What The Hell Happened To The Gravity Rush?

- Running up walls and across ceilings. Flying through the air in any direction, and manipulating gravity all within a unique and quirky, comic book-inspired light JRPG. If all of these things sound appealing to you, then odds are you are at least aware of the Gravity Rush games. Odds are even better that you’ve played them and enjoy them. You certainly aren’t alone. Those who got what Gravity Rush was going for on the PlayStation Vita back in 2012 weren’t coming up short with compliments for the game’s innovative gameplay, interesting main character, and absolutely beguiling world.
The game was revealed as an early title for PlayStation’s brand-new portable console and was one of the Vita’s most well-received early games, giving the Vita a nice little bump in popularity with fans of oddball games and JRPGs alike. While it was largely overshadowed by Uncharted Golden Abyss and Little Big Planet Vita, Gravity Rush sold very well in Japan at launch and even held its own in the west reasonably well at first. It wasn’t a huge surprise that the game turned out well I suppose, as the criminally underrated Sony-owned development team Japan Studio were the folks behind it. With many of the minds behind the OG Silent Hill and Siren games working on something, odds are it’s going to be good.
But even still, what they were able to pull off with Gravity Rush on a handheld was nothing short of amazing despite the limitations of the hardware, relatively small budget, and all of the headache involved of starting development on the PS3 and winding up finishing it on the Vita. Yet, here we are. 3 whole years after the launch of the second Gravity Rush on the PlayStation 4 and not even a whisper of another game in the series. So, what happened? Has Kat soared through the skies of the planes and villages of Gravity Rush for the last time? If so, then what the hell happened to Gravity Rush?

I absolutely love this game. It’s criminally underrated and needs to be better marketed. The music and art alone are top notch! I loved the gameplay including the combat. I spent more than 40 hours exploring every nook and cranny of this game’s awesome and realized world. 10/10 from me.
I liked the game but hated the controls
The game is amazing, they HAVE to release a vr version..

The last thing I heard about Gravity Rush was that they’d make another one but wanted to do it with new technology 🤔 Was nice to see Kat during the reveal of the PS5 stream during the montage at the start though. I guess that means Sony haven’t completely forgotten about the series
Me 3 with overwatch 2

Wait, it was ? I'll prob buy a ps5 too then
If they were able to revive Ratchet and Clank and Little Big Planet, they can revive Gravity Rush for the PS5. Only time will tell when Japan Studio ends development on the new Astrobot game.
ZCS Dave No anime. The second game did have two animations you can see on RUclips though
I started playing GR Remastered the other day again after years, its crazy how well that game has aged, and GR2 is simply amazing, I truly hope we get to see a GR3 for the PS5
You can have a free DLC in the shop you also play a raven story
with new playable characters :0
I played both for the first time a month ago and it had to be some of the most fun gameplay I've ever played
@@adolf.hipster4885 Nah I want kat and raven to be the characters, I wouldn't mind segments of the game where you're like one of those soldier flying tech wing girls though, or a standalone with one of them. But Gravity Rush 3 should absolutely be the continuation of Kat and Raven's story.
Sucks that tye studio disbanded no more GR
Gravity Rush's music, and world is so good. How can you beat a game made by the Silent Hill creator with music by the guy who scores One Piece. I mean come on!?

@Sir Galahad I loved Tearaway
Because most people are filthy casuals with an attention span of a child. The only cool thing or instant gratification they can get is from CoD, sports games, Assassin Creed.
@Sir Galahad For alot of people I know, it's either Call of Duty or gtfo. It's frustrating.

We've reached the end of this generation and gr2 is still my favorite game! What happened to the franchise is a crime😭

