Thanks! Yeah, I know super glue works. I just don't like using it. I don't have low melting glue for it. I was afraid it would melt the foam. As soon as the glue melted I applied it.
Who else was thinking about the movie “Terminator“ when Mark puts the piece of aluminium extrusion into the crucible with the molten alloy and the scene in the movie when the Terminator is being lowered into the pool of molten metal and gives the thumbs up👍
The more I watch these lost casting vids the more I am amazed at just how simple this process is. Since you have a cnc can you try to make a simple part to hold a specific measurement?
It is quite amazing! I have a bunch of these videos. I pretty much only do lost foam casting anymore. Yes you could. I however am not familiar with 3d carving like i've seen people make intake manifolds using lost foam. Like any other casting process you need to consider shrinkage. The part made out of foam would need to be larger. I believe people make the part 1.5% bigger.
In your opinion, how did plaster thickness effect the outcome? I wrestling with large rings. If I try vibrating the sand to get good contact, the pattern wants to float and deforms to an oval. If I don't vibrate, I get blowouts in the undercuts where sand doesn't compact well. That makes it a real clean up chore.
With aluminum plaster thickness doesn't seem to matter too much. What metal are you using? I can see deforming a ring for sure. If you are doing a heavy metal check out my most recent video.

Thanks! OMG, that would weigh a ton! lol. I think it would turn out just as good. However it would require a different coating. Because copper is heavy it will push out of the drywall mud coating. I made a video explaining what I did to cast a Brass piece. ruclips.net/video/UgvLPQg24Yo/видео.html
I usually only use 3 bits. I use 1/8 for a carve that has larger open areas. 1/16, and a 30° detail bit. I don't really have a single to go to bit. Multiple bits are usually required. 👍
Looks great, came out fantastic and you certainly have bragging rights there! Now, not knocking you in any way HOWEVER simple castings of plaques, busts, etc are so common they are almost boring at this point (key word there, "almost" since you video was NOT boring!). Do you have any plans for something a bit more complex in the future? I have been searching for diy videos of castings for such useful things as external engine parts (brackets, etc) and other items a bit more useful than something to hang on the wall or sit on a shelf. I am intending to do this in the near future that's why the search for more complex items and pitfalls that may come with doing that, still your video was very interesting since your castings came out so nice with extremely good detail, thanks very much for sharing this! Also any plans for casting brass/bronze in the future?
Thanks you! I plan on making point covers for some motor cycles. I have to figure out how much the shrinky %. I have made something complex actually... I made a witch king flail. It involves actually making a usable aluminum chain with a spiked end. I have a playlist on the entire project if you are interested. I have made a few things in brass and copper. Recently I made a brass spear head and a copper goonies skeleton key. Again not useful, but super cool. 😎. No plans on brass, my projects just come to me. If I see something that inspired me, I make it.
Nice, those will look great hanging up with the background painted and the borders and raised text/details shined up.

I'm not sure, but probably. Give it a dry, but make sure it is dry before casting. Also, it only has a to be a really thin coat.

@@HeinrichsMade I am using aluminum. The castings are usable; just a lot more remedial metal work afterwards than I had hoped.
@@markwhitaker7887 interesting 🤔. I usually don't have any blow out using aluminum. Try adding a little bit thicker coating.
