I absolutely love to just listen to you gals talk! I lived in Elizabeth city, N.C. for years before returning to Washington state. I miss the accent and the culture! There is such a sense of not just history but family history! We don’t have much of that on the west coast! I live in a military town that changes almost daily! Tipper, I am so truly grateful for your channel. I have had just the most trying past few days. Being a single mom without any family nearby and my dear friends so far away, everything falls on me. Whenever I feel overwhelmed or sad, I try to remember my roots. My family, part of it, came to America before it was America. Way back in 1634, my 11th great grandfather came to Massachusetts. That farm he built is still in our family. I have walked that land just as all my ancestors have. On days like this, my thoughts are turned to them and the strength and resilience they had to of had to carry on. I think of the good strong stock I come from. Your channel is always there to bring my thoughts back to my own sound foundation. Your calm voice and confidence in your family are always able to remind me of what is truly important. What honestly comes to my mind right now is a line said by the character Zebulon Walton on The Waltons. It was something along the lines of "What's important in life is good love and hard work, and that's about it." I may have botch that really bad but that's the gist of it. Thank you for always being there with your beautiful family to give me the peace of mind that I think everyone needs so desperately these days.
Loraann, my ancestor, Michel Dwinell, also arrived in Topsfield, Massachusetts at that time and I've visited the Dwinell farm and the cemetery in town. Maybe we are cousins or our ancestors were neighbors!
@Liffster very possible, the name doesn't sound familiar in my genealogy but of course those rarly follow the women's sides. We come from George Little in Newbury, Massachusetts. Also, Moore is the other side of that family.

Loved this video. Made me remember some of my ancestors, and I will share a little bit. My dad was a native american, and one of his relatives told me this. I was pregnant at the time. *Mother* means my first home. The baby hears its first drumming (the heartbeat of his/her mom and the echo of the grandmother's heartbeat). Before your baby is born, loved ones who are in heaven get to hold your baby. These words gave me so much comfort.
The salt story! I always made a cherry pie for my FIL for any and every occasion. Once I baked the most beautiful cherry pie and i was serving when my uncle, who would say anytning, anytime, the spit his bite out and said it was horrible and too salty. I looked over at my FIL who was eating his bite graciously and said it wS winderful. Well, it wasn't wonderful! Turns out, I had grabbed the canister of canning salt instead of sugar!!! We all laughed but I'll never forget my FIL trying to eat that pue to keep from hurting my feelings!!! I've never made that mistake again,🤣🤣🤣🤣
Tipper, I am Wilson/Sharp. When I started genealogy about 15 years ago, I was kind of disappointed that most of my ancestors stayed in the general area that they first settled when they came to America. We had a few more adventurous ones that headed elsewhere, but most stayed in Southern Appalachia. Now that I'm a little older, I get it. What a wonderful place it is to be born and raised there. I miss it terribly. ❤ I tear up when I see you get sentimental.
My grandmother dipped snuff, and I loved these glasses. Later on, snuff came in plastic glasses. They came in different colors such as pink, red, green, blue and gold. I liked those too.
I've got my cookbook and plan to make this pie! Katie has to be the healthiest mama to be I've ever seen. She looks so good all the time. I can see little bit isn't so little and it looks as though he has dropped a bit. Can't wait to slap my eyes on these grand babies! I have 2 precious grandsons myself and not a day goes by that I don't thank the Lord❤
I have to say I'm just sitting here with tears in my eyes. I'm thinking of my grandmother on my mother's side and wishing I had spent more time with her. But we have to keep the old ways if we can.❤
We just purchased several special pieces from my husband’s grandmothers estate. One of which was a collection of jelly jar glasses. About 17 of them I believe. Very special to us.
Across the highway from me is a homeplace that has been deserted for 50 years. The last tenants were brother and sister, Jim and Clara, who never married and lived there all their lives. I still find snuff jars in the woods, not near the house and not in the same dumping place. I have wondered if someone tried to conceal the fact that they used snuff. The old unpainted house still stands, open to the elements. Looking through the window to Clara's bedroom, one still sees a narrow iron bed and a dress hanging from a nail on the wall. She had papered the walls with a good-quality paper and despite exposure to the elements its pattern is still intact.
I deeply share your feeling of having family close and having your daughters and their children make the same steps in the same places that you did. My husband and I are overjoyed that our thirty one year old daughter and eighth month old grandson live with us. We are blessed in every way. I enjoy your channel and stories so much. You are the backbone of True America and your knowledge and wisdom is appreciated. Thank You and congratulations on your and Matt’s upcoming joys.
I have ancestors that I never met in this life but feel like i know them because of the stories told by my parents, aunts and uncles. I think it's important to research your history. It gives you a foundation of where you come from!
I completely understand your feelings about that connection to the land and your family’s history. I am 5th generation on the land where I live, still surrounded by relatives. When I’m working in my yard or gardening, I often think about my grandparents, generations back, working the same land. I feel such a deep connection to this place and those gone on before me. ❤️

