This happened to my niece a few years back. She took the Greyhound from California headed to Canada. There was a bathroom break at a rest stop in the Nevada dessert. When she came out of the bathroom, the bus was gone. She was early 20s at the time and looks like a young teen. She was more than ah our away from any town/city. She had to hitch hike back and thankfully was helped by an honest and kind man. She refuses to travel with them again.

10 minutes is NOT enough time. When I traveled Greyhound, we were given about 30 minutes to use the restroom and get food. The driver then did a head count before leaving.

You had a good driver. Mine gave us "strictly 5 minutes to be back on the bus", and left literally after only 3 minutes, laughing and commenting to us about how he's nobody's babysitter and that the people he left behind should have just stayed on the bus if they saw more than 4 people get off to use the bathroom.

Greyhound is the worst. I had to use Greyhound after 9/11 from Florida to California for my dad's funeral. Flights were still grounded, and I missed the last train. I found that many of the employees and all of the drivers I dealt with were rude and hateful people. We were almost left somewhere in Arizona, and my 4 yr old son and I couldn't even sit together. Terrifying and terrible experience. Never again! I took the train back home. Much better service and experience.

A police chase started from the
Shell station at the Bottom of Scrams Hill .. Galesburg MI about 2 years ago. The Sheriffs were chasing a guy that ran from them the day previous and they did not peruse. As they chased him pulling a boat with a pickup he reached out and fired. His bullet went through the Police car windshield and killed the Cops .. Other Cops chased him about 5 more miles.. He missed an intersection and got stuck in a muddy field. There was a shoot out and he got ended.

This company has been going downhill for about 15 years. It is who they hire that is the issue, they are allowed to treat customers badly but keep getting paid. Full house cleaning needed top to bottom. A relative got stranded at the New Orleans station for several hours because his bus left 30 min earlier than scheduled and he had to wait overnight for the next one, he said no one cared or tried to help at all. This was back in 2012. I posted this on other social media and urge others to do so too. It could be our relatives/friends this happens to.

Although it was quite a while (1984), something similar happened to me in New Orleans. A connecting bus I was on from Lafayette to New Orleans left Lafayette 3 hours late, and I missed my connection in New Orleans. I had to wait 24 hours for the next bus headed to Louisville, KY, and they did nothing for me -- no alternative travel offer, not even a hotel. So I was stuck in the New Orleans bus terminal for 24 hours as a 19yo with a lot of luggage. It really sucked. 40 years later, I haven't travelled Greyhound again.

With the low prices of air travel, the usual interstate traveler is someone too poor to afford a plane ticket or too loathsome to get on a plane. I took a greyhound from Chicago to Seattle. The entire back half of the bus was filled with guys who had just gotten out of prison in Illinois and were heading to Seattle to find work on the fish processing boats. Some were shooting up on board the bus. I had my wallet stolen in Chicago and no longer had the documents I needed to get on a plane. One of the guys explained to me that on board the fish processing boat, the life was as orderly as prison, with no regular access to drugs. It was the only way those guys could stay clean.

Also the bus driver kept threatening to kick people off the bus in the middle of nowhere because they were talking. She pulled over the bus multiple times in a unsafe fashion and walked up and down the aisle reprimanding all the passengers like they were children and threatening to kick everybody off the bus, and if they have a problem with her they can get off. We were all scared to get left in the middle of nowhere that everyone basically stayed quiet. That was the worse experience I've ever had and would never recommend taking a Greyhound bus ever again. Greyhound is NOTHING like it used to be. They are now owned by German company who are operating it like they do in Europe where they pick you up from street corners and gas stations. If the city has built a bus facility they can use then fine, they might use it, but the days of Greyhound bus stations all over the country staffed with employees that can handle situations when they happen are OVER!! So buyer beware. If you see the green FLIX buses going down the road, that's the company that now owns Greyhound.
And on the gas station in Jackson, Tennessee, that's the normal stop. The previous Greyhound station that had been in continuous operation since 1935 was shut down a few years ago and the gas station is now your new bus stop. This ain't your grandpa's Greyhound but not going to get much better anytime soon I'm afraid.

Bus transportation is not like a jet going from airport to airport. There are few real bus stations, most stops are just that, a stop somewhere. A gas station, a stop sign, etc. it's not like everywhere you want to go has a bus station to stop at. That's what you get with a bus ticket, dropped off as close to your destination or transfer as possible, jets don't do that.

