Your entire channel is a lifesaver. We're still in the renting phase of life, and every time we move to a new place I find years worth of grime in every "out of sight" corner; your videos save me so much trial and error, and sometimes even elbow grease. Love that you stick to natural solutions as often as possible too; I can't stand fumes. Thank you thank you!!

This is far and away the best cleaning trick I have every tried - it works amazingly and is actually super fun to do! We got our new oven 2 years ago and we had left the racks uncleaned, until now. This got 98% of the very caked on food/grime off those racks and it was an absolute joy to use a soft sponge and easily take off the black/dark gunk and see the beautiful stainless steel underneath. Because it was 2 years of stuff, I let this soak in dish detergent with abrasives for 24 hours and it was honestly so satisfying (and easy) to get these clean. Bonus - after I cleaned off the towel, drained all the gunk down the drain, and rinsed off the tub, the tub was cleaned because it had the detergent in it for 24 hours 🤯🤯🤯 A must try if not only for being a really fun science experiment!!!

My mother moved into a place where the oven racks hadn't been cleaned for years. Being older, she didn't have the strength to scrub them anymore, so I used this trick and both she and I were amazed at just how well it worked! Within an hour, the baked on grease was softening. Within four hours, it all slid right off and I just wiped it off with a sponge. A few bits in the corners needed scrubbing, but I didn't have to scrub hard or long at all. Yes - I had to clean the tub, but that needed to be cleaned anyway and that's SO much easier to do than scrubbing oven racks. Thank you for this. It worked like a dream and my clean-freak mother was very happy.

I tried this three days ago.. I did not have powdered laundry detergent so I used my liquid laundry detergent. I also put in a scoop of Oxy-Clean. What the heck; I figured it might help a bit. I purposely let the racks soak for about 36 hours as I have done a lot of baking and cooking with the pandemic:). I am sure that many readers can relate to this.
I took them out, gave them a rinse, worked on some stubborn spots and got almost every bit of baked on gunk off. I was impressed!

Just wanted to check in and thank you for this post. I have a double oven, and the grills had been cleaned maybe twice in 10 or more years. I did the self clean routine but didn't like tackling the grills. I had assumed I would have to take them outside use something caustic to clean them. This time I set the oven to self clean and decided to look for help in the RUclips universe and found you! I did everything you suggested except I added one of my dishwasher pods. After a day I checked my 4 grills in the tub and most of the gunk had just fallen off. What remained only required a very little scrubbing with a scouring pad, and the remaining 5% easily came off with my steel pad. The grills look like new! My wife could not believe the result! Not sure if adding the Dishwashing cleaning pod helped or not but Thanks again!

I thought I would try this method. I went searching the stores for the detergent. I return to the bath and filled the tub with HOT water placed the 3 racks in the water and covered them with an ample amount of detergent. A lot of detergent. I returned to them 7 hours later. There were spots that did come off but the bulk of the aged grease that did not come off. One of the tools that I used was a stiff nylon/brass brush. Finally I finished up with BBQ grill cleaner. It is not as easy as this video shows. Cleaning oven racks is a tough job unless they are cleaned weekly or monthly, or don't use the oven at all.

Oddly enough, I did actually clean my oven racks after playing this video! They soaked overnight & I scrubbed them up the next day. Forgot to add my drip pans but did clean them the next night by applying a paste of the dawn & baking soda, letting them soak, then going after them with a cleaning toothbrush & soft abrasion scrubby. It took right much elbow grease but my enamel covered drip pans, not to mention my stovetop too, look almost brand new. Thank you for the tips. It's helped tremendously.
I've sent pictures to one of my sil & she loves the deep clean of the kitchen. She says I'm a, ""Mama on a mission,' while dear hubby is saying, 'Make it Stop - Please????' because he's had to start putting his things away for a change. LOL!
Today, I bought the small monochrome microfiber cloth set. I wish the 2-piece set of mini cloths were available but they weren't. I couldn't swing the cost of the larger pack, though I'd love just 1 of the mini cloths. Perhaps I can pick up a few later in the year. I have a large pack from Walmart but I couldn't help but wonder about what everyone says regarding Maker's cloths. Can't wait for my order to arrive so I can find out for myself.