My grandma Adams had a brother who married her husband’s sister. I love finding things like that in my family tree. I am the family historian and I love your stories of family. As to Appalachian culture spreading to other places, many people moved away to find work and took the culture with them.
This is so precious, I think as far back as my grandparents on both sides. You remind me of my cousin Margaret, she is ten tears older than me but has wealth of knowledge about my mom’s family. When my grandfather passed, we found boxes of pictures that he never spoke of. We cannot identify a lot people in the pictures, dating back to the early 1900’s. We’ll never know why he didn’t share content of those pictures. Thank you so much for sharing your family history!❤️🙏🇨🇦
I’m the youngest of twelve with a 25 year age span. I definitely grew up with the older grandchildren, some of whom we have already lost. We lost the first (and oldest) sibling 9 days before I turned 50. We were lucky to have each other for that long. Now 20 years later we still have 6 of us. 💙

Tipper me and my three girls was just talking the other day about our little family. Like you it is losing and growing all at the same time. My oldest daughter said Mama I’m so glad our family gets together and eats for just any kind of celebration or holiday that we can cause you never know from one occasion to the next which chair will be the empty one. This is so true from day to day as we look around.

You are very blessed to have all your family history in a book. I’ve tried in years past to trace my family genealogy on both sides of parents people. It was easier on my dad’s side, but harder on my mom’s side because her father was supposed to be of Indian descent, but no records found. That pie sure sounds good. I’ll have to make one for my husband, he loves apple pie.

Thank you for sharing your families' history with us. I wish I had that same beautiful and precious sense of place that you have. My families have not even been in America for that long. My parents always moved around when I was younger and now I struggle with feeling like I don't really belong anywhere.
I love this video history of family is one of my favorite things to do I have traced my family on my grandma side all the way to the 1700's and that led me to my great great great grandfather from England

