I appreciate the no-fluff, speedy tutorial. The directions for my Loops & Threads snaps said only, "Apply with snap tools." Thanks a lot! After previewing several other videos, this one was the best.
Thanks for the tutorial! Who knew that snaps were such complex systems...four parts?!? Until a recent snap failure shattered my innocent belief in a good and stable world, I never had the occasion to plunge into the art of snappery. I now feel empowered to restore my coat and fashion integrity.
I really enjoyed your humorous approach to snap installation. I already knew how to do it but your video was really enjoyable. Thanks for the chuckles! 😊
It is advisable to place a scrap leather piece (2-4mm thick) underneath the fabric so that you do not blunt the hole puncher and keep it sharp every time.
Bought a lil kit recently to repair a really nice winter coat I was gifted but a few of the snaps got ripped off when I had to crawl through the window of my apartment after locking myself out. $15 investment saving a $300 coat, and your vid assured me it’s easy as pie. Thanks, I’m interested in learning some of this diy stuff to perhaps learn to tailor my own clothes and make repairs. Subbed 🤘
Ouh you actually put the cat part in the video. Appreciate it coz I really want to see the cat when you said you woke it up (eventhough if that was from other cat video clip ). 😍
Thank you for your video. I found it by looking for videos on snaps. I would like to do plastic and metal snaps on different fabric. I know the plastic Kam snaps have a pliar kit. Do you know of any kits or items to order that would work on metal and plastic or will I need 2 separate type of kits?
Thank you! It is a vintage Calvin Klein shirt, bought it second hand many years ago. If you live in Europe you can find many of my unique selection of thrifted clothes on Vinted (like Deepop but better) you can find me at @ltrltrend.
Thanks for the instructions! Can you tell me where you purchased your snaps? Reviews on Amazon are so up and down on all of them, I can't figure out which set will actually work. Also, do you know if this kind of snap would be okay on regular fabric (cotton) instead of something bulkier like the denim? THANK YOU!!!
Can we see a closeup of the snap after hitting it with the hammer? Mine look terrible! Also, my button is getting damaged by the hammering. Am I using the right device on the snap when hammering? My round metal circle has a front and a back. Which should I use? I'm ending up with a damaged snap and a ruined project.
tq for the tutorial.. i have snap set same type with the one in this video.. but there's some moves didn't clarify clearly in this video.. so im wasting 2 set of snapping button.. i figure out themselves.. luckily i finished assemble them. thanks!
I have tried with other "tools" like big nails, rocks and other hand tools *but* they never came out nicely like the slicing tool. Everything else just smashes the post either not enough or too much that the snap doesn't work properly or the snap comes off after a few tries. Highly recommend the appropriate tool. Best of luck!
Hi @ltrltrendfashnguru Wondering if you can help me understand what I am doing wrong. I have wasted 3 sets of snaps because I am bending the male piece (3rd to install) and then the top snap doesn't fit it. I have a picture, but it doesn't look like I can attach it.
I would have bought you a coffee if you had provided links to all items in video. The coffee would have been well worth the time I now have to take to source the items myself.
You are so right! Sorry to have missed this information -- I did a later video about Eyelets and Grommets that included my supplier (because this one is older video I did not include it= Anyways, I have updated the info in the description of the video and linked it in the comments above .... and here : Where I buy my equipment (NOT sponsored and not affiliated - I just love them, they are a small family business in Toronto, Canada - ships worldwide) -- sewingsupplydepot.com/
Idk Andre you took the time to make this comment rather than just cracking on with the arduous task of taking 5 seconds to google "snap button kit". A single coffee? doesn't sound like your time is worth much lmao. The petty entitlement needed to make this complaint in particular under a great free tutorial is mindblowing...
The wood was used if you did not have a cutting mat, so you don't damage the surface you are hammering on. But you are correct I did not demonstrate this in the video because I was using my cutting mat.
Hey. Thanks so much. I have tried and tried to get this small thing to work. I can figure out just about anything, but for some reason, just couldn’t get it to work…lol.
Arrgh, this is so frustrating when this happens. Try hammering down a bit harder (even though it seems like you are going to break them... try again). Also, make sure you tools are set correctly. Thanks for watching... and Best of luck🥰
I'm not sure loosening the strength on these are an option. 😅Maybe a sew-on snap would have been a better for the elderly man as the strength is not super strong like the industrial snaps.
When I try to install these four part snaps I run into the problem of the “tube part” of the components rolling when the setting cone presses into them. I’m not sure why this is happening or how to avoid it. Any tips?
This has happened to me as well. There are a few possibilities/ troubleshooting: 1. Try to not hammer the post down too far. 2. Are you using the correct tool size? Did the tools (anvil and setter) come in a "kit" or did you buy the tools separately? If you bought the tools separately, they maybe the wrong size for the post. 3. The snaps may be of cheap quality....🧐 Best of luck
Once you have done one successfully... you will fall in love with them! Snaps are now my most favourite part - they are so satisfying to install since they are much faster than buttons and those darn button-holes. haha
I got a Ben Davis snap front jacket and I've always wanted to replace those funny looking buttons with the monkey face to the shiny gold or silver style buttons to make it look more elegant and less of that gang related style. That's why I removed the monkey brand off. Plus I'll have it custom made.
Oh yah, pearl snaps are different... did you buy a kit? usually the kits come with a tool (it's a small piece of plastic that looks like a stapler...hahah), which makes it simple to install.
That looks painless. I bought three different snap kits and the instructions looked more complicated than this video. So I now need to find those snaps I bought and the hole puncher to complete a project waiting on my ironing board. No more procrastinating.
Haha. You are probably doing nothing wrong dear Kirsten. There are different types of snaps out there, if you bought a kit they usually come with a special tool? Maybe you can send me a photo so I can better understand what your snaps looks like and hopefully I can help you get these snaps installed! Do you have instagram or telegram? OR you can send me an email at ltrltrend@protonmail.com
It went really fast. I didn't get a really good look at the snaps. I have a bunch of snap pieces in a container. And I can't tell which end is up. They also don't look anything like your snaps... In fact, none of the videos show snaps like what I have. Or maybe I'm not getting a goid look at them on any videos. None of the pieces make any sense. I'm so, so lost!...which is why I gave up and didn't try 20 years ago when I bought these. But I feel left out. I want to conquer the snap!!!
hello great video as always 👍🧵please kindly explain and film how to use monofilament thread in the sewing machine please ok?please kindly reply back ok?thank you
I hate those hole punchers they are hard, and they don't always punch I found a better tool that works every time and no force needed, the japanese screw punch, fast and easy you don't need to be superwoman to punch a hole

