I remember Vernon Booger Ray on the Carson show. I really liked him and often thought about how he lived, in a free country. It is such a low down dirty shame that our country is not that way anymore. The spirit of Booger is still strong but this country needs to catch back up. I can just see him right now, riding in that old wagon waving people to go on by while keeping two faithful mules under control with a pair of relief mules tied to the back and singing to himself. Booger was a fixture in the 60's and early 70's along US 70, generally between Idabel and Durant although I have seen him up toward Heavner. Toward the end of his life he hooked up with a former Sheriff and conducted trail rides for groups from Wright City to Cloudy, drew a lot of folks out of Dallas and Oklahoma City. He was a well known and well remembered character.
I saw Booger Ray many times as he rode in his horse drawn wagon, and once I asked him if I could take his picture - his answer was "Yes, but I can't dance". I told him I didn't want him to dance, just pose for a picture, and he did. It was a treasure.
Forrr suurrre!! Amen to that! I just survived the Paradise fire and I love nostalgia. I lost everything including all of my old records and old record player, but the 1976 ford step side pickup barely made it more work to do on it and it will be on the road! Nostalgia should live on! 😃
vern wallen I got hooked on David Letterman way before he really caught on. I was working swing shift in an Oregon sawmill around 1979 or 80 and couldn’t get to sleep right away after work, so I would turn on the tv and have a shot of orange juice and Canadian Club to unwind at around 1:00 a.m. Sometimes his humor reversed the effects of the nightcap and then it was harder to get to sleep. All in all, Johnny was truly a very funny man and an American treasure that I never really grew to appreciate back then. Up until then I didn’t stay up late enough to watch late night tv as a logger and millworker kept early morning hours. Johnny and Dave had a similar sense of humor that I can relate to.

After Johnny left the scene in 1992, I couldn't bear watching Letterman trying to make a joke of these type people--everything was a joke. Johnny, like you said, talked to them like real people. I really miss Johnny because of exactly this fact. Whether it was a 105-yr.old lady, a woman who collected odd-shaped potato chips, or a farmer, gold prospector, etc....Johnny always didn't make them the butt of jokes like Letterman. Leno was a fair transition, but looking at it now, it's about only the Hollywood elites, pop icons,, very unfunny comedians, etc. I miss Johnny terribly.
BigBingFan, you're so right. Johnny was great! He would allow himself to be the butt of the joke. He was kind and gracious to regular folks like Booger Ray. Today's late night talk show "comedians" are terrible. I hate them. Letterman and Stephen Colbert would have treated Booger Ray like dirt.

Even though i grew up in a small town Australia during the 80's, watching these commercials is like watching a time machine. As ours were done in the same fashion, especially ones made by the local tv station. So cheesy

During the 60s, my best friend and I had husbands who worked shifts together. When they worked evening and night shifts, we were on the phone when kids were in bed, and we'd laugh like fools for 90 minutes.