Thank you for sharing this pie recipe from your great aunt. My gramma had a yellow cake that she made for years. My mom said she made it for birthdays and other special occasions when my mom and her sisters were growing up. I too remember enjoying that cake while I was growing up. When I was in my late teens, I was really getting into baking and I decided that I wanted to make that cake. So I asked my gramma for the recipe. Being an Italian immigrant, my gramma learned to cook in her little village in the mountains of central Italy the way her mother and mother-in-law taught her, by eye. She never really measured properly. So I said to her “I will pour out the flour and the sugar, etc. and you tell me when to stop, then I will measure the amounts and write them down. That way we’ll always have your recipe.” And that’s what we did. I still remember that day so clearly. Gramma was so proud that I wanted to learn her cake recipe. She died a few years after that in 1985 and to this day, I still have the original recipe that I wrote down that day after carefully measuring out all the ingredients. I have since made other copies for myself and other family members. And I can’t tell you how many times I have made that cake over the years. But we always called that yellow cake with buttercream frosting “Gramma’s Cake” and we still do. In fact, it has become my nephew’s favorite cake. And he jokingly refers to it as “Great-Gramma’s Cake”. I guess that was a long, drawn out way to tell you that my family too has a recipe that we named after a family member. Those are the best recipes, aren’t they? 🙂
That's a lovely story about Grandma's cake. It's wonderful how you replicated it when she was still with you, now you're able to pass it down. I would be grateful if you shared the recipe. I'm in a Reddit group called "Old Recipes". It's really great when people pass along recipes from generations. For me, I prefer the ones without packaged ingredients (boxed cake mix, seasoning packets, etc) A lot of the postings are 70's recipes, which aren't that old in my opinion. I LOVE the ones 100 years old or more 😊
Such Great Memories of Pure Richness Tipper. I Admire that Katie remembers so much of her Childhood as well. I bet that Pie was so Delicious as well. I often time I had more of the different Relics since so many of them r Gone now. Most of them were poor, but the Togetherness and Love was unspeakable. I Only have little trinkets of my Mother's Jewelry incased in a Shadow Box that I made after she died. Nothing from my Dad. Even today, I think of what could have been. This is my favorite time of day. Near 6 p.m. I live alone so eat my supper about 5-5:30. Once the kitchen is cleaned I sit down & turn on RUclips to see the Pressely Family & what you all have been doing for the day. I also just watched Corrie make White Chicken Chili & share it at your house for your supper. It's been a beautiful day in the Sandhills of NC today. Hi, Tipper! That pie looks great! If you're worried about scrambling the eggs - in this, or any other recipe - you can 'temper' them, by adding a little bit of the hot mixture to the raw eggs and mixing them up well. This brings the eggs' temperature closer to the level of the stuff in the main pot, and you can then add them without mishap.

My granny Allen on my dad side used to dip snuff but I never saw a glass like that but she did use a Maxwell coffee can beside her chair and she used to spit it in there. Good memories.. I also wish that I would’ve been able to spend more time with my Mamaw Smith on my mom’s side. She lived in North Carolina and we had moved to Michigan. You know as everybody did to get a job but I really miss her you brought tears to my eyes. Thank you I love your videos.
I enjoyed this pie recipe and family history. My grandmother was born in 1891 and died 1974 similar to one of your relatives. She had 9 children to live, but her twins died as toddlers.

I realized that you have many of the same recipes that I grew up with and use today. I am 75, my mother was from Tennessee and my grandmother was from Kentucky and later lived in west Va. I also saw that much of your daily life is like mine. I was raised in Georgia and now live in Florida. I love your videos as I can relate to so much of what you share. My Dad died before I married and had children. While I did my best to tell my kids about him and give them a sense of who he was, there came a time when I felt I failed at that. I told my husband that I felt compelled to take them to Tennessee, so they could see the farm where he was born and meet some of the second cousin's who still lived in the area. I told him I was afraid that when I died, I'd take all that was left of my Dad with me. So, off to Tennessee we went where my children were able to walk the fields where my father had walked, stand beside the garden area that my grandparents used for planting and visit the old cemetery where generations of the Daniel family rest. My children met the children of my second cousins and they are now well connected via Facebook; sharing photos, information and memories. I'm now certain my father will remain with them in a special way, even though they never physically met. Your video tonight brought all the memories of the trip roaring back. Thank you!
I can relate to your family thoughts. Similar here. I walk land that my father, grandparents and great grandparents walked The school where I am principal was built in the 1930s. My grandfather was one of the carpenters. My grandmother taught there and my dad's siblings attended there as did I. So I understand the feelings of deep roots.

I live here in Braggs Ok, My great Grandpa lived here and he was born in 1860 , my grandma was born in 1893 and it was still Braggs Indian Territory then, and I’m 70 and I’m like you folks I’m staying here cause of all my family history here. I Watch everything you guys do , and I watch everything the girls do . I tell my wife if I was to ever move I want to live in that holler with the Pressley’s. I wanted Katie to have little bit on March 10th cause that was my first granddaughter’s birthday, so now I want her to have it on the 24th that’s my youngest granddaughters birthday. We pray’n for both girls to have a blessed and easy delivery for both boys. Thank you guys for these wonderful videos, Oh ! I have 4 rolls of onions that have broke ground and growing everyday.

