cheers mate, had an R3 for 2yrs now (after having 2x BEL's stolen from the car over the years), have been happy with all of them really. TY again, great test!
You are dead right.I Have the R1 uniden and have picked up instant on on many occasions further down the road.Bloody impressive detector for the money.😀
Did u buy all those detectors. Must hsve cost alot . What do u think of the uniden DFR7 r nz ? Do u think nz will get multa radar. I saw the DFR7 for $549. Have u ever seen it cheaper. Cheers
I have now tested the same course on the V1Gen2, R4 and 360C. This location seems to be terrain limited therefore all these detectors retested on another day with as close to the same setup as possible gave essentially the same result. Therefore sometimes, you have to take the sales hype with a pitch of salt. In my tests and practical scenarios all the top end detectors are pretty much equal. This is where choice of features and personal preferences become more important. This is why I have now prepared the R7 149 International for release. This is now quieter in testing than the Uniden R8 since the R7 now has better K blocks, a better implementation of Auto City mode, and lots of extra cool stuff the R8 may never get. I do like the V1, but to max sensitivity on K band it needed K verifier OFF. That then gives a lot of extra false alerts. The V1 and JBV1 also cannot support directional GPS alerts, let alone all the extra GPS enhancements features on the R7 International. Laser falsing on the V1 is also something I found very off-putting. Therefore, I'm really glad to be back testing the R7.
DFR9forNZ. Currently working on a new DFR9forNZ firmware which ensures more consistent K band detection of the 2021 updated redflex vans. This has K1 segment set 24.00-24.10. DFR9 also has better display and better GPS features.
DFR9 SE is now available. This is the best version of the DFR9 ever. This also supports both NZ and standard tuning. Therefore anyone with a DFR9 should send me a message as well worth having it update to the SE spec even if you live in the USA. I.e. DFR9 SE like the R7 149 International, R4 and R8 all now can have Auto City mode. DFR9 SE also has better GPS features than the R4 or R8. Only the R7 149 International currently supports the same new GPS database format.
I would get an R7 but they don't make a left hand drive version which is annoying. I love the direction arrows from my Max 360 and absolutely love my R3 but it lacks the arrows. Great test location in Mangaroa.
Most radar detectors can detect laser, but some are much better at detecting laser than others. The Uniden's don't do so well against laser, whereas the escorts tend to do much better. The V1Gen2 looks to have the best laser sensitivity (and being able to detect the laser from furtherest distance outside the beam (i.e. sensitive to pick up laser light scattering from moisture in the air)). However, the V1 also gives quite a lot of laser falses. In many cases, even with the best laser detection on a radar detector, is never going to be adequate. You really need some kind of laser stealthing and/or laser jamming capability. Relying on any radar detector alone against Police LIDAR is never going to give you anything close to 100% protection. In many countries laser jammers are not legal, they are tend to be very expensive and often need to be installed professionally.
Each detector was set pretty much as I'd recommend for NZ. All detectors had K band On. This was K Extended on the US140. The DS1 had the NZ region setting and K Band 24.000-24.100. R3 was running K Narrow NZ- 24.050-24.100. Ka Segmentation was set 4,5 and 6. K Filters generally set ON.
Would u still bother getting a radar detector now days. They dont even pick up the vans in roadside. And useless against laser . And falses from parking sensors now too
I bet my new R4 would have got it from the start..and my redline American with segments 258 would have done much better...the definition of original red line is American bonded LNAs and segmented..with RDR off...red line is getting no respect in America new Zealand and Australia...
Retested the R4 on the same course. No difference, Many alerts at range become terrain limited. It gets very hard to separate the best detectors over range. I personally hate the R4. Worst laser sensitivity of any detector I've ever tested. K filtering is excessive. No K band limits. Auto City doesn't even tell you which mode its running actively in. R7 149 International in terms of features and general performance and almost no false alerting puts the R4 to shame. If you want to swap an R4 for an R7 for a few weeks I can open you eyes. Trust me, you won't miss the R4.
Radar gun has been set to fire remotely by phone activation - very clever my man

Great analysis, Cheers for that!!
Awesome vid Mike!! :)
Do please more test with the Genevo Max, and what is your opinion about it the Genevo Max compared to the other dectoctors???

Cool work, would have loved to have seen how a V1G2 performs in this test.

@@mikefearn5213 if you’re experiencing numerous laser falses, the V1G2 may need a repair. I was in the same boat, had to send in for repair.
Hey, which would you recommend the DFR7 NZ vs DFR9 for all round use (inclusive of redflex vans)?

Just get a V1 dude. Don’t get tied to one brand.
Can these detect laser speed guns?

@@mikefearn5213 Thank you so much. That is very valuable information. I was thinking about Radenso DS1. Any review about them?
What settings did you have on each detector? With K band disabled and narrow band Ka, the Uniden R series should be spot on.
