Something to consider... Often, LEOs do not run in constant on mode. They run in instant on mode for only a few seconds. This is where having a detector with the longest range will save your bacon much more frequently.
Don't know what an LEO is but I do know that the CHP often don't sit there with the radar on constantly. They'll flip it on for just a couple seconds to get a reading and the flip it back off so as to help avoid the radar detectors. Is this what you meant?

I have had an R7 for several months already. Its pretty good but I would definitely want additional laser detector/jammers since it is currently the largest weak point. The R7 gives me so much warning for troopers, usually at least a full mile so I have time to either slow down or get up to 150 and safely cruise by.
Anything is better than the detector I had years ago. It turned into a "new car" detector when the fancier cars got radar for adaptive cruise and auto braking.
The R7 can also have those issues but you can fine tune the detector to completely ignore certain frequencies. Cannot speak for the detector you had but it is possible that you can set it up to ignore those frequencies.
My escort 8500 would go off every damn time a Chrysler Pacifica went by. EVERY SINGLE TIME. I threw it in the door pocket after 6 months of a 90 mile commute
The one thing I also like about the r7 is the auto mute memory is pretty fast after about two or three drives to work on the same route It picked up 2 areas of speed sensors for school zones and didn't go off after that.

Updating the r7 is one of the most difficult things and I really wish they would have implemented a better solution as well as newer features on the r8 such as one the max 360 is capable of. I really don’t think people will upgrade to the r8 and spend $250 more than the r7 just for the buttons to be on the front lmao
I bought a uniden R3 and it's honestly so good ! There's a lot of K and Ka bands on the street with modern cars and sensors (or something like that giving false alarms) overall great for the price if you aren't in the market for an R7 priced radar.
For many years I had the Valentine 1 but then got rid of it because even after the factory upgrade it was picking up every safety alert on vehicles. I then bought the V1 Gen 2 and that problem is mostly solved. It is a major improvement with long range detection too. I've noticed more officers are now using rear facing radar in their vehicles and an increase in Laser which is deadly accurate.
Another test that could separate detectors is a quick trigger instant on test. Some detectors are slower to respond to a sudden burst of radar than others, and in the old days, if the burst was less than a second, some detectors wouldn’t alert at all. Another is going past radar that is facing away and only hits you from behind as you go past. Some detectors are better at this than others. Yet another test is effectiveness against different frequencies. The Whistler may do well agains a stalker at 34.7. But guns that shoot 38.8 and 35.5 can be more of a challenge for all detectors, especially 35.5. I suspect the range on all detectors goes down with the different frequencies.

I run an uniden R7 for my rig. Had it 3 years haven’t got a speeding ticket since has about a mile range as well front and rear. The r8 just came out as well but the r7 works perfectly.
Usually when police are actually trying to nab someone for speed rather than just making people slow down, they're trained to visually identify speeders within 5mph then they activate their radar to confirm the speed. This is why you should never speed alone on the roads. Also when testing it helps to use a more modern radar, that Eagle II you had is nothing compared to the new lasers they use now
I have been running an R7 for about year maybe 2years and it picked up a highway patrol 2.5miles out on a rolling hill type road. He was turning the unit off an on, traffic was light. I picked my R7 on sale for $340-$345 after tax.
I love my Max 360. It picks up cops from over 2 miles away and filters out almost every false signal and even points out speeding and red light cameras. I only payed 500 dollars too.
Bought a Uniden R8 a week ago. Took a bit of dialing in to get things configured properly but now it's quiet and very attentive when need be, as it should. R8 is using Uniden's all new detector hardware platform (shared by the R9), including front/rear antennas to provide direction location, Bluetooth, laser & red light camera radar detection, ability to control Uniden laser jammers, can be controlled by remote keypad, etc. Escort's filtering is so slow on K & KA bands that their high-end detectors are often seconds slower than Uniden's to alert. Also, R8's sensitivity and response times are industry-leading. I pair it with the Highway Radar app on my Android phone for what I feel is an excellent experience.
You had the Whistler set on C instead of P. The P setting is long range and C setting is short range. The second C setting will cut out all of the false alerts. You really need to do it all again.
Well said! Using the Whistler Z11R+ now for about two weeks, works well for me and the expectations I had prior to my $46 purchase, 12/23/23. Have owned MAX3, Cobra 480i, Radenso SP, Radenso DS1, Uniden R3, Uniden r7, and Escort Redline previously.

