This is not Logan's shining moment but I have to say that I was glad that he did not let her place her choices and the consequences from the choices onto his shoulders because it's never Rory Gilmore that is at fault. If she sleeps with a married man for her first time and her defense is that he was her boyfriend first or she quits Yale and joins the DAR and lives with her grandparents... all the fingers should be pointing at Rory if you're assigning blame.

Agreed! It seems like at the end of season 4 (heck even before that because whenever Lorelai asserts her motherly authority Rory fights her on it) when she slept with Dean Rory’s character just went downhill from there. As with relationships, Rory just seems afraid of commitment, Dean tells her he loves her and she runs away from him, Logan wants to marry her and they can build their own lives and careers together and she rejects it. I like Rory at first but she starts to become very dislikable as the seasons go on. And then in year in a life, again she has a boyfriend but is cheating on him with Logan who’s engaged and she can’t bring herself to give Logan a reason not to go through with it and finally be with him, even the fact that she’s carrying his baby.

    • @Kashish4Eijaz
      @Kashish4Eijaz 6 лет назад +140

CritticalAngel exactly! it's just a way to show how Jess in one conversation made her think what she's doing with her life which overall makes jess the hero. but personally to me it was stupid writing as even lorelai who is rory's biggest inspiration could not convince her to go back to school. and we are expected to believe Rory was influenced by Jess? Rory was flawed like any other normal person and she was at one point going to realise her mistake but for them to show it as though Jess is the reason she's returned to school is stupid. the writers are just making way for Jess and Rory to be the end deal as it's a carbon copy of lorelai and Luke. hence how he gives her direction in the revival too. but that's the point why does Rory always need someone else to tell her what she can do with her life. is she that naive that she ALWAYS needs guidance?
Logan in one episode did say she would return to school after a month as she loves school too. it's not his fault she didn't and it's not his choice either. Rory is old enough to make her own decisions and stand by them. but she's always looking to blame others for things going wrong. like grow up girl!

I'm not here to bash Logan but it's tiring seeing comments that make him out to be the only good person in this scenario which wouldn't have happened if he just kept his cool and didn't allow insecurity to get the better of him. Laura Dávila Nah, just because she didn‘t pay for it, does not mean she didn‘t work hard. Harvard, Princeton and Yale have accepted her because she was a hell of a good student and those are Ivy League Colleges. And her Grandparents had nothing to do with all these colleges accepting her. In the end of season 3 when it turned out that Lorelei can‘t pay for Yale, she was the one who said that she wants to apply for students loan even though she knew she have to pay it back. She also wanted to pay Richard all the money back after Yale before Christopher paid for Yale. Logan on the other side could have been the worst student and still would be accepted to Yale. Without any effort he had a bright future because his of his dad. His family did open a lot of doors for him. Even in Season 7 Rory applied for many jobs but didn‘t got accepted. Logan probably just had to ask his dad.

It's not easy not to have money or connections (like Jess, people are commenting) but emmotionally it's hard to feel the pressure of a family that Logan does. In real life it's even more difficult than this. Emotionally many people suffer and do mistakes and childish stuff as Logan's character did. It's well portraited. Life is always a little bit easier when you have money and connections and can get whatever you want just because of your last name. I mean, when your options are taking over the family business (Which means having a well paying job automatically handed to you and the only downside being that you don't love job) or giving up the all the privileges he's had his whole life, that, in and of itself, is a privilege. OK let’s get this straight Rory was not blaming Logan for her failures. She was upset that her bf was so rude to Jess and that he was mocking him especially about his work as a writer. Rory knows that despite Jess’s flaws and mistakes he was still able to publish a book. This a major accomplishment for him and it’s a sign that he’s growing up and not taking his potential for granted anymore. Which is a contrast to the life Rory was living at the moment. She was a student at Yale with a rich grandparents and numerous connections to become a journalist yet she’s still insecure enough to drop out of school and go and live with her grandparents. She felt like Logan was insulting Jess and not taking him seriously when he knows nothing about him. I get that Logan was probably jealous and upset by the fact that his girlfriend was trying to go out with her ex while he was out of town, but that still wasn’t an excuse to be rude. I think Logan just got defensive because while Rory was saying that she was living a privileged and pointless life (compared to the life Jess was living) he thought she was saying that he was the source of that toxic lifestyle she created. When he got defensive Rory couldn’t deny that all they do is party and waste time together. I know that all of Rory’s choices are all on her, but Logan’s reaction and how he treated Jess was really childish.

