Adding Sata Power Connectors To A Power Supply Without Using Adapters.

- I needed a more powerful power supply for my computer and didn't want to buy a new one. I had a 450w but it didn't have enough sata power connectors so I added 2 more to it..

It's like listening to a Canadian Jack Nicholson tell bedtime stories...
I was thinking the same thing. I thought this amount of Canadian was something exaggerated in spoof movies, but it seems this is the real deal?
He blew his old PSU typing "All work and all play make Jack a dull boy." over and over again. He sounds a lot like Jack Nickelson.
LoL! I kept expecting to hear, "You can't handle the truth!"
Seriously though, thanks for the helpful video.
I've always found that pre tinning or melting solder into the cable [wire] end, means that when I bring together the parts that are to be joined, it then requires less solder and a much short application with solder-iron, which of course means less chance of heat damage to the components.
Being an RC guy i can tell you not only is that tje best way to soulder electronics butbits also the correct way. Minimise exposure and get almost instant bond. Very satisfying seeing it glaze and puddle into 1 mass super quick. The only way to solder direct to brushless motors and ESC units. Flux tin the wires first should be law. Wires dont melt tin does hence the faster better bond melting 2 coatings of tin together. I like your method Sir Thanks for sharing in the comments
Awesome... how can i do same with sata Data cable?? i have only one sata cable space in my Motherboard..i want more...so what i do please help me sir..
You are really innovative!!! And you helped me out !
Hey, I’m left handed too ✋🏻, plus I learned how to put wires together now. The rest I know nothing about lol. Have a good one 😁
Cool I haven't met too many other lefties..:)
eh, I thought you way better in 'The Shining'.
nice idea connecting the stranded wire together.
learnt a new way to wire nice interlace twist. i'm going to try that with a 6 pin PCIE connector though
I have a question... I am new to this so here we go... You said you left off the orange wire, well that's what I'm dealing with now.. the power supply Im using has 5 wires for the sata cable... the sata cables I like yourself took from another power supply has 4 instead of the 5.. Can you tell me how to do this with one less wire? I don't need a fire in my house, lol.. thx
how can 26 people hate jack nicholson?
I'm guessing it is because of the terrible soldering and the horrid hot glue.
Hi,
Very instructive video as I have same situation. One of your comments was about using the connectors that you slid out of the new black connector. Please advise whether the wiring in those connectors was soldered when you removed it. I just ask so if it was, I know to get my solder out when I follow your tutorial. Thanks for sharing your knowledge, regards Pierre
I'm curious why you didn't just open up the inline connector and crimp it in place beneath the SATA connector on the new power supply?
If the orange is not needed then why is it there in the first place?
Anthony It was supposed to be for compatibility; but the hardware never evolved the way it was anticipated. Solid state drives function using only the 5v (red) wire, making both the 12v and 3.3v irrelevant.
wtf.. so what happend to the orange wire? doesn't it need the oreange wire?
How do I convert my leftover 4 pin or an extra sata rail without an adapter (I can wire it up with specs?) to get a molex leftover wire to work from an old power supply to light up my new case that uses molex?..... Is using the data rail the best or the 4 pin cup that I am not using?
ive been twisting and taping all my life and that way is neater but if you arent soldering its way weaker, pulls apart to easy. but im just lazy lol, good vid, i almost ended up doin the same thing
I just watched the video and I didn't hear me say computer component once..even so thanks for watching
Just did something similar with an older PC's power supply, was looking online to see if anyone's done the same - clearly they have! I ended up just cutting off one of the molex connectors and soldering a sata power connector to the cut wires instead... got the power connector from an old dead power supply. PC had sata ports on the motherboard but no power for it and I was upgrading the hard drive in an old (2005) PC, wanted to use sata instead of IDE. BTW, the 3.3v (orange) is generally not needed but newer SSDs make use of them so if you have a newer SSD this trick may not work unless you connect the 3.3v from another source on the PSU.
lol this guy sounds just like Jack Nicholson
Man you did like a pro I 💜 really thank you for learning me to twist wires your way and to add cables
but the problem as I want to add power sata connectors to a power supply contains only power connectors with 4 pins and the sata got 5 pins
which one from the 5 to cancel
Mohamed M. Abd El-Azeem I guess he canceled orange
Luis Torres ,Thanks a lot I'll try and tell you if it works 😊
Thanks man
Luis Torres ,Thanks man you're awesome I canceled 'Orange' and it works 😘
If I have not another power supply which type of wire i've to use. Are particular wire a simple electric wire, diameter.
Thank you
Wonderful! However, I want to know how I can connect a new SFX power supply unit to a ASUS IDE motherboard (2003) for a Sony VAIO PCV-RX850 Desktop Computer! All I can find from the Internet on RUclips is the opposite. I want the instructions so that I can install a new 450W power supply, and connect it to all the components in my desktop-style computer; which includes a new Western Digital 320GB IDE hard disk drive. Thank you.
I admire that. Just found a cheap adaptor on Amazon uk. Equal to $2
lol posted before it ended i wouldnt recommend removing power supplies like that lol
THX BRO
I just add an orange cable (extracred from a bad PSU) 3.3v terminal on power Suply and add it to an Molex to SATA adaptader ;)
Cool video :D
wow you sound like Jack Nicholson...sweet
labseries1 Without much effort he would have the best Jack Nicholson voice, ever.
+nederlanderman Just what I was thinking
Converter?
You sound exactly like Jeffrey Dahmer. :)))
im left handed too.. people say im weird when i do work or something with my left hand which makes us unique
+Jorvaughn Goodwin "Representing only 10 percent of the general human population". 10 % mate, so basically you and 700 million others. So unique...
i know .. we all are in various different ways
closer to 70-100 million
well there a good amount of unique people then
yes, yes you do sound like Jack Nicholson. nice................
Or just buy an concert
good idia :) . I need that
Soul-der
Mine Fucked me up
So I'm going to... uh.... cut this... wire and... connect it there like... (2 hours later) now I'm going to..... like... cut another.... wire and....
I never said I was the most energetic guy...but thanks for watching Rainbow Snow...lol
I like your accent
+880User088 Don't you think he sounds like Jack Nicholson
spend 100 bucks and get a new power supply..
The computer I was using at the time wasn't worth spending 100 bucks on and the power supply was fine just needed a few sata power connectors.. I've upgraded my whole system since this video was made
+percaine The orange wire isn't needed?
I'd rather buy a new PSU
I would to but at the time I couldn't afford a new psu...I just built a new pc and this psu wasn't good enough so i had to upgrade to a 700 watt..I still have my old pc though and this psu is still more than good enough to run it.
your words are true but through this man get creative
Don't waste Ur valuable tym ! Buy molex to sata cable from Amazon 🤣
Sorry, u are taking too much time to explain.
man you wasted my time and i dint understand nothing :(
Looks like a poor PSU, why add sata cables? better spend a buck and get yourself a decent one.
buy a new psu. that cheap junk is obsolete. probably doesn't have enough current on the 12v rail so your computer is starved
