    I think the fact that he remembered her birthday after this whole scene really shows how he cares for her. Logan had no idea when Rory's birthday was until Emily told him, and even after not being with Rory for years, he still remembered her birthday.

    • @iamsultana
      @iamsultana 5 лет назад +253

      The show was always very clear about that fact that Jess is in love with Rory. We know this since the moment he told her straight in S4.
      In fact, Jess did everything, even the things that hurt her, out of love for her - like leaving Stars Hollow, which was the best thing he could have done for her at a time when he had an identity crisis.
      I was never sure if Rory loved Jess though. Sometimes I think she doesn't, but then I look back at the initial seasons and you can tell she is head over heels smitten. So I don't know. Maybe she is like her mother who remained in denial about her feelings for Luke until he took the first step and kissed her.

    • @rustjones6914
      @rustjones6914 3 года назад +154

      @@iamsultana Rory was actually so in love with Jess that she couldn't even control her thoughts and actions, which is VERY UNLIKE RORY. Rory usually carefully plans everything she does. First Rory ended up defending Jess multiple times, then she took a bus to go see him even tho she missed her mom's graduation and skipped school, she talked about Jess to Paris and practically admitted she was in love with him, she cheated on dean with him, and she even wanted to lose her virginity to him. Rory has never broken the rules for ANYONE before but she did it multiple times for Jess. You could tell she also really valued his opinion and thought highly of him. Plus I think Rory was her most likeable self with Jess and she was really hurt when he left. It took her time to move on. I think she was so hurt by it that she never trusted him again. Rory was always herself with Jess, I don't think I ever saw her change herself for him. I also love how he pokes fun at her and doesn't worship her like a creep. Logan was too much for Rory, Dean was too little, and Jess was just right. Rory missed out

    The great thing about this is that it's not even surprising that Jess would be the one to set her straight. Out of all the people in her life, he was the one who was never afraid to hurt her feelings. Rory is constantly praised and ass-kissed and reassured; her hand is always being held by somebody, telling her what she wants to hear. Jess was the only one who didn't do that. That's what set him in such contrast with Dean. Jess never babied her. Granted, as teens when they were together, that meant some bad relationship moments where he wouldn't even talk to her. But overall I think it's why they're the best potential couple. She also never babied him. Equals don't need to - and hopefully in the revival, they will have reached that understanding and can finally end up together.

      Nath lol going to school has nothing to do with the person and their intelligence. Jess is a lot smarter then dean in my opinion. He just grew up with a rough background. My bf didn’t finish high school and he was what you’d call a bad boy but he’s incredibly smart, sweet, loyal, treats me well, and everything! And he has a bright future. His past was rough too. Jess is not a bad person in fact I think he was the best boyfriend material out of them all. Dean cheated on his wife for her which is fucked up. Logan also basically cheated on her and ended up cheating on his wife with her as well. Jess and Rory see each other at the same level. He sees through her shit and sets her straight. Which makes him great for her. Something my bf and I have is similar. We see through each other’s bs and call each other out. We’re honest with each other and we push each other

    This scene really proved to me that Jess was the right guy for Rory. He saw she was going in the wrong direction and knew he couldn't tell her what she wanted to hear. He needed to give her a real wakeup call that she was lost. He was there (for what two days maybe?) and he saw that she was in trouble and needed help. Logan had been dating her for awhile and was too consumed in his own pity to try to help her. That is why I never supported her relationship with Logan. She always had to take care of and focus on him and I don't think that care was returned.

    Reason, it is because she sees that he had accomplished in his life when he had NOTHING and she had EVERYTHING but had fallen so easily after ONE comment out of all the encouragement that she had received throughout her WHOLE life.