Where I live (Sweden), Radar detectors are actually illegal, and we also use different radar bands, so I have to buy from abroad, but also be certain that it takes the right bands
The whistler isn’t giving false alarms. The traffic controllers are using the same band as the radar plus you haven’t set up correctly to ignore those readings. Let alone turn on K-pop mode. Good against stealth radar
I’m surprised a Valentine One was not tested. I have a V1 G2 detector. I went into custom settings and deleted X and K bands since police no longer use it. This eliminated safety radar, blind spot monitoring, traffic sign radar. It only alerts on Ka or laser. Years ago I bought a Passport Escort radar unit. It was an excellent unit until the power supply went out on it. I’ve had several passport owners tell me the same thing. I’ve never used a Uniden R7 model. It would be interesting to test against Valentine One Gen 2. The real issue is that in Alabama the State Troopers use instant-on feature to detect your speed. It can be really difficult to discern if it’s a false alarm or the real thing. Which is why you need the sensitivity and the distance to pick this signal up.
I been using the escort max 360 radar detector which I paid $600 for it. It does pretty good on detection but I don’t trust using a radar detector period unless I use my scrambler with it. What good is detecting police radar and laser out there if they are still able to see your speeds🤷🏽♂️ I was driving 90mph in a 60 and state trooper was sitting in the dark when he tried using radar on me coming from behind. As I close to him he turned on his radar and slowed down right behind em and he never moved period. That’s how a scrambler works. It slows more time to slow down safely without police seeing any speeds at a distance.
I'm wondering how all 3 running at the same time with interfere since they all are receivers. Running all 3 simultaneously would have avoided environmental variables between tests such as oncoming vehicles that may have had automatic adjusting speed control and the like. To my knowledge, none transmit any form of radiation at any radio wave links.
I love my uniden R3 and DFR1 only thing is when your doing some pretty decent speed and cops hits you with a LiDAR you're pretty much screwed because the detector will only get it once as soon as the beam hits your vehicle rendering you no time to slow down since you're already clocked.
I’m guessing the patent V1 had on the arrows expired and now all will have radar direction. That R7 looks very similar to the V1. I run the max 360 in all my vehicles and have been very satisfied with it.
Couldn't help but notice that you ignored the Escort Redline which is often hailed as the King of the radar detectors. I've been running it for close to a year now, and the falses are often rare to come by. The range is also farther than the R7 though I don't know how people feel about the price tag $$$.
Rocky Mountain radar scrambler works excellent 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽 Ok no my reason why i choose to use a screen all these years is because a scrambler makes your car a ghost and it doesn’t give any warning to police whether your using any such device because a scrambler allows police to see what they’re already used to seeing which is a mirror image reflection
my z11 picks up cops from about 1000 feet away on a straight stretch of road, about 500 on a curve, and in city mode rarely gets false positives. thing’s a lifesaver.
After watching this video, I was super stoked about a $425 R7. All the good radar detectors are $600+. But then I look it up and the cheapest I can find an R7 on the internet is $500. Not such a great value proposition at that price.
So basically the cheap one will do the job but the exspensive one is a good invesment if you have the cash to fork out. Which I will say one ticket avoided makes it worth it
Me too. I haven't had a detector I'm a decade, but I miss having one. I have used Valentine's since the Mid 90s, but I am curious of how it compares nowadays.
As previously mentioned, this test was solid. But for more technical testing the Vortex channel has that in buckets. Breaking down range by frequency for the top detectors.
Prior to this, I just watched a RUclips clip of a police radar van (in UK) in which they went through the camera and technology they have fitted in the vehicle. They can read your speed and ping you up to one kilometre away (0.621 miles).
If your in California you don't need any of that crazy filtering that leads to buying an escort 360. They are good but not the longest range which is important as LEOS will play tag with I/O. So R1, R3, or arrows R7, V1 gen 2, turn K-band off no need for that headache
Glad I found this video. I used to be a LEO and used to run radar all the time so i know all the tricks and how and where police may be sitting ect. I have never had a speeding ticket and i turn 40 this year. My wife though has a heavy foot. I used to have to get her out of tickets back when i was a LEO. We're about to go on vacation and I never let her drive bc I'm always afraid she is going to be speeding. I gotta go pick up one of the Uniden unit's today. Just for peace of mind. The problem is that instant on. When I first started driving I heard about radar detectors and If I had one I was told you can drive as fast as you want and never be caught. Well going off that and I suppose the person was telling the truth (radar always stayed on in the early days, you could always detect). So with that I went and bought the cheapest one I could get. I think I paid like 50 for it. Drove everywhere for like a week at varying speeds testing it out and it seemed to work well alerting me pretty reliably, until one night in the middle of winter. I met a trooper head on 70/55. Didn't even see it coming as the detector displayed green. Soon as he passed by the detector goes screaming 5 red lights and immediately within like a second goes back to green. He turns around and ends up writing me a ticket. He walked up and said I see you have a radar detector, how's that working out for you? Told me to get out of the car patted me down and let me sit with him in the passenger seat while he wrote the ticket since it was like 20 degrees out. He was nice and polite about it and explained what the instant on was and its designed to defeat radar. He even shown me how it worked by saying look toward your car radar and watch this. He had some kind of switch that had a RF hold and clicked it on and off. The detector went on and off just as before. He also said if the speed wasn't to high he would issue a warning but since it was 15 over he couldnt. Wrote cooperative on the notes and said when you show up o court don't mention the radar detector at all they hate when people have them. Your first ticket they usually dismiss. Day of court I just simply walked up to the DA and said it's my first ticket. He was well, since you have a clean record other than this, did you learn your lesson? He then ripped the ticket and copy and threw it away and said have a nice day. Until they can figure out how to beat instant on, radar detectors to me aren't really helpful...especially if you are the only car on the road as this was the case.
I’m curious how far away the radar gun picks up the car compared to how far the r7 picks up the signal. I’ve always heard if the detector is going off, they already got you.
@@GhostlyGhilleyeah I’m pretty sure this is true, I saw them testing speed guns and they have to psychically have it lined up on your car to get a speed
Missing lots of details. What filtering settings do you have enabled, what is the gun you’re using, what frequency is it tuned at? The false alert testing is rough.. especially with BSM signals being different on each drive. Are you filtering extra BSM on any detectors that ends up filtering out true signals like stalker K band for instance?