My mom's family had a similar connection to the land. Everyone but Mom on her side of the family lived within a few counties in southern Iowa, and their ancestors had lived there and farmed the land for several generations. I wish she'd been able to raise me and my brother there. We visited once or twice a year, and I got enough of a taste of it to understand what you mean. Thanks for the family stories!

I love your snuff jars! It reminds me of great grandmother mawmaw Cole, she dipped snuff and she reused the jars as her cups. She always drank her Pepsi in it. And the she would have one lined with a paper towel that she spit in. But you would never know she ever had snuff in her mouth. That brought back good memories seeing those jars. I wish i had one of her old ones. She was an application woman from Sand Mountain Alabama. My family and my husband's originated from Sand Mountain and both families by our grandparents, his grandfather and my grandmother both on our mothers sides of the family ended up in Chickamauga Ga where we both grew up and met, and now we have moved back to Sand Mountain. We love the appalachia way of life and wouldn't ever want to leave this area. Although we didn't grow up in the mountains they were all around us and part of both our lives in so many ways, many family reunions traveling back to Alabama for both of us as children and stories and the way we were raised was influenced by mountain people. We just felt a pull to go back to the mountains and God worked it out for us to be able to do just tht and now we are trying to start a homestead, that our two girls can hopefully have and have the memories from generations like you described about your home place and grow up in a slower pace of life. We love your channel, thank yall for doing it and keeping these old traditions that seem to be dying out! It feels like yall have became a part of our family and we enjoy all the videos so much! My 8 year old loves listening to the stories that you read and if I listen without her she gets mad at me. Lol! ❤❤
Love the video!!! My great grandmother dipped Garret snuff! She passed away when I was 18! I didn’t get any of her snuff glasses however I buy them anytime I run across them! They are my favorite small drinking glasses 😊
I was interested in your family history. My family, with a long history in rural Wisconsin, has similar family relationships. My great-grandmother, Ella, and her sister, Bertha, married brothers, August and Jules, respectively. My grandmother, Connie, and her cousin, David, were double cousins! They are all gone now, but I was fortunate enough to know all of them. Treasured memories.

I love genealogy and thinking about all those folks who came before us and knowing some of their traits still live on within those of us still here. So neat to have that info and the pictures from the book. I also associate recipes with the person I get them from! For example, my family has "Ruth's Fresh Apple Cake" with Ruth being my great-aunt. But of course, there's Fresh Apple Cake all over Appalachia so it's certainly not 'hers' per se.
I know what you mean. I love genealogy but it's so cool when you can be someplace your family was for a long time or someplace that ment something to them. I got to do that in MO. I even got to hold a book of minutes my third great grandma wrote for her church. I love cooking the old recipes too. I wonder how many of us enjoyed the same meal over time. It's fun to see the variations across the family too. 😆
Memories are special, sweet and bitter sweet. Your family is so special. I don’t remember snuff jars but I remember snuff cans. My grandma was born in 1906. She dipped Honey Bee snuff. I wanted so much to dip snuff. Finally when I was 9 years old my grandma gave me a tiny pinch. Thought my mouth was on fire. Never did that again! My Gran passed in 1993. I still miss her.
My family did much the same thing as your ancestors. I am 56 years old and I have an Aunt Sherri that is 2 months older and also Aunt Missy is 3 years younger. Grew up as great friends and more like cousins than my mother's sisters. I always found it odd that my grandmother was still having children when her children were. There are 4 cousins and 1 aunt all about the same age, within a year.

Once I baked the most beautiful cherry pie and i was serving when my uncle, who would say anytning, anytime, the spit his bite out and said it was horrible and too salty. I looked over at my FIL who was eating his bite graciously and said it wS winderful. Well, it wasn't wonderful! Turns out, I had grabbed the canister of canning salt instead of sugar!!! We all laughed but I'll never forget my FIL trying to eat that pue to keep from hurting my feelings!!! I've never made that mistake again,🤣🤣🤣🤣

Tipper, I am Wilson/Sharp. When I started genealogy about 15 years ago, I was kind of disappointed that most of my ancestors stayed in the general area that they first settled when they came to America. We had a few more adventurous ones that headed elsewhere, but most stayed in Southern Appalachia. Now that I'm a little older, I get it. What a wonderful place it is to be born and raised there. I miss it terribly. ❤ I tear up when I see you get sentimental.
My grandmother dipped snuff, and I loved these glasses. Later on, snuff came in plastic glasses. They came in different colors such as pink, red, green, blue and gold. I liked those too.
My Grandmother always saved the little glasses that the Armour Dried Beef comes in and I do the same now. It’s a perfect glass for little hands.

