I have a 1999 ce 24 and it has the recessed tone and volume knobs, I feel like the older ones were closer to the core with the fully carved tops and the g&g hardshell case
@@jazzcat1056They definitely are the older ones have that solid core feel, American made bridge, one piece neck and the top locking tuners of its time. Only thing you did not get was binding and the bird inlays but mine was a limited run with the birds. New one are still a bargain but I agree with you the top violin carve is super sharp
Also pickup switch is bit different and split options are different, but CEs are really great value for money. Awesome guitars and some may prefer their split coil positions and satin maple neck more.
For 3000 $ you could get a fully decked Kiesel CT6. Does everything that the PRS does and has even superior specs like ss-frets, neck which is enhanced with dual carbon fiber rods like a Mayones and a proper trem system by Hipshot, not some cheapo SE bridge.
They should up the price $200 and give you a case. I went through hell getting an aftermarket case. Long story but problems with the case I got led to a return then problems with the delivery of the case replacement led to another headache. Too many phone calls and hassles for me to be completely happy with my CE purchase. I like the guitar but whoever made the decision at PRS to not include a case with a guitar that is over 3k with tax should be fired.
I love my ce24, got mine in aquamarine fire mist (basically a teal) but it doesn't have a figured top, it's just the solid wood, non gloss (which I love) Only thing, I had to file the hell out of the nut, because mine wouldn't stay in tune for crap. It does now though
@@ARProformancefor sure. I’m assuming you have an older S2 so the biggest difference is going to be electronics and maybe a bit of build quality. The CE comes w core 85/15 pickups whereas up until this year, S2’s come w SE pickups. Aside from that, it really boils down to preference: the CE has a thinner body, body carves more similar to a core but slightly less pronounced due to the thinner body, and a bolt on maple neck w a satin finish vs the mahogany set neck on your S2. The CE’s also tend to have nicer/more flamed tops. The CE is an experience very similar to a core in terms of build quality, but if you were to jump to a core, you’d get the thicker body (depends on your preference), amazing top w the classic PRS carves, a set mahogany neck like your S2 but it will be one piece and a gloss finish vs the satin on a CE, a newer tuner design (the CE tuners are the last generation Core tuners), and a US made a bridge, whereas the CE and S2 have SE bridges. Worth noting too that as of 2024, S2’s now come w US 85/15 pickups too. So, these days the differences are much less pronounced between the 3 lines. In short, the CE24 is like a core but w a bolt on satin maple neck, thinner body, an SE bridge and the last generation of core tuners. The core24 has a thicker body, set mahogany neck, newest design of PRS tuners, and a US bridge. The S2 24 is a “stripped down” version of the Core24 w a different top carve (the hard edges vs the smooth carves), usually not quite as nice tops (but still nice), multi piece bodies/necks, and an SE bridge. I’d say the CE and core are comparable in build quality and “pretty tops”, and it just boils down to preference in terms of those specs, and the S2 is like a slightly less meticulous Core. Rambled but I hope that helps! You really can’t go wrong with any US built PRS offering.
The thing is satin finish and bolt on necks are not necessarily downgraded.
I personally prefer both
CE’s are a bargain. Great guitars. Upgrade the bridge to a Mann Made and you’ve got a top end guitar.

That's what I love about my older CE22 (pre 2007), no downgrades as seen on the current production...
Price increases and downgrades suck. PRS used is probably the way to go.