Takes just as long when I drive my car. On one late night ride there were many transients, as I was told by driver, they ride up from Sacramento to sleep at night. I once took the greyhound across three states and while I was on the bus, the driver pulled over to a gas station to use the bathroom. He made an announcement that if anybody gets off the bus and if they’re not back on by the time he gets back on, he’s leaving them behind, a young underage teenager who looked to be about 16 was riding the Bus . He left all his duffel bags on the seat and got off the bus with the driver to go use the bathroom as well. The driver came back and got on the bus and started it and the people in the back were yelling for him to wait. There was a kid in the bathroom. The driver closed the door and said I told you if you’re not on the bus by the time I get back I’m leaving you behind and as he started to pull away, the young kid came running out of the gas station, and made it to the doors, the bus driver didn’t even acknowledge him and just continue driving and left the kids standing there with all his property still on the bus. People in the back of the bus started yelling at the driver and calling him names and the driver made an announcement that he wants his bus quiet and if nobody likes it and they continue talking or he hears a peep out of anybody he’s kicking them off the bus as well, everyone stay quiet until we got to our destination where we switched buses. That’s when people were calling him names as they were getting off the bus. I also flipped him off and called him some names and said I was going to report him and he laughed and said it wouldn’t be the first time, and make sure I spelled his name, right. Worst experience I ever had riding a greyhound bus for the first time I’ll never do it again

He was going to leave us all there, but someone called the police.... @@BoratWanksta Yeah dude, it's unfortunately a huge part of the company culture. In order to extract maximum profits and still offer cheap fares, many drivers are overworked or simply not qualified. The company has very little customer service as well. It's nearly impossible to get any kind of compensation or even sympathy from them. Many people taking Greyhound are already very desperate and have no other option available to them. While the driver was completely rude, disrespectful, & unprofessional, I can't even hold him 100% accountable. They really run their drivers ragged. Just look up accidents that happen with Greyhound. For the drivers, they are desperate to keep their jobs. The pay is probably bottom tier considering the amount of crap they have to put up with. It's sad too, because I really enjoy traveling by bus. Much more than I enjoy flying. Sure it takes longer, but the experience of the open road is nice. But I fear the company execs really need to take a second look at how they are running their business or else they won't be around for another 10 years.

The driver could have hit the person running for bus, I hope no one gets hurt. A refund was not completed the driver left them stranded they should all get an attorney and sue for more then their tickets. This is very scary situation that hasn’t cost Greyhound yet but will eventually because this is pure negligence on Greyhound part. A person hired Greyhound for a job to get them to point A to point B and Greyhound is just leaving people in between point A and B, they didn’t fulfill their contracted part. Sue their butts off and ask for damages plus your ticket.

Here is my experience going from Portland Oregon to Olympia Washington about 110 miles: Trip from Hell to put it mildly, but at least I did not get stabbed like one customer going east on 84! This has to be the worst form of transportation I have ever seen!
First, we left almost 30 minutes late. When we got on some passengers refused to let others sit by them. One guy actually ended up sitting in the aisle! Of course we pulled out with the passenger sitting on the floor and the driver oblivious!
Finally as we got going someone said I could sit down as I was in the rear of the bus standing. Again the driver saw this and did nothing. After about 5 minutes there was a verbal argument with lot's of "F" bombs being used which I am sure the driver could here but did nothing (she did a lot of nothing by the way.)
We were on the road from Portland to Olympia, when we stopped for a "break" in Centralia. No announcement of how long, just a break. We left the parking lot 3 short of those riding. She did not do a head count, it was only after a few us yelled at her to stop, that the riders got on. Horrible driver.
There were at least two strung out on drug riders who should not even been allowed on the bus. As I exited in Olympia I actually had to step over the guy! Of course our less than observant bus driver did nothing.
Worst experience from start to finish. I will never ride again or recommend. Contacted customer service and got the usual response- they really don't care.
Plain and simple don't use Greyhound.

This happens to us in August we took the Greyhound from Buffalo New York to Chicago and it was a nightmare they just randomly leave people she had her baby and he was just about to pull out when the lady came out with her baby and he wouldn't open the door he said it's too late I'm already pulling out and there was another time at a layover did Cleveland Ohio where a bus driver comes and was cursing real loud the man was the bus was dirty I was traveling with kids my grandson who was three in my three kids one was 30 in my younger girls was 12 and 13th it was important that they sat together paid extra for assigned seating would make the people move unlike my kids need to sit together not to mention the conditions of some of these bus stations it's just disgusting