I've got my cookbook and plan to make this pie! Katie has to be the healthiest mama to be I've ever seen. She looks so good all the time. I can see little bit isn't so little and it looks as though he has dropped a bit. Can't wait to slap my eyes on these grand babies! We just purchased several special pieces from my husband’s grandmothers estate. One of which was a collection of jelly jar glasses. About 17 of them I believe. Very special to us.

Across the highway from me is a homeplace that has been deserted for 50 years. The last tenants were brother and sister, Jim and Clara, who never married and lived there all their lives. I still find snuff jars in the woods, not near the house and not in the same dumping place. I have wondered if someone tried to conceal the fact that they used snuff. The old unpainted house still stands, open to the elements. Looking through the window to Clara's bedroom, one still sees a narrow iron bed and a dress hanging from a nail on the wall. She had papered the walls with a good-quality paper and despite exposure to the elements its pattern is still intact.

I deeply share your feeling of having family close and having your daughters and their children make the same steps in the same places that you did. My husband and I are overjoyed that our thirty one year old daughter and eighth month old grandson live with us. We are blessed in every way. I enjoy your channel and stories so much. I completely understand your feelings about that connection to the land and your family’s history. I am 5th generation on the land where I live, still surrounded by relatives. When I’m working in my yard or gardening, I often think about my grandparents, generations back, working the same land. I feel such a deep connection to this place and those gone on before me. ❤️

My grandma Adams had a brother who married her husband’s sister. I love finding things like that in my family tree. I am the family historian and I love your stories of family. As to Appalachian culture spreading to other places, many people moved away to find work and took the culture with them.
This is so precious, I think as far back as my grandparents on both sides. You remind me of my cousin Margaret, she is ten tears older than me but has wealth of knowledge about my mom’s family. When my grandfather passed, we found boxes of pictures that he never spoke of. We cannot identify a lot people in the pictures, dating back to the early 1900’s. We’ll never know why he didn’t share content of those pictures. Thank you so much for sharing your family history!❤️🙏🇨🇦

I’m the youngest of twelve with a 25 year age span. I definitely grew up with the older grandchildren, some of whom we have already lost. We lost the first (and oldest) sibling 9 days before I turned 50. We were lucky to have each other for that long. Now 20 years later we still have 6 of us. 💙

Tipper me and my three girls was just talking the other day about our little family. Like you it is losing and growing all at the same time. My oldest daughter said Mama I’m so glad our family gets together and eats for just any kind of celebration or holiday that we can cause you never know from one occasion to the next which chair will be the empty one. This is so true from day to day as we look around.

You are very blessed to have all your family history in a book. I’ve tried in years past to trace my family genealogy on both sides of parents people. It was easier on my dad’s side, but harder on my mom’s side because her father was supposed to be of Indian descent, but no records found. That pie sure sounds good. I’ll have to make one for my husband, he loves apple pie.