Gr3 on the ps5. Blam. Port 1 and 2 on pc. Then gr3 on ps5 and pc.
I played on the psvita I played the og one
Not particularly. The game has a great story that basically wrapped up properly. The lore was finished by releasing the destroyer that basically manifested the many nevi. Another game in the series may not necessarily be great. I'm not opposed to this game having no more sequels......nothing should last forever....every game and story should have a beginning and end and then you go to new IPs. Assassin creed and call of duty are the bad standard of games which never ever releases.
The first game may have been rush, but it had all the charm of a superhero game to keep me coming bacck for more. The second game exppanded on that and polished it making it a more fully realized world. I'm sad that this series will likely never see the light of day again.
Dark souls changed my life. However Gravity rush is my most favorite game for simply being a really fun game. I would enjoy a sequel. However the greatest games never last forever.
but ass games like call of duty will I'm surprised some other shit anime game sold better than this masterpiece
That's how I felt about the Socom franchise. I used to love those games on the PS2 and PSP.
In the ps1 and early ps2 era, every action adventure game was like dark souls. It's funny how such an antiquated game design completely shits on modern games
As someone who played both in 2019, it’s a damn shame how the series was done dirty like that. I love these games so much and to see how they’ll likely never get a sequel or just the popularity it deserves is sad
Gravity Rush 2 was a pretty bad game that didn't improve upon the first one in any meaningful way. I'd say, it managed to actually made worse what worked in the previous title. Yeah sure, it's unique, has a great art style and music, but what good does it do if the game is damn boring to play? Mission design is one of the worst I've seen in my life. The enemies are uninteresting to fight and look at, without much variety to them. The story is underwhelming at best. The series was done dirty, not by Sony though, but by itself. Developers didn't learn anything from the critique of the first one, sentencing the sequel to death. And I liked GR1 in the Vita.
This game is a masterpiece. I wish it got the love it needed to succeed
What would be great to see is a gravity rush anime series.
@Sir Galahad its only 20 minutes though! A full anime series would be amazing

I loved almost everything about GR2. It just really gave me bad motion sickness x_x.
Imagine a VR version🤮🤮
I normaly suffer from motion sickness it's why I don't have a VR headset. I didn't suffer from GR1&2 for some reason loved every minute of it, other games that I did suffer from were Soma, outlast 2 and roundabout. I can't stand when a characters head moves all over the place and underwater stages.
It would be great.
Just take care of your motion. Don't let it get sick.
Oof..
i randomly launched this game today after 6 years of beating it. miss this game and such a shame we never got another
i have the digital Remaster, as well as loving the original Vita version, but #2 was a hot mess mission wise and gameplay. After numerous attempts, i finally gave up despite me loving the franchise in general. some many terrible gameplay decisions in the sequel. This series would murder on the switch
@@Hobo613Sony Interactive Entertainment have no reason to port their own IP they created to a rival platform
I hate the stealth missions, but anything else is awesome, i have both games and love them.
I wished the story towards the end was more clear. Now will probably never get a solid story resolution.
Thats why we need a 3rd one
I think in the end of the second game Kat was basically stuck in a black hole for a few years and almost everyone thought she was dead but she manages to escape in the very last scene in the game
If you haven't already, I'd go find all the graffiti with your camera. It gives some vague but still interesting context about the origins of the Gravity Rush world....But I still need a third installment like now.
@@inksplatter5559 yea, backstory is unclear, the only thing we know is that kat was a depressed queen
@@Senneih_cram It's honestly not. The point is the gods are all like, different alternatives to gods who could have created the universe so that there are like 5 creator gods, and there is a god who is going to destroy everything, if the creator gods get in the way of it, they fade away. The people at the top of the tower age differently than the people down below, time goes faster the further down you go, so the higher up you go, the longer you can live before the dark destruction god destroys it all. I've been iffy on buying a PS5, but if they announce Gravity Rush 3, I may be dead-set on it since I loved the first two games.
Katarina Amaxas But for now they just release valorant which is a PC only game and I heard it’s coming to console in mobile really soon probably has a PlayStation 5 launch title And it’s worth mentioning that this game is set in the gravity rush universe approximately 2000 years after the events of gravity rush to intolerant you play a a diverse cast of agents. Trying to plant the bomb for the attackers weld the fenders are trying to defuse the bomb to win You should get valorant give it try
@Sir Galahad no this is 2,000 years after gravity rush 2 basically it's like Apex legend is set in the Titanfall universe also worth noting that the language they speak let's say heksevile This language doesn't exist anymore 2000 years later we got Korean Spanish American French swedish Brazilian and Chinese also worth noting that one of the characters raze says this you can take the girl out of El Salvador but you'll never take the girl out of El Salvador of course she's referring to dr.brahman that happened 2,000 years ago after what happened in gravity Rush 2 episode 20 how to say goodbye kail became mutaded the large looking gears of war monster well this is part of an experiment that Dr.braham I don't remember that well but all I know is is that these experiments were used for red alert or high-stakes situation so what raze talking about is that that she found documents before she joined
@Sir Galahad also forgot to mention that jett is related to Raven Powers are similar except she moves fast like tracer from Overwatch and throws daggers

