I mean its very obvious and can be summed up shortly. Japanese fishing boats are INSANE, like stupidly good that singlehandedly makes this civ good on water or hybrid maps. But when you take away the water their biggest strength is just gone. I dont get why they dont nerf the fishing boats a little bit like to 50 wood at least, which is still cheap af and give them other buffs that are useful on land. The Castle Landmarks are really weak overall I feel like. I mean I like the bonuses you get from putting the things in your buildings and thats neat and all but it takes time to be actually paid off and its still shit compared to other landmarks. A good very light buff would be that you could put the thingy's onto the landmark itself so that you dont have to build like 10 goldmines in ur base to get the extra gold. But its also very weird that a civ that has very weak feudal has only economic landmarks as the standard landmark choice.
I am a main japanesse and ever faced any issue and have mostly always won my 1v1 , japanesse economic is soo good that feudal rush is the strongest to fast hit your oponent economic while you defend qith tower and incredible good TC and with the ona bugeisha that counter pikeman , your cav become the strongest
Abbey meta is the best thing that could happen to English opponents. Willingly giving up on Council Hall, all the tempo and pressure it gives, is just playing with a handicap.
@@malylibi Can't agree with that, in my opinion it just very slightly delays the opponent mirroring 2nd TC / responding with FC to 2nd TC forcing 1 Outpost, which is very niche and far from being enough to be a super good landmark. But it's fine to have different opinions.
@@olegdragora2557 I mean you can go 2TC king into feudal doesn't always have to be a fast castle. I have picked up some nice wins against Abbasid players playing like that in around diamond 2-3. It can be pretty difficult to deal with as Abbasid because the king is able to heal the longbows and the initial few horses won't deal much damage with the king there. I just go abbey into archer range into second TC then just a handful of longbows to poke. If Abbasid stays in feudal it is extremely favoured towards you, especially if they on same TC count if they overreact and drop a ton of production its sort of best case scenario as your forcing them to stay in feudal but you can even then just fast castle behind it, if they don't drop production buildings and sort of try to fast castle on sight of the initial longbows, you can just double down and turn it into a all-in or just keep building troops to contain them, stop them getting food, relics etc until you can castle yourself.
@@jordanomasuin8023 In my opinion, Council Hall is just better if you are going to fight, be it aggression or defending 2nd TC. It gives much more tempo, which translates into a significant military lead. Having more Longbowmen out is a much bigger problem for the first few horses than a single knight unit. It can be a difference between clearing the Longbowmen while ignoring the King, or losing Horsemen to Longbowmen. Healing is nice, but being in a position where you are the side maintaining map control and constantly threatening the opponent with Longbowmen mass is much better. But I'm happy if you like it, it's good when the game provides different options for people with different points of view. I just think the Abbey is nowhere near overpowered as a lot of people claim and it wasn't before the nerf, in my opinion it's very situational and in a lot of situations Council Hall is straight up better.

You're right Japanese opponent is almost always an easy win.
Japan is by far not the weakest.
Its S-Tier on water and hybrid maps.
Also its a very good feudal / early castle civ due to the berry gathering rate.