Thank you for sharing this pie recipe from your great aunt. My gramma had a yellow cake that she made for years. My mom said she made it for birthdays and other special occasions when my mom and her sisters were growing up. I too remember enjoying that cake while I was growing up. When I was in my late teens, I was really getting into baking and I decided that I wanted to make that cake. So I asked my gramma for the recipe. Being an Italian immigrant, my gramma learned to cook in her little village in the mountains of central Italy the way her mother and mother-in-law taught her, by eye. She never really measured properly. So I said to her “I will pour out the flour and the sugar, etc. and you tell me when to stop, then I will measure the amounts and write them down. That way we’ll always have your recipe.” And that’s what we did. I still remember that day so clearly. Gramma was so proud that I wanted to learn her cake recipe. She died a few years after that in 1985 and to this day, I still have the original recipe that I wrote down that day after carefully measuring out all the ingredients. I have since made other copies for myself and other family members. And I can’t tell you how many times I have made that cake over the years. But we always called that yellow cake with buttercream frosting “Gramma’s Cake” and we still do. In fact, it has become my nephew’s favorite cake. And he jokingly refers to it as “Great-Gramma’s Cake”. I guess that was a long, drawn out way to tell you that my family too has a recipe that we named after a family member. Those are the best recipes, aren’t they? 🙂
That's a lovely story about Grandma's cake. It's wonderful how you replicated it when she was still with you, now you're able to pass it down.
I would be grateful if you shared the recipe. I'm in a Reddit group called "Old Recipes". It's really great when people pass along recipes from generations. For me, I prefer the ones without packaged ingredients (boxed cake mix, seasoning packets, etc) A lot of the postings are 70's recipes, which aren't that old in my opinion. I LOVE the ones 100 years old or more 😊

Such Great Memories of Pure Richness Tipper. I Admire that Katie remembers so much of her Childhood as well. I bet that Pie was so Delicious as well. I often time I had more of the different Relics since so many of them r Gone now. Most of them were poor, but the Togetherness and Love was unspeakable. I Only have little trinkets of my Mother's Jewelry incased in a Shadow Box that I made after she died. Nothing from my Dad. Even today, I think of what could have been. This is my favorite time of day. Near 6 p.m. I live alone so eat my supper about 5-5:30. Once the kitchen is cleaned I sit down & turn on RUclips to see the Pressely Family & what you all have been doing for the day. I also just watched Corrie make White Chicken Chili & share it at your house for your supper. It's been a beautiful day in the Sandhills of NC today. Hi, Tipper! That pie looks great! If you're worried about scrambling the eggs - in this, or any other recipe - you can 'temper' them, by adding a little bit of the hot mixture to the raw eggs and mixing them up well. This brings the eggs' temperature closer to the level of the stuff in the main pot, and you can then add them without mishap.
I sure appreciate your videos, and the apples by you are huge compared to the apples we have at the stores here.

My granny Allen on my dad side used to dip snuff but I never saw a glass like that but she did use a Maxwell coffee can beside her chair and she used to spit it in there. Good memories.. I also wish that I would’ve been able to spend more time with my Mamaw Smith on my mom’s side. She lived in North Carolina and we had moved to Michigan. You know as everybody did to get a job but I really miss her you brought tears to my eyes. Thank you I love your videos.
I enjoyed this pie recipe and family history. My grandmother was born in 1891 and died 1974 similar to one of your relatives. She had 9 children to live, but her twins died as toddlers.

I realized that you have many of the same recipes that I grew up with and use today. I am 75, my mother was from Tennessee and my grandmother was from Kentucky and later lived in west Va. I also saw that much of your daily life is like mine. I was raised in Georgia and now live in Florida. I love your videos as I can relate to so much of what you share. My Dad died before I married and had children. While I did my best to tell my kids about him and give them a sense of who he was, there came a time when I felt I failed at that. I told my husband that I felt compelled to take them to Tennessee, so they could see the farm where he was born and meet some of the second cousin's who still lived in the area. I told him I was afraid that when I died, I'd take all that was left of my Dad with me. So, off to Tennessee we went where my children were able to walk the fields where my father had walked, stand beside the garden area that my grandparents used for planting and visit the old cemetery where generations of the Daniel family rest. My children met the children of my second cousins and they are now well connected via Facebook; sharing photos, information and memories. I'm now certain my father will remain with them in a special way, even though they never physically met. Your video tonight brought all the memories of the trip roaring back. Thank you!

I can relate to your family thoughts. Similar here. I walk land that my father, grandparents and great grandparents walked The school where I am principal was built in the 1930s. My grandfather was one of the carpenters. My grandmother taught there and my dad's siblings attended there as did I. So I understand the feelings of deep roots.

