For those who are like me and swill wondering about switching groups etc... on a PC. The default key is "N" to switch to the next group. There is no key at all set for previous group by default. I changed mine so that the "" key select the next or previous group as they are right next to the "M" mode key and they make more sense. You can change them in your control options under the WEAPONS section. I still find the scanners confusing, being new to this and when to use what could be better explained in game. Definitely a steep learning curve, but from the looks of the game, probably well worth it.
Here, you have 7 things that can be used, and only 2 buttons (Primary and Secondary) to use the 7 items. Can you make a video that explains how to do that, and how that works in this game. Please avoid talking about what you (an experienced player) usually does, and address this from the perspective of a new player. Please!
It's really helpful, you forgot to talk about switching cockpit mode though, you know the mode that makes you switch from combat to scanners at least for me, do you know if there is a way to set it up more easily than setup like let's say a weapon on 1 and then put a scanner also on 1 in the same fire group?
Thanks for the info. On 7.30 min you see on the left the Comp Scanner and the Chaff. How do you operate the Chaff on your secondary key? Does it do that automatically or do you have to do something else? Cheers
this is ALL wrong..... . firstly NEVER put Chaffe, heatsinks into this... you key bind them... The way to properly set up fire groups you take into mind what can be bound together example weapons/most scanners.... can be used on same hotkey (1/2) ... what needs to be separate ... weapons can only be used in combat.. so if u have other things that need bound to 1/2 grp them with ur weapons if they can be used in alternate mode..... so why that matters? main example Discovery scanner... I see all the time new players making whole new fire groups because they already have weapons set to 1 or 2 whichever it may be...and they don't realize weapons only fire in combat mode... discovery only works in discovery mode.. so have a mouse 1 for both and the same grp is fine. Normally you want as few firearms as possible... you can have tons of things bound to 1 or 2 long as when they are being used it's not both at the same time.... unless that's your plan.

All these fire group tutorials neglect to mention how to select a fire group in anger, it must be so easy to do that it does not need mentioning at all, but I'm a newbie, and need to be spoonfed, so how do I switch from fire group one (a) to fire group two (b) while in a situation?
Thanks for your comment. It really depends on what version of Elite Dangerous you are playing. I highly recommend using a joystick with programmable buttons on it(see my recommendation in description above) because you can easily access the button in a combat situation. I have my fire group rotate button next to my secondary fire button for easy access. If using keyboard and mouse it's not going to be as easy to access in a hurry. I don't play on Xbox or Playstation so I'm not sure what button combos you would use for them.
I play on xbox and got a hotas. Makes a huge difference but only worth it if ur really into the game. Also u need to relearn how to fly as it's much different that controller
Yeah this is all really confusing as they have basically restricted you to TWO BUTTONS.. and have entirely focused the controls to some kids toy console controller.. Something many people have not used in decades... an no one buys anymore as you can build a kick ass computer for what they want for those things.. Its a child's toy.. I think I have over 30+ some odd buttons on my controller and am restricted to trying to manipulate everything around TWO BUTTON KEYS... Hell if I know how to switch groups.. or even where in the key binds to this are is even at... they are confusing as well.. Hell, I would love to just change my pips to my throttle.. you know to have all those functions involving power and systems on the same HAND... lol Hell, I got like three hat switches just on my throttle.. We have more weapons than just 2... none of this makes any sense.... and all it is doing is dumbing the game down making it harder for anyone over the age of 8 that's not on a console to play it. The company is still stuck in the 90s...
Still didn’t get an answer on the default button I’m guessing not everyone can afford 2 to 300$ on a joystick. I wish they had a tutorial in how to find it in the settings.

man I'm in trouble I been flying around in a 7 million credit ship and I didn't realize I didn't put any shields on it, and I get confused on how do things with 20 combo hotas keys. Oh my god don't get me started on subsystem targeting.

Ugh. I'm super frustrated with this game. Ya figure something out, so you try something new, and BAM everything is off the rails. I just outfitted my craft for mining, did NOT remove the advance docking computer, but I suddenly have no autopilot. I'm guessing it has something to do with fire groups maybe? I don't know. So. Frustrating. Damaged the hull leaving because my controls got all wonky (a random glitch recently that completely changed my controls and I've been slowly fixing as I find new things that are different than before). Now, I'm trying to re-dock and the station isn't showing up in my contacts. Literally dying. Don't know what to do. Rage Quit.

Came back, attempted to save my ship - but I couldn't communicate with the dock I had just left, so I just busted in there with seconds to spare on O2 levels. Lol course I'm trespassing, so alarms are going off, and my ship blows up. And I'm arrested and fined. Lol. Replaced my ship to find the limpets (along with everything else) were overtaxing my power - which I wasn't sure of by reading all the panels initially as I was equipping things. So, I had no FSD, Supercruise, communication, auto pilot, lol. Oh well, another lesson learned. I think I've maxed the power for that ship though, I'll have to double check. Thanks for your videos, btw, they've been really helpful. And glad you're recovering.
@@LayneP7707 it can be very frustrating to play if you do not have anyone to ask questions as you play. Join a discord group and do not be afraid to ask. Also do the tutorials until you have your key bindings down to allow you to dock and leave port. You should also do the combat tutorial until you are comfortable in surviving.
TELL ME ABOUT IT! I just got myself a federal corvette and kitted it out. The weapons were woring, now they aren't and no matter what I try and change in the right panel I can't fathom it out. I'm really struggling to fathom this game out.

how did you get your mining laser to go on utility? im having to choose between two weapons or one weapon and the mining laser

Did you do the tutorial? Tutorial should go over all the basic controls. The in-game pilots manual should also be helpful
bro why does my dss never show up on the fire group tab? its literally just not there. i HAVE a dss on the ship, but i cant bind it anywhere

only 2 minutes in, skipped a minute and this annoys me harder then the groups not set correctly...
3 mins just to make that laser 1...
The fire group is bullshit...you have the mining laser and it doesn't activate..even though you've selected them via 1/2 etc
This is incredibly confusing and doesnt help at all.