KARK TV IN LITTLE ROCK. I was attending the end of my first year of college at the University of the Ozarks in Clarksville, Ar. I may have seen this. I now live in Fayetteville, Ar. Cool ! This great! My grandad was born in 1912. I miss that generation of people. I knew a man that was 104 in my hometown of Mulberry, Ar . When I was 5 in 1973, he walked everywhere, chewed a plug of tobacco and had a small bottle of whiskey. He wore overalls and a straw hat. He was born in 1869, not long after the Civil War. Its amazing to think how close we are to history with some of the oldest folks. Find out everything you can from them young ppl! At 50, I try to relate thingscto mygrown kids about how things were that I learned from my grandparents. My grammy is 93 now and I ask her to relate stories and we have it on video. Thanks for posting. The SE Ok mountains are still a very rugged country. Bigfoot central! Lol !
Carson is STILL one of the few entertainers I can binge watch. I really can't think of any other for that matter. Here's my reqmts for comedians that I'll watch more than once. They have to be good. But they have to be decent. No foul mouth words every other word. I need to get the feeling from them that they truly appreciate their audience. That's about all I can think of right now. Back to binge watching Johnny Carson. Just like Booger Ray, who is honest & sincere... You can listen to him and in under a min, you know he's a entertainer ya wanna listen to. We need more Booger Ray's and Johnny Carson's. But they were one of a kind. Thank ya kindly.
This is excellent example of the Tonight show I prefer . Today's Tonight show with Jimmy Fallon seems to be straight laughs and music and games . Johnny Carson's had much more of a human element to his interviews.
Mutlap absolutely they spout LEFTWING propaganda disguised in bad humor ! - Colbert Fallon Kimmel Myers Conan have train WRECKED Late night tv and comedy, gone are the days of clever humor and good natured humor. Today we have hateful mean spirited lazy humor " cheap jokes" great job Colbert and friends of wrecking late night tv for a large part of the country with your liberal Crap !
It was just good...I watched with my parents and it was clean decent fun. I definitely do not agree with left wing SJW’s and I don’t want to hear any political crap...even if I agree with it. Do what you are paid to do, ENTERTAIN!
Jeremy Rush I agree - and Johnny Carson absolutely did political jokes " and in America we are allowed to make fun of the people we put into power" the best compliment Carson received was that you could not tell what his own politics were because he was equal opportunity rib jabber against both party's. I personally am most disappointed in Conan was a great fan of the NBC New York Conan BUT ever since his show went out to Hollywood " he has soled out" to Hollywoods liberal agenda and his show has diminished because of it " have not watched any of them in years" Craig Ferguson was my last because I enjoyed his mindless humor with his sidekicks Geoff the Robot and Secretariat the Horse.
Booger Ray was one of the nicest and most intelligent people I was raised around. I always wanted to go with him on his wagon. I thought he worked for the Circus lol
the ultimate nomad...way before RUclips channels! Carson making $25 million a year and owned Carson Productions working 3 nights a week...and still beloved and killing it!
I don't think it was a matter of money. Carson was fresh off another acrimonious (and expensive) divorce here if I remember correctly. Booger had the good sense to swear them off, marriage-wise. Lol It's been amply proven though. Money does indeed buy you happiness. Which is not to say you can't be happy without it, nor that you are necessarily free from misery with it. You will just statistically be happier if you have it. :) It's more accurate to say money prevents misery than buys happiness. You just need enough of it (whatever that means), not shitloads of it. Financial woes are a leading cause of suicide, stress, divorce, crime, etc.
@@hunglikeahamster3248 I would like to see those studies that proves money makes you happy and even then I would take them with a grain of salt. If money buys you happiness then why can you go to so many third world countries where people have just enough money to meet their basic needs and they are some of the happiest people you will ever meet? I am not talking about impoverished places where people are starving, those people are indeed unhappy. I lived in the Philippines for a full year and those people did not have much but they were very happy and very hospitable, they would share food with you even if they were lacking and they would give with a big smile on their faces, thankfully I observed this from a distance and was able to buy my own food. On the reverse side, if money makes you happy then why have there been so many celebrities and famous people who have committed suicide? many who have had every material possession and financial security they would ever need and yet they were miserable inside. Money can do a lot of things but it cannot make you happy, for example, It can help alleviate stress by taking away the burden of bills but that in itself does not really make someone happy, it just gives them a reason not to worry as much about the cost of living. True happiness comes from a combination of many things such as how someone sees and understands life and what they do with the time they are given, it comes from having a purpose or a mission that you are actively trying to fulfill, it comes from making a positive difference in the lives of those around you or perhaps your community, town, city or even the world. There is a very good chance that if you are a selfish person, you won't be happy, no matter what your bank account says.
@@The_Story_Channel I'm not sure what issue you are taking with what I said. My post was situationally in response to the original poster, and this ol' guy vs Johnny, and I made many of the same distinctions you do, and could have made many more. Throwing celebrity and fame into the discussion muddies the water however. I could argue either way at length but I think the point is already moot - did they start out seeking fame, fortune, power? None are great starting points. But as they started somehow, my only comment is that fame warps many people in all kinds of ways. I'd put money itself further down the list, except the aspect that their rapid coming into it plus the cult of celebrity tends to allow and make assholes out of those who don't see the danger. But again, celebrity doesn't equal money nor vice versa. It's a perverse and wildly skewed subset and should be held separately. You may have seen the documentary, Happy, by Roko Belic? Good movie if you haven't. You'll find TED Talks given by him here on YT and you can rent the movie as well. It's not entirely accurate however. Most of it is more a matter of societal (or even geographical) happiness or lack thereof, and comparing the US or Canada to India really isn't useful except as a reminder that our *rampant* materialism isn't likely to make us happy and in fact does the opposite. BUT, much higher levels of materialism are *required* here. Can't afford a car? In many locales, good luck with that. You'll be unable to get a job, or you'll ride public transit along with the scum, or you'll walk, or you'll stay put and otherwise do without. Geography in general factors very much into what one "needs" to be happy here, and those needs are very disparate. The reasons should be self-evident so I won't bother listing them here...
@@The_Story_Channel I wholeheartedly concur with your sentiments, Mr Canuckken. Your comment is well presented and very true indeed. The content covered all bases to which indicates that money is just a means of exchange for goods and services, it has very little to do with happiness. In reality, money is more of an interference factor and truly the root of all evil and mostly contributes to social instability. 🙄

Even though i grew up in a small town Australia during the 80's, watching these commercials is like watching a time machine. As ours were done in the same fashion, especially ones made by the local tv station. So cheesy
that was good tv back in them days im glad i was able to enjoy it back then
We had someone here in Georgia that used to travel in his wagon pulled by goats. He was known as the goat man.
I'm from Georgia too and remember the goat man. I believe he travelled all over the southeast, maybe even further.
@@eaglepink1678 His son was murdered in Jacksonville, Ga. close to Macon. The goat man would back up traffic for miles on US 17 when it was the main hwy to and from Fl.
@@jimclark6256 what were the circumstances of the goat man's son's murder? Did the two know one another or was it some other scenario?

