
Terrific video! This is one of my favorite channels, I really like your style of editing and presentation. Making this one looks like so much fun! Doing precisely THIS type of trip is exactly what I have in my mind while I search for a decently price JKU (Or new Taco TRD OR). Reality will never meet expectation though, as I live in RI and this type of trip is just not possible unless I drive most of the way across the country. I really envy you westerners for all the wide open spaces you have access too. I was in Moab earlier this year and was blown away both by the natural beauty of the desert, and the vastness of it.
@@AutoEdits a year later, I FINALLY just got a rig. Had it a week now, a '13 4Runner Trail Edition. Rear locker, Crawl, etc. Can't wait to get some mods on her and take a road trip out west this fall!
Thanks Jason for another excellent video! Gives me inspiration to just go out and enjoy exploring. Don't have to go out and trail tough terrain to enjoy yourself.
Really great video! Loved the history and views! I grew up next to a sheep farm in IL and the farmers keep donkeys (preferably wild caught) in with the sheep to keep the coyotes away at night. My bet is that the donkeys had the water hole and were keeping the coyotes away. Hense all the noise both groups were making! Can't wait until the next adventure!
I saw the horseshoe upside down and immediately thought of the good luck - glad you shared that tid bit. I'll echo others: your videos are top notch and uncommon for the RUclips landscape. Keep it up! Been a follower ever since your WJ journeys. Have you ever thought of hosting your own off road overnight tours with small private groups that have 4x4's but want a guide? I think you have a niche. Last question: Did you cross shop your jk with the tacoma when you bought it? Am interested in a rugged 4x4 I can daily but take off the beaten path to find my adventures myself, and find myself leaning more on the Tacoma side. Thanks for sharing your content and adventures. Hurry up and finish your mustang! So close!
So much to thank you for and answer!!! Yes... Tacoma TRD Pro was top on my list when I was vehicle shopping (to be completely honest). It was just a very expensive vehicle at $37K for a new one and I ended up getting this used JKU for WAY less than that and I was influenced by an off road mentor of mine (Fred Williams) to go Jeep. The plus of the Jeep is the aftermarket is amazing for upgrades and the Toyota... not so much... but the Toyota is just so dang good.
I'm looking for a capable offroader too, and am going back and forth between the two. The Taco makes a sort of practical sense, but the Jeep is so damn cool! Plus, like you said, the aftermarket support is unbelievable! You must have hit it just right though, because I can't find even a used JKUR (post '14) for 37k or under that doesn't have sky high miles or is from Canada.
Your videos make me want to take my TJ out more. I live up near Sacramento, but I feel like I need to take the route you just took one week. Amazing views. Keep up the great content!
Like Brad’s Trail Recon, this was great to watch and informative, which I really appreciated. We live in Pasadena and I’m waiting on a Ghobi rack. We’ll make your trip in mid September. Thanks for the documentation. Would love it if you could list your starting point/route. All the best, Dave
i remember seeing your challenger vs video years back and youve grown a good amount im sure youll get thru that sub block in no time cause you deserve it
Man, A buddy and I did this route this past weekend. My first time out there and it was amazing! But boy! The Mengal pass was A LOT Tougher than you made it look!! P.s. A big reason I made the trip out there was due to this video. I just had to see it all for myself. So thank you!!!
Nice vid great editing. I to am new to RTT camping and love it. Need the fridge next and figure out how to better pack my 2 door JK with gear. Looking forward to your next vid.
It's really interesting that you aren't the first to be looking at either of those two vehicles. Right to the end, I was interested in the Tacoma TRD PRO or this and because I ended up getting a killer deal on this Jeep and knew I wanted to tinker on it...went Jeep. Good luck on whatever you get and go enjoy it!
i prefer the tonneau cover over the canopy cover for my my colorado because then i could not fit it in the garage just a swag in the back and im good to go :)
You: -Searches Eezi-Awn tent, the original RTT, sees the $2400+ price and realizes the ARB was just a cheap copy! But free is free. Getting the cover mended wouldn't cost much, I hope he doesn't wreck it even more!
Damn dude, I love your jeep so much! I have a 2014 wrangler, also a manual, but it only came with a soft top so I can't put a tent on the roof! Love the vids!
Awsome videos Jason and awsome jeep build! I'm slowly working on mine and really want to do one of those rooftop tents as I do a lot of photography and would make it nice for me to find a spot and stay there for a sunrise shoot... Keep the vids coming. Cheers!
Awesome awesome video man! I've been there last month in Death Valley. Was almost not doable so hot, but realy nice place to be. Great car also, if I wasnt living in Holland, where everything is totaly flat, i would buy a JK for sure. Keep the video's coming, love to see the Mustang drive.
After spending the rainy season in Central America I am looking forward to some desert. We're in Honduras now, so of course it won't be summer anymore by the time we make it to Death Vally. 117! That's Hot!
That sounds amazing! Well, it's a "dry heat" in Death Valley so it's not so bad... lol Fall and Winter are the best times to visit anyway. Be safe and have a blast on your travels.
Nice trip up Golar wash, and Barker Ranch. Golar looks like it's been recently graded. Is the yellow bus still parked at Ballarat? Been there myself a few times with my Jeep club. I too was lucky to see Barker Ranch years ago when the house was still up, and the cabinets were all in place. It is a spooky place. The sheriff conducted an extensive search for bodies around the ranch a few years ago, maybe 5 ore so. They didn't find anything, or anyone, buried in the surrounding area. The yotes were really howling it up the night you were there. I've got to get back there once the temps are down to the mere 90's! lol
Heads up. You can buy moving blankets at home depot cheap perfect for dry CA UT NV camping. I have slept in them down to 30 degrees no problem. A plastic tarp is must have. The fridge is the best. Hot drink in cold and cold drink in heat is must!
I wish I could do this, I live in the midwest and nothingbut flat farmland and private property signs. Great video honestly keeps me excited and for sure going to plan a trip to do this next year

