I'm so confused about how 'disturbing' is being defined here because some of these are legitimately dark, disturbing pieces of music. And then some of these are just like "Oh yeah there's Lightning Bolt and Tom Waits, further down than something like The Caretaker"
If I ever meet that Caretaker dude I'm beating his ass... he's literally the most successful pretentious, talentless hack of all time... he literally has gotten away with being nothing more than a plagiarist

First time I heard "Hi, How Are You" I didn't find it sad or disturbing but I immediately after listening through It all, sort of understood it and realized how unrelatable it is. How noone out there could relate to how he was feeling because it was his own subjective thought in life.
I am only getting to revisit his older work recently. I have loved "1990" since watching the Devil and Daniel Johnston documentary. Definitely recommend checking that out.
@@SetsAndTheCD Don't miss out on Retired Boxer, I don't see it talked about as much but it's by far his most dismal production-wise and has some of his most beautiful songs. Including the original version of True Love Will Find You In The End, which I actually like a bit more than the 1990 version. I'd put it in his top 3 albums along with Hi How Are You and 1990.
@@Ethan_Brant Boxer was I think one of the ones where all good copies were lost when Dan freaked and filled a dumpster with art and tapes in the mid-80s and it all got hauled away. The What Of Whom, on the other hand, comes from the 1st gen tape he gave me, which I think remains the only "master" tape of those songs to surface. Keep an eye out for a crowd fund to issue vinyl releases of stuff recorded by Dan and myself ("Not Daniel Johnston") between 1986-2011. Meanwhile you can find some sample tracks ("Disposable Man", "Popped Culture", "Lend Me A Penny", "Hickory Stick") on Soundcloud, and someone made a seriously creepy video for our very disturbing song "What The Devil", which you *might* be able to locate here on RUclips...
Hope to see some Carcass on the next one. Symphonies of Sickness lyrically is probably the most well written disturbing metal album based on fictional storytelling.

Rain Dogs is a great album. Hell, I'm gonna go so far as to say that the entirety of Tom Waits' discography is eerie but amazing at the same time while also having some dark humor sometimes.
Loved both parts of this series, but your entry on Ground Zero is a bit mixed up. Afaik, John Zorn never had anything to do with Revolutionary Pekinese Opera, the band is actually consisted of an ansamble cast of Japanese experimental musicians led by Otomo Yoshihide. The album is based on the samples of the Peking Oper by Heiner Goebbels and the hojok samples you're referring to are featured on the album Consume Red. Anyways, love your content, keep up the good work, it's always lovely to see more obscure music being talked about. Hope your channel gains more traction.

Mark of the Mole is a nightmarish yet awesome album, the prayer song to The Evil Disposer in The Ultimate Disaster is one of the most epic prayers I've heard.
An album I think is very underrated in terms of how mournful and dark it is is Neutral Milk Hotel's "On Avery Island". Most of NMH's most depressing and eerie songs are on here, like " Three Peaches" or "April 8th".
Hushwave is my favorite album to exist. Ever. I found it through Pad Chennington when he did his deep dive into the discography of b e g o t t e n and I immediately fell in love with the romanitcal and depressive tone of this album. All of b e g o t t e n ' s music is pretty damn amazing.
100% glad The downward spiral and Eminem is on the list. The downward spiral may not be as 'spooky' or 'disturbing' as the rest of the list but damn, it really does foretell a downward spiral - many people don't know that the last song (hurt), probably the most famous song from the album due to Johnny cash cover is written and sung like that is due to confirming the protagonist had shot himself and was bleeding out. Some of the lyrics (not hurt) also speak to people who have experienced depression like myself and so I probably am very biased. I like to think of Trent's Hurt as a not looking ahead permanent solution to a temporary situation and Cash's as a man who has overcame these feelings while looking back and deciding he cannot change the past but also embraced what he has achieved. Also even in Tier 1, there are many MANY bands my father listens to, didn't know some of their albums were considered 'disturbing' BRB going to ask him if he's okay 😂
Is slipknots Iowa going to be on the iceberg? I personally don't think it's disturbing per se but other people might due to the title song and is purity on that album too?
yeah, I was so glad to see them here! Francis The Mute has a wild origin story, but the most famous Deloused in the Comatorium's background is equally as disturbing. I highly recommend looking into it, as the story of Julio Venegas is one that was demonstrated beautifully by the Volta.

the musicians of captain beefheart's group was actually very, very apt players... the album might sound improvised at first listen, but it is all deterministically composed and performed impeccably by the musicians. if you don't believe me listen to live versions of the songs from that time, because the live versions of the songs basically sound identical to the studio versions and playing this kind of incredibly complex compositions is something very few musicians would be able to pull off
Roger Waters was also not fond of the final product of "The Wall" film, which is why "The Final Cut" has a man in a military suit holding a film with a knife in his back. As Roger felt the film strayed too far from his screenplay by Alan Parker and the Movie Studio. Though "Two Suns in The Sunset" fits as the ending song of the Waters-Era Floyd.
You didn’t paint the correct picture for Trout Mask Replica. That isn’t Captain Beefheart playing different instruments. It’s his band. Captain wrote the entire aLbum on piano despite not knowing how to play and having no knowledge of music theory. The bands job was to turn that piano music into an album. They worked on it for months and months. Captain was abusive and horrible. The drummer is the main reason they were successful. After months and months of agonizing work and conditions, they recorded the album in a blistering 6 hour session.
