I'm impressed at the detail (sharp edge). Also, i thought some kind of coating on the foam would be necessary to prevent the sand from collapsing as the foam melts, but that is not the case.
lol, blessing and a curse. The large furnace has issue melting brass & Bronze due to the size. just wait I have a 24"x24" I'm doing in a couple weeks. That will be cool
wow!!! great vid , thanx 4 posting/ sharing this !! its cool the kid is interested / helping. we all nd. 2 share knowledge , u can never b 2 smart or have enuff money !! ( say no 2 ... convenience stores... go to supermarket , farmers mkt. , or , best ... grow ur own !!)..thanks !! saw great bumper sticker, read.... kill your tv... how true..
That is a really good question. I can't answer it from personal experience. However I have heard of guys not having successes with it. Perhaps I will try it next week and get back to you
It`s amazing!!! I didn't know before that you could cast metal directly into the sand. How did you come up with the idea of using a construction vibrator?
Ok, great question. so here is another rabbit hole for you to go down on RUclips . Check out kelly cofields channel. This is one of the first guys that I learned from and have been profecting it on signs . He makes car parts but uses a different coating. Originally he started with plaster like a lot of us have .
Engine hoist would solve all of your problems ,you can lift crucible with it(add a steel cable so you can pour in steady) and that heavy sand barrel .And since you wont be lifting heavy stuff cheap import one will do just fine.
That's a thought. I would need paved surface however. Unless I cut it and put a piviting hard on it and burryed it in the ground to anchor it. Hummm got me thinking not :)
I have seen another guy do some very tight tolerance stuff with this process and I can not understand why anyone would do a different process like PLA etc.
I can see how you would say that . Kelly cofield makes some amazing stuff. The two are very similar with a few strengths for each but sharing many . i have not tryed lost pla but done lost. wax, pla seems like it has the ability to be printed and will hold its form way better . I have found that lost foam will distort and has spacific direction it has to be placed in . What i love about it is that you can make it with very basic tools and turn it into a metal part quickly.
Totally, it's a pretty cool process. I have done a couple of pours that would have been good to have extra hands. I usually am pouring during the week because of my shift work though and all my buddy's are at work. Check out the massive casting video. Now there where a guy could have used extra hands :)
@@Wrighmachining I did this kind of Hobby job with friends. It doubles the joy while seeping little bear and chatting while oven is melting the charge.
Impressed with your skill set. I got motivated thanks.
Let me know if you have any questions :)
That sign came out amazing!
Thank you

I was blown away when I first saw it as well. Pretty cool 😎
Looks good. With my capacity I'd have to cast one number at a time.

beauty, well done Sir!
Thanks Steve !

Good Job! Looks great!
Thank you Joel
Great job
Thank you Matt
Would it work with expanding fome so you could fill up a mold with expanding fome and then cast it

You will probably get a better finish if you use a finer mesh on the sand
Thanks for your input Michael. The plaster give an amazing finish however the poor surface finish you see may be coming from the foam not finished

I thought about using a DA sander, air powered
For the vibrating process. Hummm that's is a good thought. I bet it would work for small pails. Like 10L and under
Looks great! Can you make one double sided?
The sky is the limit. Both sided no big deal
@@Wrighmachining Good to know. You taking orders? 🙂
@@hilltopmachineworks2131 not usually but may make an exception for you :) send me an email, let's talk
@@Wrighmachining 👍
Apakah bisa menggunakan PU foam spray yg di jual di pasaran?
I have not heard of that working well. I think spray foam is a different type of foam.
@@Wrighmachining iya Busa nya agak sedikit lebih keras dan di dalam nya berpori pori besar
Muito bom
Thank you
Can you put a link to kellys videos? I cant find anything.
Oh yes sorry about that, I just put a link to his channel in the notes. Some really cool casting he does .
Would u be able to cast something for me?
What did yoi have in mind ?
Have some friend to help. That would be fun.