I love your jeep videos, please post more!!!

Awesome history lesson, if I am ever out there I can pass this info to my kids
Awesome video and exactly what I plan on doing which is exploring different places. The ARB fridge is a definite must do.
Thanks! Yes, that thing is the best addition for sure... I'm even using it in the garage right now to just keep my beers cold.
Thanks for the vid. Just spent three days overlanding all over the park in my modded JKU. Thanks to your vid, I checked out all the areas you went to. Had a blast.

Awesome trip Jason. Want to do the same trip with my little one. Thanks for sharing.
That was fun. Thanks for sharing it!
that was awesome can't wait to one day take my own death valley trip.
i remember seeing your challenger vs video years back and youve grown a good amount
im sure youll get thru that sub block in no time cause you deserve it
Wow! Thanks so much and it's so cool to hear from someone about the WAY BACK stuff!
This just as fun to watch!
Man, A buddy and I did this route this past weekend. My first time out there and it was amazing! But boy! The Mengal pass was A LOT Tougher than you made it look!!
P.s. A big reason I made the trip out there was due to this video. I just had to see it all for myself. So thank you!!!
Awesome!
I wanted to see how that tent would work! I'm gonna consider it for sure now!
Sweet! Thanks for watching
Nice vid great editing. I to am new to RTT camping and love it. Need the fridge next and figure out how to better pack my 2 door JK with gear. Looking forward to your next vid.
Thanks so much! We're learning together on that stuff!
This makes me want a jeep so bad, but I will be getting a newer Tacoma and build that up. Or maybe get both someday! Keep up the good work!
More Jeep adventures! Love the vids
Me:
-Searches ARB RoofTop Tent
-Sees US$1,500+ Price
-Decides to camp on the bed of the truck under the tonneau cover
True... makes me appreciate the hand-me-down even more... lol!
Yes! Thanks for the video, and glad you had fun, reminded me I want to go camping on the desert too
i prefer the tonneau cover over the canopy cover for my my colorado because then i could not fit it in the garage just a swag in the back and im good to go :)
Either that or a tarp and a couple of sticks as a roof lol
You:
-Searches Eezi-Awn tent, the original RTT, sees the $2400+ price and realizes the ARB was just a cheap copy! But free is free. Getting the cover mended wouldn't cost much, I hope he doesn't wreck it even more!
Such an awesome video! Can't wait to do the same!
Thanks! Go for it!
Damn dude, I love your jeep so much! I have a 2014 wrangler, also a manual, but it only came with a soft top so I can't put a tent on the roof! Love the vids!
Thanks for watching and saying hey!
this is great Jason! really enjoyed it! I wanna go!!
Howdy Bruce! Thanks so much dude... looks like we should schedule a trip!!!
Loved the cute little mouse. He sure had big ears.
It was so fun to find that guy during the editing!
Awsome videos Jason and awsome jeep build!
I'm slowly working on mine and really want to do one of those rooftop tents as I do a lot of photography and would make it nice for me to find a spot and stay there for a sunrise shoot...
Keep the vids coming.
Cheers!
+stoney roberts Thanks so much for watching! The tent is great for just making it a bunch more comfortable out there.
Amazing video... keep the jeep vids coming
+jared r I'm trying!
Hey great job , excellent jeep jk info jeep it up
Hey Thanks!
Wonderful adventure! Thank you!
Next is duel battery kit or solar panels awesome video totally enjoyed it!
After spending the rainy season in Central America I am looking forward to some desert. We're in Honduras now, so of course it won't be summer anymore by the time we make it to Death Vally. 117! That's Hot!
That sounds amazing! Well, it's a "dry heat" in Death Valley so it's not so bad... lol
Fall and Winter are the best times to visit anyway. Be safe and have a blast on your travels.
You really deserve a million more subs!!! Best on youtube!!!
+Attila Morvai I'll take any I can get so thanks!
I've got to get back there once the temps are down to the mere 90's! lol
+mariodesmo Cool to hear more details! Get back out there!
Great video honestly keeps me excited and for sure going to plan a trip to do this next year
Great vid man ! Gonna go to barker- appreciate seein gohler wash- the Trailhawk should be fine