    Hands down the best scene on Gilmore Girls. This is why they were perfect for each other. Jess knew her better than anyone & he was the only one who could talk some sense into her. Dean never understood her in that way & Logan was too wrapped up in himself to care. And Jess went out of this way to help her even after they had broken up. He truly cared for her the most. I didn't like that Rory became a snotty trust-fund Porsche loving brat in season 6. Jess was right, they used to make fun of ppl like that & then Rory became one of them. Paris said it best, Logan was "a waste of a trust fund". You just know Rory & Jess eventually found their way back to each other. Esp since out of all her bf's, Jess was the only one she remained friends with. He understood her better than anyone else did or ever could.

    I think Dean was the perfect first boyfriend. Just to get her feet wet in the world of romance. But Jess was the one who fully showed her what a true relationship is. Ups and downs, but always going back to each other in the end. It's not a matter of him treating her like shit. I mean, yes, he definitely did have his moments. He just took his anger out on her, but in the end always came through to go after her and apologize. Whereas, with Logan, she was always the one who had to pick up the pieces. Jess is perfect for her. It was Jess that snapped her out of it in one conversation, not the others who loved her and tried dozens of times. He told her once and she woke up. That's saying something.

    I'm not afraid to admit that in the earlier seasons of GG I was a Dean/Rory shipper. Jess was a complete jerk and treat her terribly, too emotionally incontinent. That being said she outgrew Dean, and this Jess right here was right for Rory. He got his act together, dropped that "I don't give a crap about anything" attitude. His intelligence, his passion and his wit always matched Rory's and unlike Dean, I think Rory grew into Jess

      @@jenng1770 he was a petty possessive jerk, constantly jealous of everything that might take rory away from him for 5 minutes. He always got angry when she prioritized her education and let's face it he was never gonna leave that town and have a bright future. Even if Jess hadn't come along, which let to their break up, they wouldn't have been in it for the long haul. Rory's success would have taken her places where Dean wouldn't be able to come along. Lorelei wanted better for her, and Rory was always going to put her career before a guy. Jess is probably the only guy who could deal with that. She needs to find herself, and is strong enough and independent enough to do that. I do believe that her and Jess stand a chance in the future though. He is always connected to her through Luke and he clearly still loves her. I reckon once she found herself, like Luke did with Lorelei, he will wait for her..

On the other hand though I don't know I read that they did want Milo to come back in the last season and make it seem like Rory and Jess would end up together but at that point him and Alexis were no longer together and weren't getting along. That's one of the bad parts about dating your costar it can affect what happens on the show and the viewer feels like that got cheated out of something.

    Jess was the perfect boyfriend. Everyone says "But he treated her like shit" well it may have been viewed that way but think about it Rory didn't have to change for Jess because Jess already knew and loved who she was the moment he saw her in her bedroom surrounded by books.
    Logan changed her for the worst, she dropped out of college for gods sake.
    Dean was always expecting her to be this good girl but she isn't. She isn't a good girl, she isn't a bad girl.
    And the fact that after all this time, after 3 years they found their way back to each other is incredible. Dean lives in Stars-hollow so of course they will run into each other but Jess moved away and lost all contact with Rory and he finds her just to talk to her about her life and give him his book and to see what she would think.
    Jess was always the right choice and I'll stick by that until they come back together

    this is one of my favorite scenes on the show. it showed how much jess had progressed since he was last seen in the penultimate episode of the 4th season. seeing what happened to rory forced him to really say something. rory got crushed by some asshole who doesn't know anything about newspapers or journalism. lorelai tried to get rory back on track but didn't fully understand how lost rory was. richard and emily i think tried to protect her and give her something to do but richard realized that they're making things worse. if it was dean who had returned, he wouldn't do anything because he's a fuckin' tool. jess was the right person at the right time to really get her back on track and wake up.

If anything she had become a parody of herself, hosting parties, living with her stuffy grandparents, going out to party all night long, dating some fancy pants trust fund porsche driving douchebag, this was not Rory. The old Rory wouldn't be going out with Richie Rich there, the old Rory would be out with someone like Jess, someone who knew her inside and out. Thankfully he was there that night to snap her out of it and show that she's wasting her life, undoing everything Lorelai had done for her.
