    my buddies dad back in the 80s wore his hat that way, he'd drive the fishing boat at full speed and that hat never moved, i always considered that some sort of miracle.

    It is really so funny to watch these old Johnny Carson episodes from the early 1980s and you realize that that world just doesn’t exist anymore and it was so cool it was so America

      those guys are still around in the south and I am from Northern Alabama but left after high school and jointed the US Army back in 1970 and only went back for short visits. I lost my southern accent many years ago and live now in the Philippines for over 30 years. The last visit back was 2019 just before covid hit and I had a hard time understanding some of my Kinfolk as they are called hahahaha

    My grandfather spoke very similar to Frank. When I was little, I couldn't understand him. I would have to look to my dad for "translation." But don't let those accents fool you. My grandfather was most intelligent man I ever knew. He was a mechanical engineer and held several patents. And he was a US Marine in the Pacific and fought in two campaigns - Peleliu and Okinawa. He never talked about that, though.

    I remember when this premiered! I was pregnant with my first baby and laughed so hard the baby started jumping around. 🤣 Never thought I'd see this again. 😊

      @@alan30189 Maybe because my OB was female she had a bit more dexterity than the male doctor who delivered Frank. 😊😉 My son is doing great. I think having a good sense of humor really helps you in being a mother, to raise children well.

      I saw this live too! I didn't watch much Johnny Carson, he was on pretty late. But I saw this one and remember laughing so hard! Nobody was ready for this, not Johnny, not the audience, nobody. It just happened. Never thought I would see it again, hehe.

    I always remember something Billy Connolly once said about not finding other comedians funny but listening to normal everyday folk and the mad things they do in their lives making him scream with laughter... I think this sums up that pretty well. Great stuff!

    Johnny had such a great variety of regular people on the show. The lady who collected potato chips that looked like "things" is one of the funniest shows. Johnny was hysterical.😂

    I loved ole Frank! Bless his heart. I bet when he returned home they never let him live that down, that he was on some Yankees show. Hahaha..... But if you're going to be on a Yankees show, Johnny's show would be the one.

    This was better than the ninety something year old farmer who had two girlfriends! Frank took control of this whole interview. I’m definitely going to be watching this again for a good laugh!

    Carson was the KING 🤴🏻 of late night. I think his last show was in April May or June 1992. I had to record it bc my boyfriend later husband was training as a firefighter

The newspaper mentions that Burt Reynolds saw Frank O. Hill’s genuinely funny 1982 Tonight Show appearance and offered him brief parts in 1983's "Stroker Ace" and 1984's "Cannonball Run II" [Hill's scene was deleted in Cannonball but Reynolds "kept in the movie a panel truck that advertised Hill and his jewelry"].

    Carson often had regular folks on who had some measure of notoriety, and they were always treated with complete respect. I suspect he enjoyed interviews like this more than many of the “celebrities “.

    Watching from Australia these old Johnny Carson shows leave the late night shows of today for dead . As a matter of fact i could say the hosts of the late night shows now are just fools except for maybe Conan who i can laugh with .

      Huh? He had great quirky people on the show & showed their hobbies - hobbies THEY were proud of & THIS show probably brought them a LOT of recognition. It was an honor to go on Johnny's show for anyone - from everyday people doing everyday stuff to entertainers trying to get their big break. Johnny was respectful but of course the audience was there to see him react & enjoy meeting them. Nothing wrong with what he did. Nothing at all. They had fun & everyone enjoyed laughing along with the quirks. Relax already!