Yes Jess leaving was bad he should have told her, but he was going through a lot of crap, and she didn't even try to be understanding about it. I think he sabotaged his relationship with her because he wasn't used to having good things in his life, and pushed her away, but he always loved her. I agree she doesn't need to be with anyone until she learns self awareness, she has no sense of morality, she feels guilty about the way she treated Dean only after they break up, then she gets with him when he's married, just for them not to work out AGAIN, she gets with Logan when he's marrying someone else AGAIN, and cheats on her boyfriend she keeps forgetting about!! Logan's got many faults and was a jerk to Jess here but I can also completely understand why! Anyone would have!
Rory met an ex-boyfriend behind his back while he was out of town and didn't tell Jess she had a boyfriend either so in his understanding they were going on a date since they didn't leave things on friendly terms but very much romantic ones. Also, she doesn't introduce Jess as an ex or tells Logan in the car since he obviously had to ask for it again at the pub.
It's absolutely not alright to go on a date with exes, especially when those exes think you're single when you're not and you don't tell you're partner about them. Rory was shady and Jess thought it was a date.
Loga was upset about Omaha and his father's force-fed life and would have really needed Rory as an ally that night.
He told Rory he thought she should go back to Yale the whole time ("I give you one month", "not you, you love school, I've seen it") - it was due to her own timing that she didn't go earlier. - for starters she had so many hours of community service to complete in 6 months that she couldn't have possibly completed that part-time with Yale, also I kinda think she actually needed some time to grow from the throwback she received and the criticism (fair enough I think she could have learned much more from the very real criticism she got from mitchum).
I personally think Jess was just the last kick Rory needed (while it's actually Logan who is the last to tell her he thought she should have gone back btw - he just left her to make her own choice and Rory has been routinely terrible in making hard choices...)
And just for the record - just before she met Logan (which wasn't that long before) Jess came to Yale and wanted her to quit Yale to run of to NY with him (which would have been TERRIBLE) because he had just figured out he loved her - he was incredibly selfish, immature and also jealous as soon as he sees Dean. He was a jerk to Dean much more than Logan was to him and he can't take his own medicine.
So I'm sorry, while I like Jess and think he's matured and has done good for Rory since - he's not right for her anymore! She didn't wanna do anything with him because she loved Logan - that should tell you all about her preference that you need to know. He grew up into more of a brotherly role which is something she needs and which he fits into better later anyways.
And tbh, his idea with the book (not book writing in general, since I think Rory is much better suited for that) about her and her mom didn't turn out right I think - I always fel it was an easy way out and put a strain on her and Lorelei's relationship for a reason (I didn't like that Lorelei let herself be pressured into allowing it in the end in fear for their relationship).
So...sry rant over..but I think if anyone is acting badly in this situation it's Rory. And Jess ain't any better than Logan in this

Dean dated Rory and broke up, but when he married Lindsey he was no where near ready for it because he was not over Rory, which resulted in him having an infedelity with Rory. Even still they broke up not long after. Logan was a playboy and even though when he and Rory dated, he became a slightly better person. However he was still reckless and too much of a party boy to be responsible. Even in Gilmore girls a year in a life, he was cheating on his fiancé with Rory.Jess was the only one, that after he and Rory broke up made something of himself. Jess became a writer and publisher. He became more mature as time went on. So in summary Jess was the better one to be with Rory.