I used to speedrun Gravity Rush Remastered, and it was an amazing speedrun as well. Honestly one of the most underrated franchises ever.
I learned every piece of lore and I want more, this game is my childhood and I hope the third one will come,I am playing the second one while watching
I never call out from work just to play a game, but GR2 was the first game that I did that for. I was just so into the missions, the challenges & flying through the world collecting all the gems I could find. Fun times.
I got a vita and my mom convinced me to get this game because it was free download. I was 14 at the time and wasn’t interested by the cover. So my mom did it anyways and started playing it without me. A half hour later she dragged me out of my room and DEMANDED I play it because she was telling me all about how much fun she was having. So I did. And I fell in love harder. What a beautiful game. Both of them are my top ten game of all time list. It has such a style, Such a vibe.
Kat is the cutest video game character I’ve ever played as She’s is just the sunniest child. A well meaning dits who wants earnestly wants to help people. She gets so caught up in the world around her she forgot about her amnesia. Now THATS a subversion of expectations, Kat is so uninterested in uncovering her past both the games try’s to brut force its way into the story and she just gets distracted but something else. I love her.
Plus her name is a pun. Cats always land on their feet.
I think they shoulda advertised it more. I didn’t even know the game existed until a year ago and I really wanna play it

Sony Interactive Entertainment actually heavily marketed Gravity Rush during the Tokyo Game Show, Paris Games Week on top of a free dlc, two short animated films, a completely remastered Gravity Daze version, various partnerships to include Kat on other series, an entire new sequel, live trailers, several promotional videos yet the series was not supported by the fans themselves which is why it failed

Doing a trophy run of GR2 now. Absolutely adorable game, there are zero games like this in existence. Also, Knack 2 is fucking good aswell. Japan Studios are some of the same people that were involved in Demon's Souls, Bloodborne and SOTC. All terrific games.
You'll be disappointed to know that some trophies are impossible to obtain as some require online accomplishments, yet the server are dead.
Technically there are two which are [PROTOTYPE] and inFAMOUS
Japan Studio deserved better
It is sad seeing good studios dissolve and projects die out...
But even worse is this tendency industry giants have of ditching creative and fun ideas in favor of copy-paste jobs and pretty graphics
well made video my man , it deserves more than a "like" , still sad to see a good game forgotten like this
There are rumors that the devs of gravity rush is working on a new silent hill game. I think there is still a good chance for a sequel but we won't see gravity rush 3 anytime soon
Haven't seen the whole video so this may have been touched on, but it was said years ago that they would make it, but it'd have to wait for ps5.
Japan Studio definitely isn't underrated aha, they're responsible for demon souls, ico, the last guardian and the masterpiece Shadow of the colossus, Gravity Rush is a worthy name on the list.
A worthy name that nobody knows about
I don't think that it's really up for any serious debate as to whether or not Sony is at fault for the Vita and Gravity Rush not being far more successful than they both were, considering how they barely advertised them and dropped support very early.
That seems to be how Sony handles 90% of their games nowadays. If it's not from naughty dog, guerilla, or insomniac it basically gets treated like a red headed step child.
@@Johnnygrafx They are advertizing the hell out of Ghosts of Tsushima, a game from Sucker Punch, especially now since The Last of Us 2 backfired.