I live in arkansas and the local commercials are really taking me back. According to the map in the right corner its raining im my county lol
Johnny was a class act! I don't watch the late shows today because they are just nasty! Miss Johnny, so glad someone saved the tapes and we can still see him in reruns!!!! 💖💖💖
During the 60s, my best friend and I had husbands who worked shifts together. When they worked evening and night shifts, we were on the phone when kids were in bed, and we'd laugh like fools for 90 minutes.
What a joy that was!
WOW WOW WOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
From a mad keen 74yo Aussie fan.
What an incredible person.
Booger should write his memoirs.
It's a damn shame there aren't more like Booger. We could learn a lot about life from people like him.
There are, they are called homeless now.
@@benzamg32m68 He’s not at all like a homeless man. He’s more like those who travel all over in a RV. The only thing is that his horsepower is actually mule power. Pretty cool!
Johnny’s shows were the best! Greatly missed!
Used to drop by my grandparents at steels corner when he was home he was definitely on of a kind
The host wasn't obnoxious and the guest was interesting and unique . You don't see that anymore.
The host? Do you not know Johnny Carson?
Joe Blank open your eyes, it’s available nightly...
It's an absolute shame the way the show is today. Nobody beats Carson.
They’re all about “hate Trump” now.
bigwavedave_63 bigwavedave_63 ... The last show John did was the last time I watched. Today’s talk shows are for less discerning folks. 😎
@@catdaddy3302,
It's good to know I'm not the only one who feels that way. TRUMP 2020! KAG!
Johnny was so respectfull and polite towards Booger Ray, no snide remarks, etc. He was truly interested in the man's life.
Andy McWilliams you should hate pieces of shit
thank you for that. i loved seeing booger ray. what a great uncle he was, indeed.!
Thanks for posting, Alex, and the commercials were interesting. Wow!
Original Tiny house living off grid! God Bless Booger Ray!
Lol !
singing American who is connected to the land and knows his surroundings, there is city people who are lost in the fog, booger rocks
Wow Booger Ray was grand. Lord I know Johny Carson wasn't perfect, however nobody has achieved his level no one. I miss his show.
Johnny was very shy meeting people that his staff wanted to have friends meet Johnny, i know, i met Johnny 3 times, the last being April 17th 1992.
The commercials were awesome back then. Very entertaining!!! And not a million commercial of boring repeating stuff.
The original tiny home inventor.
...so sad, I miss Johnny, no one compares.
This is excellent example of the Tonight show I prefer . Today's Tonight show with Jimmy Fallon seems to be straight laughs and music and games . Johnny Carson's had much more of a human element to his interviews.
most networks are left-wing propaganda machines now. Social media enables other views to be viewed, thankfully
Trump is comedy gold.
Came for booger, ended up ff to commercials. Hard to believe how we've regressed as a society.
Yes we have....back when Presidents were elected and not installed, cnn wasn’t a liberal mouthpiece, and free speech wasn’t a great lie....
This man is a national treasure 💙. He was a great joy to watch and listen to him singing ♥️. Booger Ray.
I adore the inclusion of the classic commercials. Thank you!
ALEX YOUR GREAT UNCLE IS SO COOL,,,AND REALLY FUNNY,,,I JUST LOVE HIM,,,THANK YOU FOR SHARING WITH US,,,
Miss him so...... nothing like him anymore
Booger Ray was one of the nicest and most intelligent people I was raised around. I always wanted to go with him on his wagon. I thought he worked for the Circus lol
Johnny Carson had a way with people. He interviewed many people with quirks of some sort.
the ultimate nomad...way before RUclips channels! Carson making $25 million a year and owned Carson Productions working 3 nights a week...and still beloved and killing it!
Awesome Guy another Real American, Johnny was the Best, got Real People and talked to the on national TV, BRAVO
you know i was just wondering, who seems the happier, Booger,or Johnny, and i think its Booger, money aint everything.
I don't think it was a matter of money. Carson was fresh off another acrimonious (and expensive) divorce here if I remember correctly. Booger had the good sense to swear them off, marriage-wise. Lol
It's been amply proven though. Money does indeed buy you happiness. Which is not to say you can't be happy without it, nor that you are necessarily free from misery with it. You will just statistically be happier if you have it. :)
It's more accurate to say money prevents misery than buys happiness.
Glad you kept the commercials!!! Some I remember most....not so much.
Man I would have loved to have met him. My love and I just split up, and I'm moving into an RV. When I head up to see my Brother, i'm going to stop by his gravesite and say hi.
Booger Ray was way ahead of his time, wagon RV and live by his own rules
Oklahoma pioneer. Nice chap.
I’ve been trying to remember the name of the clothing store with the old lady who said “All of the best dressed men.” Who would’ve known I’d see a local commercial from the 80s here on RUclips. Lol