Forget that you are pretty. This oven tip was amazing. I was struggling trying to clean these buy hand. I dropped these racks in a HOT tub with a towel under them with lots of dish soap and let them soak. After 6 hours I scrubbed them pretty good. What you forget to say is that there is the pretty, childish bubble wand that you get as you life the racks out of the tub. lol. I brought these into the kitchen where my wife scrubbed and rinsed them again. They look amazing. We will cycle this into our "sectional" house cleaning. THANK YOU

Cleaned my oven racks following these instructions and I am pleased with the results. I used several cubes of dishwasher soap in the bathtub with a towel down. My oven racks were very bad. I left them overnight and used a small section of a toilet scrub with foam on one side and a tiny grid of "plastic??" on the other side. (that works great on toilets that I got off Amazon. They are pricey 2 of the scrubbers are about $8.00 but I cut them small and they are lasting longer.) I would say about 10 mins of the wiping and light scrubbing on the racks brought them to the point where I was happy. I will be moving early next year and will do a better cleaning then. I would advise what someone else said though and use a kiddy pool outside as I had to clear/clean the tub when I was done. Thanks for the tip.

If it is summer time & hot, the easiest way to clean over racks is to put both in a large green garbage bag with a cup of household ammonia. Tie the bag closed and place outside in the hot sun. Let sit in sun for 12-24 hours. Rinse & done! I was told this trick by my authorized repairman for my oven - Paul is the greatest!

I bought a plastic tub large enough for the oven racks & side hangers. I soaked them in hot water with about 300g soda crystals (£1 for 1kg here in the UK) for about 4 hours and 5 years worth of baked on black stuff just fell away from the racks leaving them looking like new. I recommend using rubber gloves when removing and wiping down the racks. Also worked on the door glass when I realised it was removable. This will be a biannual event now as it's so easy, just wish I'd discovered it years ago.

+Marie Clark My grandmother's trick was to put the racks in a garbage bag, spray heavily with oven cleaner, tie the bag shut, and let that sit on the driveway. Wait a few hours or overnight, then rinse the racks right there on the driveway using a garden hose. That's still how I clean my oven racks.

Thanks for this advice. It's great. But I've got another problem for you, which is a little harder. I've got grill in my oven and my microwave - you know, these metal curvy tubes under the ceiling of the oven. They are not removable and it's really hard to get there. But when you grill something, the fat and oil always jump right on this surface covering all these curves. Eventually it starts to smell and leading to the risk of inflammation. The only way I see to clean it, is to remove my oven's door, literally squeeze myself into the oven (well, at least my upper part) and try to remove that smelly greasy mess. But I strongly believe there gotta be an easier way. Especially for my 30kg and 10 years old microwave.

@Melissa: Liked this video the first time I searched for it on ur channel and now it just appeared again on my home page just in time before the holiday baking season begins and I liked it also this round. Perfect timing to give the oven a good do-over right after the Halloween baking. Don't use my oven much during the Summer months. Generally it starts getting used again after late Spring into September. I always clean it the Spring also. Basically 2x a year, every 6 mons, April & Oct. Your so right ... when you turn the oven on to preheat and cook the steam drips from previously baked foods are burning off and it stinks. Time to clean it again. I've used the tub to clean the racks in the Fall but it never occurred to me to let them soak overnight. Could be because I had three children to bathe so that wasn't an option, but now they are grown & gone from home so this makes sense to do first is allow the oven racks to soak. Less scrubbing later, like a pan. LOL. Really enjoyed your video. Thank you for sharing.

I did this last night/today. I added some white vinegar and baking soda to the mix and also used powdered dishwasher detergent. It worked great. A wipe down with a sponge got the loosened up junk off very easily. Thanks for the great tip.

I have a gas stove with heavy sectional units on the cook range which is accumulating gunk. I'm gonna use the oven rack method to take care of this build up... hope it works cause wipe downs certainly isn't doing the job. Thanks for all your tips - keep it up. I binge on your videos and my home benefits from your talent and tips.

I just started soaking my oven racks, and threw in my gas grill racks too.
But as a guy that loves/hates housework, I just wish appliance makers would make oven racks, stovetop racks, fridge shelves and bins that can go in the dishwasher, the same goes for gas grill racks and accessories.

I used to use oven cleaner outdoors to clean my oven rack. now that I live in a NYC apartment, and it's winter out, I think I'll be using this more gentle, indoor method of oven rack cleaning.

This is what I did today and highly recommend it: laid a lawn trash bag on the rock in my yard, laid the oven rack on top, sprayed well with oven cleaner both sides (use long gloves) wait recommended time, 3 minutes. Filled large tub with very hot water. Wiped off cleaner. The little bit that remained I used a SOS pad. Sprayed down with garden hose. So easy and they look like new. Low fume takes a bit longer .

Dresden219 you could but that would be an expensive way of doing it seeing as how many tabs you’d need.

My personal tip for this is to always check the label for instructions. I assumed I could just put my bright green scarf in the washing machine and it stained everything green, it was dry cleaning only :'/ it completely lost its beautiful color too.

Good idea!! I clean my racks by putting them in the dishwasher. It doesn't completely clean the racks but does soften the build up. I then follow the same process as you buy wiping off the last bits. It takes just minutes.