Just completed the second game right after the remaster, tonight ill start Ravens add-on. Tbis game didn stopped to amaze me! First with that wonderful, huge layered city, that gave us even more enjoyable feeling of freedom, rhen the Old city came back and I was again blown away by how well it looks, and when they merged later in the game into one huge map! I was speechless, some side quests at the begging were repetitive but NPC and specual features added to each one really made them enjoyable and they really gained the quality later in the game (where it usually works the opposite way) The end of fhe story was complete and closed Cat's chapter but I believe that this world still have many stories to tell. Wish they would make a new one.
One of my favorite game series ever!
Maybe it helps that i'm into space stuff (black holes etc) & have been fascinated by Gravity based things in general.. However, that doesn't take away from the fact that it is an amazing experience regardless with lovely characters & story.
Kat is one of my favorite protagonists of all time
I think 2B is better
this is like Disney's Treasure Planet. so underrated
My favorite game series! Gravity Rush 3 needs to happen since it ends on a cliff hanger, Sony pleeeeeeeeease!
Gravity Rush is such an underrated franchise that deserves more. The same way Sony revived Ratchet and Clank and Little Big Planet, they should revive Gravity Rush for a third game, even if it is with Raven as a protagonist, especially because it's the most unique PlayStation franchise to ever exist and it would be a sin to not want to keep making it.
Gravity Rush 2 will remain one of my favorite PS4 games, and certainly the most refreshing. I loved the VITA original, then I loved the remaster even more, and GR2 definitely stole my heart.
Amazing game with a really interesting world. The light horror themes was something I seriously didin't expect, more people need to play this and Sony needs to give it the respect it deserves,
Idk why but I really gravitate towards this franchise. You could say It really pulls you in.
Good one
I own Gravity Rush Remastered and Gravity Rush 2. I don't plan on selling them anytime soon or ever.
I really wish more people would have given this game a chance. In my opinion, it's so worth wandering around the world with this power, trying to find little details and secrets. The art and music is amazing as well! I've been listening to the soundtrack so many times because of how good it was. I've even replayed the games several times for fun and to see if I can find more things that I did not previously. This game takes place in a special part of my heart.
I bought these 2 games on a whim when it was on a huge sale in psn never regret it one bit and cant believe that this series is so overlook.
Hoping gr 3 is on the way on ps5
I resiously doubt it but I'd never be happier to be wrong
I'm only 2 minutes in. I had already done some research. The game developers said that they weren't going to do another gravity rush until the ps5 came out.
Gravity Rush 2 is one of the best video games of this generation, it is too good to "fly" on Jirga Para Lhao, a crazy graphic style and then there is the splendid Kat who is an exceptional protagonist. If GR3 is announced, the PS5 will be an obligatory purchase!
I love this game you can't imagine how much. I want so much all the outfits that there is in it, I want so much her outfit in white but unfortunately I had the game too late, I can not win anything anymore because sony to stop the partnership, I even play it after finishing it. if only there was a way to get the other outfits 😭😭
Its impossible for now, you cant get the dusty coin anymore

Gravity Rush is one of the most underrated franchises in Playstation history. I have the physical version of the PS4 remaster as soon as it was released for only $30 on Amazon, but now it's a collector's item due to its limited run. The sequel is also very good. It was overshadowed by other game releases at the time like RE 7, Nioh, Horizon Zero Dawn and the lack of marketing is made GR 2 have poor sales.
I have the opportunity to play gr2 and finished the story mode tonight, and I love this game, indeed underrated! To be honest I enjoyed playing it and found it more enjoyable than last of us part 2!

Gravity rush 2 was so much better than the 1 remastered only because gr1 wouldnt let you pick stuff up with gravity without you starting to float
Gravity Rush 2 is one of the best games I ever played honestly it's utterly fantastic.
Gravity Rush 1 was a lot of fun though had many problems mostly with a camera and some of the powers are a bit wonky in actual combat.
But the sheer fun of just flying around using their powers taking off to the skies made it so much fun that I really overlooked a lot of this.
The second game however was like I said incredible they fixed a lot of the bugs the story is really compelling though I will admit a bit confusing in some points, but never once did I have a dull moment playing it.
I'm the kind of player who doesn't really let complex narratives and confusing story bother him as long as I have fun, for example metal gear rising is one of my favorite games ever and it's absolutely batshit crazy, never once did I not have a blast even though it was absolutely lunacy.
Gravity Rush is a similar kind of love for me where I agree that the story is a little weird but it's so fun and enjoyable I don't really care.
Does the game have problems yes but in my opinion they are greatly overshadowed by the sheer Bliss of soaring through the skies with fun and lovable characters.
It's really sad that it's not getting the credit it really deserve since to be perfectly honest gravity Rush 2 could be considered one of the greatest games for early PS4 next to last of Us and such but do the poor marketing and so on it got swept under the rug and now the game suffers as a hidden gem that most people never even heard of.
I love showing this game to my friends and such and letting them play it and seeing them have a blast.
Gravity Rush is the only game I consider a masterpiece.
What about "Silent Hill" ?
One of the hidden gems of the Playstation. Incredibly fun with a decent story and a great soundtrack.
I'd be happy for this game to get another chance but it's good that it ended on a good note. Should they make Gravity Rush 3 though, I do hope they find a way to properly set a camera to follow the way Kat (or Raven) maneuvers around, especially in tight spices where it can get disorienting. Especially that part where you're basically all over the place when Kat first tries on her Jupiter style.

This is kind of how I feel with an Anime/Manga series I feel in love with recently.