@@vancityboost8075 360 protection is available on every radar detector since effectively radar signal bounces in your car. The reason why they market as 360 is because it has antenna on the front in the back which allows for arrows to point to where the source is (same thing found on the V1 and R8)

i think the real edge is Uniden r7 and models up will detect in Redflex camera vans with very low hard to detect beam. even uniden r3 doesnt detect them in nz.
laser is like that, not radar. laser is what is sounds like, a literal beam of light they hit you with. radar more like a speaker throwing sound waves, if they're just sitting with the radar on or they check someone with a mile or two of you, you'll usually pick it up with a decent detector. detectors without jamming against laser tho is basically just a confimation that you're getting a ticket lol. jammers are also illegal in a lot of states so be careful.
I have an older whistler detector I got for free, it goes off constantly, which means I don’t even pay attention when it goes off. It makes it kind of useless! If there was a cop i would assume it was a false alarm
Where’s the Valentine one?? I’ve been running V1’s for about 15yrs. In every vehicle I own. (With updated models ) They work so well I’ve never felt the need to switch. They also have the adapter that pulls power from the OBD2 , concealed display and speed limit set point noise canceling feature. I’ve always thought about trying out the passport though…
I can’t begin to tell you how many citations I issued to drivers whose vehicles were equipped with radar detectors. All I had to do was leave the radar’s hold button on until I saw a vehicle approaching that appeared to be speeding. I didn’t shoot radar at just anybody. In fact, that’s part of the prosecution of the citation in court. You have to have a visual assessment and then say that based upon the visual assessment, I activated my radar and it confirmed what I believed I was seeing. The other thing is, who cares how many false alarms there are? It keeps you honest. It keeps you alert. I’m retired. But I’m buying the Whistler and keeping my eyes peeled for those pesky cops.
yeah Idc about the false alarms, I'd rather have false positives than false negatives. Plus I know where all the false positives are on my daily commute