I have watched this series countless times. I think the actors were brilliant. This was a climactic scene for our heroin. She listens to a voice from her past and is reminded why she loved him. He comes to not brag about his accomplishments, but to thank her for inspiring him. She feels like she has accomplished something too. Logan ,on the other hand , doesn't give her this satisfaction. He wants to Party until he has to work for a living. The part that bothers me is that Rory never reveals to her Mom where she got her inspiration from. Like it was HER decision , and nobody influenced her. Although Lorelei should know she can be influenced (Mitchum). Jess was a powerful person in Rory's life and it should have been acknowledged. However, it still was a well written show and these actors portrayed the characters so well we believe they could be real people. I loved the first three seasons the best, but some of the other seasons, like this one where Jess returns brings Rory back to her roots. The Jess / Rory relationship was more positive than any other to me. Again in the revival he changes her perspective. Why cheat with Logan and not think again about Jess?
Maybe she likes the comfort of not committing. She turned his proposal down , but still has a relationship with him. Puzzling. Great cast. It really doesn't end with any closure. Just another cliffhanger.

from what Logan knew he had a right to be concerned about jess and rory being together while he was gone but being rude to jess wasn't a nice move. rory shouldn't have gotten so mad about him always going out with his friends. im not saying that it isn't irritating but they could have discussed that and figured something out. it really wasn't logan's fault that rory dropped out of yale. logan has every right to complain about being rich and a part of a family like his because it really can suck and it wasnt his choice to be a part of that family

Logan was right about being pushed through a door. Although these rich kids seem very reckless and like they can have anything in life it's not true at all. Most of them don't get to do something as simple as choosing their major in college, they're forced to take buisness/econ, they're forced to run the family's buisness. If they want to do anything else, they're cut off and asked to move out. Everything logan said about his pre-ordained life is true, he knew once he graduated from college this fun and freedom was over for him, he would have to live like mitchum. Guys like logan lack confidence and are made to believe they can't do anything in life without their parents money and that's why they don't leave everything and go like most people suggest him to. I mean they even criticised rory, anything he chooses is apparently wrong, another reason to why guys like logan don't commit, they're scared of their families.

Even when she became pregnant and decided to keep the baby Richard and Christopher's dad decided without consulting either of them that they are to get married and Christopher would work for Richard. THAT is what she ran away from and left her financial privilege behind, all whilst 16 years old with minimal education. This is why people compare the situation with Logan, it's just he doesn't have the balls to just up and leave because he enjoys his privilege too much. He has the education and connections via friends who would likely not disassociate from him even if he did decide to leave so it just makes him look like a whiny baby when he goes on about his struggles.

He had no right to treat Jess the way he did and Rory was 100% right to call him out on it. I actually wish she would’ve been harder on him than she was. I’ll never know what fans saw in Logan. He was the worst. At least Jess matured and succeeded in life. Even in the revival, Logan remained a spoiled rich kid treating people like dirt while Jess had his life together. Although in the revival Rory was one of the worst characters ever so I guess she deserved Logan at that point.

All the people said that Logan was let her take her own desition but the only thing I see is that he don't care what rory choice if was with him, because is suppose that a person that love you a care about you tell you when you are doing a mess of you life, because they know know you, Logan don't care he just assume that rory will be on track magically for her own, hello world on real life when you are drowning on your problems you need a little wake up call someone to tell you that something is wrong (Jess don't take the decision to Rory came back to Yale, but he said what was wrong because he knew something was bad) and Logan you live with all the stuff without said anything because was comfortable with rory (he don't care what was happening with her) and yeah Rory said that she just was partying and doing nothing ok that is rory fault but if Logan knew her he could said something about have to deal of if she was OK (not just assume) yeah he like party so he don't have a problem with rory doing the same but he has to knew something was off because rory wasn't that way (if he want to changer or just throng her life because he want to believe she will figured out eventually)

HI! Do you remember last time Jess showep up? He was saying lets go ... leave Yale. .. Just writers want to do something special with character... but everyone knows Rory even Logan (remember why Logan didnt start something with Rory) ... Rory at this point was tired about her relation with grandma and Jess just said something that she didnt want to recognize. .. but Lorelai did, París did even Logan did ... just Jess'moment glory by writers thats all

@Bendita vanidad Very well said!!! I agree 100 %... I really hate when people write that Jess is perfect for her because of this Yale moment (and they all forget about the incident where Jess forced himself on her)...like really people??? He gave her a good advice - yes! But you have to be delusional to think that Rory went back to Yale only because of saint Jess! It was just a matter of time for her to get things right and let's say that Jess had a good timing- but that doesn't make him perfect for her...