This was a very Snappy video! Thanks for the illustration, it was done in a SNAP!
Thanks for the tutorial! Who knew that snaps were such complex systems...four parts?!? Until a recent snap failure shattered my innocent belief in a good and stable world, I never had the occasion to plunge into the art of snappery. I now feel empowered to restore my coat and fashion integrity.

Indeed!
I bought a kit a couple of years ago. Never made one snap successfully! You have redeemed my confidence with this clear and simple tutorial. 🥰🥰🥰
Wonderful!! So happy to redeem your confidence - thanks for watching 🥰🌞
@LTRLTrendFashnGuru Cool chain around your neck did you make it yourself?
I was always intimidated by snap installation, thanks for making this so easy and quick - wow!
Thank you for getting right to the point! It's so much faster than sewing buttons and button holes!!
I don't ever remember making button holes in Fashion school, snaps were always my go-to solution.
Don't use a metal hammer - use a heavy nylon hammer. It does not damage the other tools when you hit them and it gives off less noise.
Thanks for the tip, I will try this (note to self: buy nylon hammer).
Thank you! That was so helpful and clear.
I really enjoyed your humorous approach to snap installation. I already knew how to do it but your video was really enjoyable. Thanks for the chuckles! 😊

You’ve convinced me to buy a mallet. I live in an apartment and the amount of hammering I’d need to do is too much 😂

Good question! From my experience, the plastic vs. metal snaps use different tools. Suggest buying separate kits.
I love your shirt! ❤
Thank you!
Loved your video. Very entertaining and informative. Thank you.

Thank you! It is a vintage Calvin Klein shirt, bought it second hand many years ago. If you live in Europe you can find many of my unique selection of thrifted clothes on Vinted (like Deepop but better) you can find me at @ltrltrend.

You are so right.. this was such a quick video that my videographer and I forgot to film this B-roll. Apologies 😔
Good video: Next time you can show a close up as to what you are banging in -- the cap and receiver, etc. This would be useful.
Haha.. hard to get the camera on there when I am banging. But yes, I understand - more close-ups of the pieces. Thanks for your comment.
supppperrr helpful tysm!! i also think it would be helpful to show close ups of what they look like after you smashed them

hell o great video cna you tell me how to measure for replacing snaps on denim
Hello, do you think snap buttons like these would work to secure a jacket liner to the inside of a jacket
Yes, of course! I usually see these kind of snaps used in lining Barbour jackets and military jackets.
Is there an alternative to using the splicing tool?
I have tried with other "tools" like big nails, rocks and other hand tools *but* they never came out nicely like the slicing tool. Everything else just smashes the post either not enough or too much that the snap doesn't work properly or the snap comes off after a few tries. Highly recommend the appropriate tool. Best of luck!
