The Basketball coach that inspires a kid to go to college isn't a hero.
A Step parent who comes in and deals with all the baggage and loves a child as if they weren't their own isn't a hero.
Heroes are people who make a difference whether it's to one person or a million. In the beginning of this quarantine, these thru hikers inspired me to get moving more and to do what it took to take my own adventure. consequently, I was 523 In January... I started with diet but once we started Quarantine in Mid MArch I started walking every day. My first walk I went a quarter of a mile. It's 3 months later and now I'm 418 and walking 3 miles a day, 5 days of the week and i get a mile and a half walk in on the off days. Awe! I’ve watched all three of your Triple Crown thru-hikes, in order, and when you touched the northern terminus of the CDT, in Canada,I started crying with you. I lived vicariously through you, the whole time, sometimes cheering you on, sometimes arguing with the trail, animals, and weather conditions, but I was along with ya, the entire ride. Thank you.
I’ve thought about hiking the AT for a few years, and I’ve decided to start thru-hiking because of you. I’ve finally gotten to a place in my life where I like myself and have no more regrets about life, so I’m psychologically ready to accept, and take responsibility for, anything that happens on the trail. Thank you, you’ve given me the courage to do it. ❤

Dixie I don't think you realize how much danger you were in with the mountain lion encounter. Did you know that they can leap 45 feet? That is with a running start. If no running start a good 20-30 feet. Also....the bears....they are SO FAST. I lived in the mountains and a black bear was near my chicken coop with her cubs climbing on the coop. I was 3 feet from my door and scared it with a very loud noise and it ran in the opposite direction and ran right through a wire fence. If it would have ran in my direction I wouldn't have even made it in the door. Seriously. They are FAST animals. The bear hit the fence which was a farther direction than the distance from me to my door!!!!

I forgot to mention in my other comment about the static electricity. I grew up on the coast of South Carolina and I have done a lot of fishing along the South Carolina coast as well as off of the coast of Florida. It is in fact a very spooky and eerie feeling when you were out on the water and a thunderstorm is approaching and not only have I been in situations where the hair on my arms and my head floated into the air but we have been on the Gulf of Mexico before with a storm approaching and it literally lifted our fishing lines out of the water. That’s when you know it’s time to get the hell out of Dodge. It is an uncomfortable feeling being on a boat or a golf course or out in the middle of a big field when a storm comes up suddenly. You do not want to be the highest object on a very open flat surface so I can imagine on some of those trails when there aren’t any trees or any cover how uncomfortable and nervous it can get when a big storm comes up.
