    I bought these 5 years ago and have never used them! I already had Kam snaps and pliers what worked fine but wanted these to use my non-standard snaps, jeans buttons, rivets etc. Once I discovered that I'd need to buy more Prym products in order to get the setting tools, I put the Love pliers at the bottom of a drawer in my sewing room where they stayed. I felt I'd made a poor choice.
    So now after watching your video I can at least make holes and insert plastic snaps (easier with the Love Vario than my old pliers). And I will look into buying the rivet and eyelet tools which I'm hoping might work with the hundreds I already have? Thanks for posting this😊

I did ask Prym for better advice, but didn't get any feedback other than to watch the videos. It is difficult to see the parts and which piece goes with which attachment. I understand everything else but it would be helpful to see before squeezing it together to show the part and the piece together before attaching. Thank you again, I'm sure I will get there with a bit of trial and error.

    Thanks so much for this. I’ve had a set of these pliers for about two years - bought a set of pliers and some fasteners via Etsy - but hardly used because I have struggled with them. It is also very difficult to access any of the prym fasteners here in New Zealand so I might be putting in an order soon to you as I see you ship worldwide :) one question, I have found it very difficult to remove the different tool sets from the pliers where they fit into the pliers, I know there is the plastic gadget to help get them out but it has all seemed very stiff and difficult, did you find that got easier with use, or have you done anything else to help with getting them off the ends off the pliers, I’ve even wondered if I should oil the ends to make it easier, thanks for any suggestions about this. Robyn

    • @lunasmum6869
      @lunasmum6869 3 года назад +2

      The little tool, after I found out what it was (!) can be hard to use at first as the tools do fit very tightly. I have found they don't get looser with use. Indeed they have to fit snugly, you wouldn't want them falling out just as you were about to squeeze!! On the site where I bought some eyelets the owner says she finds pushing the tools out with the 'u' shaped metal thing used to keep the pliers closed for storage better for her. Don't oil them, you may damage your fabric. It would be awful to spend time and money on making a garment only to have oil stains on it. I do find, however, the plastic 'pusher outer' does get easier to use the more you use it.

    I watched this because the instructions on the pack are useless! I've used the plastic snaps by trial and error my reason for watching was to find how large a hole needed for 5mm eyelets. I'm still not sure! I have put eyelets on the back of a corset and, though I have the hole cutter for the snaps and they aren't big enough for the eyelets 'top hat' part to go through very tough fabric even with lots of 'encouragement', I ended up using my scissors as you have suggested plus some Fray Check. Not an easy task with 2 layers of coutil and 2 of satin. I managed in the end with trial and error on scrap fabric but on the actual garment it took me all day to insert 22 eyelets! This video, though it didn't fully answer my query, is excellent for all the different types of fasteners. The only thing I would have liked to see was a more close up of the tools and the parts for each fastener when you layed them out on the table. I'm going to order one of those hole punches you used. Thanks so much for this useful video.

    Hi Lauren, many thanks for the comprehensive video on snaps which is very timely as I was trying to add some jersey snaps to a little romper suit that I'm making for a new baby. Although it's a light, woven fabric I bought the jersey snaps. I've put a piece of tape on to reinforce the fabric where the snaps are to go. I was too mean to buy the pliers so just used the tool with a hammer (which is what I always remember doing, although it's probably 25 years since I last used them!!) Much gnashing of teeth later, I gave up! The spikes kept either coming through the fabric outside the popper or they wouldn't grip at all and the tool broke! What is difficult to see in the video is which way up the 'female' piece of the snap goes (and I can't see on the Prym instructions, either). Is there anyway of either describing or inserting a photograph, please? Sorry if I'm being really thick!! Thanks!

    • @LaurenGuthrieGhani
      @LaurenGuthrieGhani  3 года назад +1

      Hi Vera,
      I'll add another picture to my blog post that shows that a bit clearer. It sounds like you might not have had it the right way round, or everything wasn't lined up when you hit the hammer. It's harder to keep things lined up and engaged with the hammer, that's why i prefer the pliers as you can slowly control things as they come together and make sure the two sides of the snap are 'engaged' before applying the force.

      @@alicemcquillan9764 Hi Alice, I hope I'm interpreting your question correctly here, yes prym poppers/snaps that come with a a tool set and a purple clip section (that you use with a hammer if you don't have the pliers) will all be compatible with the Prym vario pliers

      Hi Diane, I just wanted to check what one you means. Is it the jeans buttons, or rivits? As far as I am aware the tools for each of these items only comes with the buttons/rivits themselves :)

    What type would use on vinyl fabric please?

    • @LaurenGuthrieGhani

      What are you making/in what context would the fastening be used with the vinyl fabric? That would probably affect my suggestion more than fabric type alone

    I wish this video had time stamps. Because its alot of different topics. And it took her around 12 minutes to get to the actual process of installing the snaps.

      Hello, I have only recently found out how to add time stamps to my videos and have been starting to work my way though my back catalogue of videos.
      I've just completed it for this video now, so I hope that helps should you wish to come back to the video for reference in the future :)