Actually, all of you Jess shippers piss me off. He was so toxic for her, maybe because he was young and had bad childhood but still super bad boyfriend. You completely ignore everything bad he did and praise him. Logan, has flaws but HE IS the balance Rory needed. You COMPLETELY ignored the fact that he did tell her she is making mistake and that she loves school and will come back in a month. It was her decision to do otherwise and everyone is blaming him, like she is not an adult with her own opinion. He was supportive and respectful of her decisions because he was also brought up in household with high expectations and knows what it’s like to be pressured and didn’t want to do the same to the person he loved (which is realistic and admirable quality in a boyfriend). A lot of college kids take a gap year to figure things out, he did, most of his friends did and they all got back to school. Yes, he is privileged but so is she, at least he is not being a hypocrite about it. I’m tired of all of you people putting Rory as a saint. The fact that not even Lorelai (which is the most important person in her life) was able to convince her to go back means it was Rory’s stubborn decision. The only reason why Jess has “gotten through” her is because he is basically a third party, both Lorelai and Logan are too involved in her life for her to listen. Writers wanted Jess to be the end game and needed a story to follow but all they did is made Rory person without her own opinion that needs somebody else to tell her what to do. And Logan is the only one in her life that actually let her do what she wanted to do and make her learn from it...

I agree that logan was a jerk to jess but....if u come back early and see ur gf/bf hanging around with her ex...u defiantly would be jealous and angry. But I hate rory for blaming logan....I m logan tried to convince her to go back to collage but she did not listen...atleast he did not shout on her and made her feel she is a failure...he respected her dicsion and her knew already why she needed the time off.

You know Rory talks to Logan everyday. I'm sure she didn't tell him she was having dinner with Jess. Just like she didn't tell him Marty pretended not to know her. And when Logan finds out Rory pretends it was just a misunderstanding.

@@london4345 I definitely see your point though I agree with that too though, I was just adding that Dean still would have yelled at her too like this! Jess didn't even yell at Rory for hanging out with Dean, he simply asked her, and just wanted her to be honest with him, and let him know about it. Yeah Logan yelling at her like this was bad. She had been crushed by his dad, she had goals, and ambitions, and his dad discouraged her, and he just let his dad discourage her, didn't do anything about it, and was encouraging her to keep partying and drinking, when she actually did want to do something for herself, then he starts yelling at her in public, and leaves her there. She was in the wrong for not telling him she was with Jess, but she was mad because mocked his talent, and ambitions, because she knew what it took for him to achieve that, and how hard he worked to getting there.

They were both WAYYYY out of line. Nobody was forcing Rory to quit and she could've worked hard for her dreams like Mitchum and pretty much anyone else. Same goes for Logan. If he really hated his "life" he could've had dreams and aspirations and worked hard to achieve them. But what they both really wanted was just to pretend like they weren't trust fund kids but still enjoy the benefits of endless wealth and status. I didn't sense any passion or eagerness from either of them in making a name for themselves. They were only passionate about complaining and wishing things were different. I mean I understand the struggle of nobody respecting you because you use your parent's money, but they could've expanded the business or at least done charity or something. And if not that, just admit your rich and enjoy life. I really don't get this mentality of hating everything and being negative. If these people are complaining what should a homeless person do?? Kill themselves?? It doesn't make sense. If they are both truly uncomfortable with being "born into wealth" and have some kind of "guilt" then just get an office job, make an average salary, and call it day!! There's absolutely nothing wrong with Rory using her maid because that's her JOB and she's employed to do so.