Range don’t mean anything if you cannot block them 🚔 from seeing your speeds If your driving through Georgia police target speeds from the rears with LiDAR guns. So ask yourself how can you possibly prevent police from seeing your speeds if your traveling over the speed limits So that’s what I like about escort max 360 it keeps you more alert of speed traps before getting to that location even tho it can’t block police radar or laser Avoidance is always better then Consequences but being able to prevent the officers from seeing your speeds so easily is even better and that’s what I use front and rear protection on top of having avoidance of police

Thank God. I just bought the R7 without any real research besides looking up recommended detectors, and I'm happy to see that it was a good choice.

@@DruncleBob has that as well definitely worth the bucks
As if they are legal over there😭😭
Im glad the Uniden won, because I literally just got one a month ago lol
Do you have any recommendations for the r8 settings to not get any false positives?

Hi!Buy genevo max-very good device!
What do you mean they don't use K bands anymore? He got hit with one in the video lol
K is still used. But Ka is the main police radar band.
Exactly how an alabama state trooper got me and the messed up part Is mine didn't warn me till after I passed him going the other way

I was driving 90mph in a 60 and state trooper was sitting in the dark when he tried using radar on me coming from behind.
Right, they don't. It's a misconception
Watched entire video great content! Glad your back
Rocky Mountain radar scrambler works excellent 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Ok no my reason why i choose to use a screen all these years is because a scrambler makes your car a ghost and it doesn’t give any warning to police whether your using any such device because a scrambler allows police to see what they’re already used to seeing which is a mirror image reflection
my z11 picks up cops from about 1000 feet away on a straight stretch of road, about 500 on a curve, and in city mode rarely gets false positives. thing’s a lifesaver.
After watching this video, I was super stoked about a $425 R7. All the good radar detectors are $600+. But then I look it up and the cheapest I can find an R7 on the internet is $500. Not such a great value proposition at that price.

They did figure it out, modern detectors detect radar detector detectors. I know how silly that sounds lol

I was always told that by the time the detector alerts the radar gun is already on you. But that first test seemed to disprove that
Yes that’s not accurate. The detector is pickup up the field of radar before the radar detector is linked to a particular vehicle.
Yes but if it's a laser gun and not a radar, it works like you say. Then it's better to jam/scramble a signal. Some detectors do that as well
laser is like that, not radar. laser is what is sounds like, a literal beam of light they hit you with. radar more like a speaker throwing sound waves, if they're just sitting with the radar on or they check someone with a mile or two of you, you'll usually pick it up with a decent detector. detectors without jamming against laser tho is basically just a confimation that you're getting a ticket lol. jammers are also illegal in a lot of states so be careful.

Range don’t mean anything if you cannot block them 🚔 from seeing your speeds
If your driving through Georgia police target speeds from the rears with LiDAR guns.
So ask yourself how can you possibly prevent police from seeing your speeds if your traveling over the speed limits

BUT the huge down side is the mf goes off pretty often not annoyingly often as the whistler (being false triggers) and also never too late like the whistler and dont get me wrong my whistler definitely saved me from a few tickets but there was a couple times where i was ina grey area going 5 to 7 over and thr radar went off right when i was in visible range of this cop shooting radar. maybe i had got lucky w my speed or he left his radar on idk.. but those instances made me upgrade to uniden and like i was saying it goes off often. and its becuase the range is tht good. but sometimes ill be like damn i coulda kept pushing it for a while or itll pick up a cop on a whole couple streets over from where im even at lol. so the down side is basically range performs too good lol.
I paid 450 for my max360 and it was the best investment I made, after getting so my tickets and having to pay lawyer and do the driving course to drop off my record, which I guarantee the radar would have saved me from some of them…. if you are wondering if you should buy or not, buy it, within one month I guarantee you will be saved at least once, best investment ever