I live here in Braggs Ok, My great Grandpa lived here and he was born in 1860 , my grandma was born in 1893 and it was still Braggs Indian Territory then, and I’m 70 and I’m like you folks I’m staying here cause of all my family history here. I Watch everything you guys do , and I watch everything the girls do . I tell my wife if I was to ever move I want to live in that holler with the Pressley’s. I wanted Katie to have little bit on March 10th cause that was my first granddaughter’s birthday, so now I want her to have it on the 24th that’s my youngest granddaughters birthday. We pray’n for both girls to have a blessed and easy delivery for both boys. Thank you guys for these wonderful videos, Oh ! I have 4 rolls of onions that have broke ground and growing everyday.

My mom's family had a similar connection to the land. Everyone but Mom on her side of the family lived within a few counties in southern Iowa, and their ancestors had lived there and farmed the land for several generations. I wish she'd been able to raise me and my brother there. We visited once or twice a year, and I got enough of a taste of it to understand what you mean. Thanks for the family stories!

I love your snuff jars! It reminds me of great grandmother mawmaw Cole, she dipped snuff and she reused the jars as her cups. She always drank her Pepsi in it. And the she would have one lined with a paper towel that she spit in. But you would never know she ever had snuff in her mouth. That brought back good memories seeing those jars. I wish i had one of her old ones. She was an application woman from Sand Mountain Alabama. My family and my husband's originated from Sand Mountain and both families by our grandparents, his grandfather and my grandmother both on our mothers sides of the family ended up in Chickamauga Ga where we both grew up and met, and now we have moved back to Sand Mountain. We love the appalachia way of life and wouldn't ever want to leave this area. Although we didn't grow up in the mountains they were all around us and part of both our lives in so many ways, many family reunions traveling back to Alabama for both of us as children and stories and the way we were raised was influenced by mountain people. We just felt a pull to go back to the mountains and God worked it out for us to be able to do just tht and now we are trying to start a homestead, that our two girls can hopefully have and have the memories from generations like you described about your home place and grow up in a slower pace of life. We love your channel, thank yall for doing it and keeping these old traditions that seem to be dying out! It feels like yall have became a part of our family and we enjoy all the videos so much! My 8 year old loves listening to the stories that you read and if I listen without her she gets mad at me. Lol! ❤❤
Love the video!!! My great grandmother dipped Garret snuff! She passed away when I was 18! I didn’t get any of her snuff glasses however I buy them anytime I run across them! They are my favorite small drinking glasses 😊
I was interested in your family history. My family, with a long history in rural Wisconsin, has similar family relationships. My great-grandmother, Ella, and her sister, Bertha, married brothers, August and Jules, respectively. My grandmother, Connie, and her cousin, David, were double cousins! They are all gone now, but I was fortunate enough to know all of them. Treasured memories.

I love genealogy and thinking about all those folks who came before us and knowing some of their traits still live on within those of us still here. So neat to have that info and the pictures from the book. I also associate recipes with the person I get them from! For example, my family has "Ruth's Fresh Apple Cake" with Ruth being my great-aunt. But of course, there's Fresh Apple Cake all over Appalachia so it's certainly not 'hers' per se.

I know what you mean. I love genealogy but it's so cool when you can be someplace your family was for a long time or someplace that ment something to them. I got to do that in MO. I even got to hold a book of minutes my third great grandma wrote for her church. I love cooking the old recipes too. I wonder how many of us enjoyed the same meal over time. It's fun to see the variations across the family too. 😆
Memories are special, sweet and bitter sweet. Your family is so special. I don’t remember snuff jars but I remember snuff cans. My grandma was born in 1906. She dipped Honey Bee snuff. I wanted so much to dip snuff. Finally when I was 9 years old my grandma gave me a tiny pinch. Thought my mouth was on fire. Never did that again! My Gran passed in 1993. I still miss her.

My family did much the same thing as your ancestors. I am 56 years old and I have an Aunt Sherri that is 2 months older and also Aunt Missy is 3 years younger. Grew up as great friends and more like cousins than my mother's sisters. I always found it odd that my grandmother was still having children when her children were. There are 4 cousins and 1 aunt all about the same age, within a year.
